The Baltimore, Md., native has 162 career blocks and is in the No. 6 spot on that chart. Dorsey needs 16 blocks to move into a tie for the No. 5 spot with Dennis Isbell. The game began as many Memphis-UAB contests have fast and furious and close in the opening minutes. The Blazers took the early advantage and held the upper hand the first eight minutes. Mukubu (six points) and Maurice Gibbs (five) led the UAB charge to a lead. The Tigers stayed close in the early going and then tied the contest at 17-all on a Doneal Mack trey at the 11:44 mark. From that point, Memphis went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good at with 6:08 remaining. Well, all the coach s talk may have gotten through to the Baltimore, Md., native. The 6-foot-9 forward leads Conference USA in rebounding with a 10.2 average in all games and an 11.8 average in league games only. His rise to the top rebounding position in C-USA is a result of his double-digit board performances the last two months. From Dec. 2-20, Dorsey had six-straight double figure rebounding games. He averaged 11.7 boards in those contests. Well, after two December games in which he had seven rebounds, Dorsey was on another streak of seven-consecutive contests with double digits on the glass. In that streak (Jan. 4-27), he averaged 12.1 boards per game. This latest streak came to an end when he had nine rebounds in the Tigers win over UCF Jan. 31. The 6-foot-9 sophomore forward and the Tigers are looking to carry that trend to So far, so good, with Dorsey grabbing double-digit rebounds in 14 games this year. It was the Tigers fourth double-double performance of In the Jan. 20 win over East Carolina, Robert Dozier recorded Memphis fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 boards. The doubledouble was the fifth of Dozier s career. Dorsey (13th career) made it six double-doubles for Memphis in with 13 points and 11 rebounds versus Tulsa Jan. 24. Earlier this year, Dorsey also had double-doubles against Jackson State (11 points, 13 rebounds) and Manhattan (10 points, 12 rebounds). Not only was Memphis a perfect 6-0 in that stretch, but it was also hot from the field. In those six games, the Tigers shot 51.8 percent from the floor. Prior to their incredibly hot shooting in the last two wins over UCF Jan. 31 and SMu Feb. 3, the Tigers had lost the shooting touch that they enjoyed in that six-game span. In the three contests from Jan , Memphis shot a combined 36.5 percent from the floor. The Tigers bounced back in a big way in their last two outings versus UCF (57.9 percent) and SMU (60.7 percent). The following is a breakdown of the Tigers shooting this season: Games of-715 Games of-336 Games of-170 Games of-113 TIGERS LOSING RECENT BOARD BATTLES Similar to their shooting performances, the Tigers were rolling on the boards in the seven games from Dec. 23-Jan. 20. In those seven contests, Memphis out-rebounded its opponents by a margin of boards per game. Included in that stretch were two games in which the Tigers won the battle of the boards by 19 rebounds and one by 20 boards. Part of the success for Memphis came from its tenacity on the offensive boards. In those seven games, the Tigers averaged 14.3 offensive rebounds per game. But, in Memphis two outings against Tulsa Jan. 24 and Southern Miss Jan. 27, the opposition got the better of the Tigers on the glass. Those two opponents out-rebounded Memphis by an average of +5.5 boards per game. In both contests, the Tigers were also out-worked on the offensive boards (19-17 Tulsa; Southern Miss). In its last two wins over UCF Jan. 31 and SMU Feb. 3, Memphis regained the advantage on the glass. The Tigers out-rebounded UCF and SMU BENCH COMING UP BIG FOR TIGERS The last two seasons ( , ), John Calipari has been using a deep bench to wear down opponents, and in turn, keep his players fresh to finish games. It worked last season, and it seems to be doing the same in In fact, this year s bench is producing more offense than last season. The Tiger bench is accounting for 38.9 percent of the offense (685 of 1762 points), while last year s bench pitched in with 28.5 percent of the offense (844 of 2961 points). Furthermore, at least one reserve has scored in double figures in 19 of the Tigers 22 games this year (Hunt, 17 times; Mack, five times; Cooper, three times; Allen, two times). The Tigers are 17-2 when the bench scores 20 or more points this year. TIGER SUCCESS AT FEDEXFORUM After a rough first year at their new home in , the Tigers have bounced back quite nicely and have made FedExForum one of the toughest arenas for opponents to play in. Since the 2005 Conference USA Tournament, Memphis has won 38 of its last 40 home games (.950 winning percentage). Overall, the Tigers have a 48-8 record (.857 winning percentage) at FedExForum. Memphis is 13-0 at home this year. TIGERS STREAKING AT HOME Don t look now, but the Tigers are putting together another homecourt winning streak.
