All Junior High shooters need to register with 4H at and complete the necessary registration and release forms. To receive reminders, Kent Richard will set each shooter and family up. 2 THERE IS ZERO TOLERANCE FOR GUNS OR AMMUNITION AT OR NEAR ANY SCHOOL OR SCHOOL PROPERTY. Leave any guns and ammunition at home and pick them up after school on your way to practice. All participating members of the Pius X Trap Team and ECTC are required to successfully complete a Firearm Safety Training Course recognized by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission. For more information, go to Hunter Education numbers must be provided to the Conference BEFORE participating in any conference sanctioned shoots. PIUS X TRAP TEAM RULES As students of Pius and as a member of the Pius X Trap Team, you are expected to conduct yourself in a responsible manner both on and off the line. Any disruptive or disrespectful behavior at practice or at a meet will result in either suspension or immediate dismissal from the team. Any disruptive activity, as determined by the shoot director or trap team coaches will result in expulsion from that meet for all individuals involved and those individuals score will go to zero for that meet. Parents will be informed of all action. Members may not consume alcoholic beverages, use illegal drugs or smoke or chew tobacco (including but not limited to any cigarette-like devices, tobacco product that is not lit, vaping devices or any device used to inhale a substance such as aerosol or aromatherapy oils) at any time while representing the Pius X Trap Team. This includes before or during live firing or while on the premises for meetings, practices, or meets/events. Anyone in violation of this rule will be subject to removal from the team immediately. (Refer to the Pius X High School Student/Parent Handbook for additional school rules.) Eye and ear protection are required to be worn by shooters while shooting. Any shooter observed not wearing eye and/or ear protection will be informed to get this protection or be removed from competition until eye and/or ear protection is secured. This would include those scoring and pulling as well as anyone else inside the fenced area. The use of toe tabs for resting of muzzles is NOT permitted by the ECTC. Participants shall NOT rest muzzles on the top of their foot or any other part of their body. Possession of any unapproved firearm or item that can release a projectile object (i.e. sling shot, paint ball gun, air pistol, BB gun, etc.) at practice or a meet/event will result in an immediate dismissal from the team. Shooters will not be allowed to leave a meet/event prior to its conclusion unless approved by a coach. It is important that shooters be present at the end of meets for potential shoot offs and to receive their awards.

3 Pius X Trap Team Ranges Rules Violation of range rules could result in suspension or dismissal from the team. 1. Only shotguns used for trap shooting will be allowed on the ranges. All guns will be unloaded, checked for safety and the actions open when brought on to the property. 2. All guns will be stored in cases or on the gun racks provided when not in use, not in the clubhouse. 3. Gun muzzles will be pointed in a safe direction at ALL times. When transporting firearms to and from the line, muzzles shall point in a safe direction at the ground. 4. Guns will NOT be loaded until the shooter is on the firing line and all other shooters are in the ready position. 5. Fingers must be off the trigger and outside the trigger guard, until the gun is mounted to the shoulder and ready to fire. 6. The action of the shotgun must be open and the firearm unloaded until ready to use. On the trap range, this means that the shooter is on the line and it is their turn to fire. 7. It is the shooter's responsibility to clear any gun malfunctions. If the event of a misfire, the shooter will keep the gun pointed in a safe direction and not open the action of a minimum of 10 seconds. This will allow time for a "slow burn" shell to ignite. This will ensure the safety of all people in the area. If the shooter cannot clear the weapon, he/she will keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction while raising a hand and request assistance from the Range Officer(s). 8. Shooters can never load their gun prior to changing positions. When shooters are rotating from Post 5 to Post 1, they must turn to the right to avoid bumping guns with the shooter coming from Post 4. When moving from Post 5 to Post 1, shooters must always walk behind the other shooters with their action open and the muzzle pointed at the ground. 9. Shells will be loaded one at a time and just prior to the shooter calling for a target. 10. Shoulder carry with the muzzle pointing behind is not allowed at any time on the line or in adjacent areas of the shooting facility. 11. Eye and ear protection are required for ALL people inside of the fence separating the shooting area from the viewing area. 12. All spectators and non-participants will remain behind the fence separating the shooting area from viewing area. 13. When a cease fire command is given, all shooters will immediately stop shooting, unload their weapons, leave the actions open and keep the gun muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 14. No one will go forward of the firing line unless authorized by the Range Officer (s). 15. Any safety violation or Range Rule infraction will result in the shooter being removed from the firing line and possibly result in not being allowed to participate in further shooting. 16. All shooters will assist in cleaning up the range area. This includes: shell casings, shell boxes, target boxes and other refuse found on the range. 17. All shooters will assist in restocking trap houses before and after shooting sessions. 18. Shooting anything other than approved targets is prohibited. 19. Horseplay, distracting other shooters, or any form of disruptive behavior will result in immediate removal from the firing line or range and could result in dismissal from the team. 20. Only shot shells designed for target shooting with shot size no larger than #7 l/2 will be used. 21. Any firearm or ammunition brought onto the property will be available for inspection by the Range Officer. These rules are provided to ensure the safety of all people involved with your trap team. Please follow all rules and keep in mind, you are a guest at this range. Practice with a purpose and have fun.

4 WHAT TO BRING TO EVERY PRACTICE AND MEETS Shotgun (12 gauge shotguns are preferred, but junior high may shoot 20 gauge shotguns. Pump or break action shotguns with 26 barrel length or longer unless youth models. All semi-automatic shotguns need to have a shell catcher or rubber band. The bottom line is no shells on the ground. No side-by-side double barrel or hammer cock shotguns.) Shooting vest or shell bag 2 boxes (minimum) of shells (12 gauge shotgun shell needs to be 2 ¾ shells, trap or target loads only. The recommended load allowed is 1-1/8 ounce of #7-1/2 or #8 shot, 1200 fps (handicaps). For 16 yard events, use #8, light trap 1145 fps. It is recommended that junior high shooters use light trtap loads (1 ounce), 1180 fps or the 1145fps 1-1/8 ounce loads. This will result in less recoil. If you reload your own shells, please talk to a coach.) Eye protection Ear protection Weather appropriate attire Caps and shooting gloves are recommended but not required. Shooters are not allowed to listen/play music when on the line and shooting. Gun fit is one of the most important issues that coaches will be working with shooters on and probably the most difficult. For those shooters that want to attain the highest level of performance, it will require the purchase of a quality trap shotgun. For beginners, a good operating field shotgun works. Parents are encouraged to talk to coaches prior to purchasing a shotgun. A trap shotgun, if maintained, will retain its value and is easy to sale. Lastly, maintenance of the shotgun is a must. If you have any questions on how to clean your shotgun, please talk with one of our coaches. TRAPSHOOTING ETIQUETTE AND RULES Shooters must be ready to shoot when their squad is called, and when it s their turn to shoot in the squad. The shooter assigned to Post 1 shall be considered the squad leader and shall visually and verbally ensure all shooters and scorers are ready prior to commencing shooting and the beginning of shooting as well as after each position rotation. The squad leader has the right to request a target be thrown prior to commencement of shooting. Gun cannot be shouldered at this time, nor any target tracked while in the air unless you are the one shooting at the target. All shooters are required to have either a shell pouch or shooting vest for empty shells. All empty shells go into the trash after your round if you don t want to keep them. Do not allow shells to be ejected from your gun onto the ground or to hit and annoy other shooters. Team members shooting semiautomatics must use a shell catcher. Shooters must not raise their gun until the shooter ahead of them has fired. All members of a quad shall remain on their post, standing facing the trap quietly, until the fifth person has fired their fifth shot, prior to moving to the next post. At the end of the round, shooters must remain still on their post facing in trap until the last person has fired the last shot. All shooters should not unnecessarily talk on the line; voices should be kept down wheil you are around other squads who are shooting. Shooters should time their shooting to establish a rhythm within the squad. Targets should be called for in a clear voice; do not call in such a loud voice so as to trip the voice release on the adjacent fields. Likewise, do not call with such a quiet so that the release does not trip. If you encounter a gun or ammo malfunction on the line, stop and raise your hand for a coach or range personnel to help you. Keep muzzle pointed down range at all times until help arrives. Be a sportsman at all times. If you are shooting well, others will be aware of it. You don t need to brag unnecessarily. Likewise, if you are having a bad day, accept it without complaint or displays of anger.

5 Place your shooting bag on the ground while shooting or waiting to shoot. Benches are for people. Observe all safety rules. Ear and eye protection are mandatory. Do not point your gun at another person, even if you think it s unloaded. Always keep your gun pointed toward the ground or trap house. Off the firing line, keep your action open at all times. PRACTICES Safety will be number one for every shooter. During most practices, we will be focusing on each individual shooter s fundamentals, technique, and gun safety. We plan on helping each shooter by providing informative training sessions, one-on-one instruction, simulation drills, as well as live practices. We will try to help you sharpen your skills and keep your mind focused on what it will take to become a successful trap shooter. Your coaches are there to make suggestions to help your shooting ability. Please respect what they are trying to pass on to you and use that information to benefit from it. Once at practice you are a member of our team, which means we all help out. At no time should you assume that you can show up, shoot at 50 or 100 targets, and then go home. We will all do our part by loading trap houses, pulling, scoring and picking up boxes and empty shells. We practice to improve. You need to come to practice with a good attitude, keep that attitude and learn from your mistakes or successes. February 2 will be our first meeting and practice for all junior and senior shooters. We will give the season s schedule and overview general club activities. It is mandatory that parents attend this meeting to understand what is planned for the season and what is expected of everyone. All shooters must 1) have submitted a completed registration and consent form, 2) paid the registration fee for Junior High $50, Senior High $75, with the maximum of $100 per family (A minimum deposit of at least $50 per shooter s account is required), and 3) have at least one parent attend a parent meeting, prior to being allowed to shoot at practices. All practices are held at the Lincoln Izaak Walton on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 6:30 p.m. Until the meets begin, we will also have practices on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 3:30 p.m. Be prepared to help load the trap houses as needed. Starting March 12 th and every Tuesday thereafter, there will be a team meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the results of the previous meet, upcoming meet including squads, shoot times and other items as needed. Please check the website ( ) for changes in the practice schedule due to time conflicts or weather. Shooters are encouraged to shoot multiple practice rounds rather than coming out and shooting just one round. They are always encouraged to ask questions or request additional help. No shooting will take place until a coach is present. We NEED lots of parents/adult volunteers and we will train you! Parents are encouraged to attend the Tuesday meetings and are absolutely needed to help at the practices. We cannot practice without your help and we will show you how to score. All practice squadding will be completed in the clubhouse office and no back-to-back squadding unless there are limited numbers of shooters practicing. We will be recording the shooter s practice and meet scores which will be used in determining squadding position of shooters. Do not contact Pius X High School concerning practices or meets as they will not be able to help.

6 REGULAR SEASON MEETS (Lincoln Ikes, Lincoln Trap & Skeet, & Ashland) We will have six regular meets plus a combined conference shoot the weekend prior to the Cornhusker Invitational at Doniphan, Nebraska. Each of these are held on Saturdays. Arrive AT LEAST one hour prior to your squads scheduled shoot time. The squadding for all shooters at these meets will be released at practice on Thursday. Check in with the coaches as soon as you arrive. Look for the Pius X flag/tent. Pay close attention to when your squad is on deck and at that time, get your gun and everything you need to shoot ready to go. This includes eye and ear protection and 3 boxes of shells for juniors and 6 boxes for seniors (includes extras for possible shoot-offs), and always have 2 extra shells with you in case of a dud or a shot at a broken target. Seniors will shoot 100 targets and juniors will shoot 50 targets. As soon as you are finished with your first box, get your second box ready. You will shoot the second box immediately following the first. When you are finished with your second box, you will be done for the time being. You may not leave the meet until you have permission from the coaches. In the event of a tie, a shoot off may be required. If you leave and are not there for a shoot off, the entire squad forfeits the opportunity for an award. Awards are not presented until mid to late afternoon at best. The meets can be very long days. It is recommended that families bring a book, or a laptop for down time. The Lincoln Izaak Walton is our home base. When shoots are hosted here, all Pius X trap shooters will be asked to help load the trap houses and such. Be ready to work! MEET SIGN-UPS MANDATORY All shooters will be required to complete an online signup the trap meets they will be attending. Prior to any shooter practicing, one of their parents/guardians is required to attend a parent meeting. A shooter will not be allowed to practice or participate in a meet if there is a negative balance in their account. The 2019 Meets Shooter Attendance form needs to be filled out and submitted indicating which meets that a shooter will attend. This can be obtained from our team website ( ) Squads will be posted on our website and not sent by . Check squads the night before each meet to note any changes. It is up to the shooter or their parents to inform coaches if there is a change in plans by Tuesday prior to the trap meet. Otherwise the shooter will be squadded for that meet and charged. Failure to show up for a meet at which they are squadded causes their team to not be able to complete for team awards. In case of an emergency or illness, please call Craig prior to the meet and the shooter will be removed from the squad and not charged. Those shooters not squadded by Thursday s practice, but still want to shoot at the meet, will be squadded as an individual the day of the meet. LUNCHES AT MEETS When the meets are hosted at the Lincoln Izaak Walton, our team hosts the kitchen operations which serves breakfast, lunch and snacks. We must have parents help with this operation. Proceeds from this activity assist in paying for some of the expenses at the State shoot along with club awards. Lisa Borzekofski will coordinate when we host the kitchen at the two Izaak Walton meets. She will be contacting parents for help. At the Lincoln Trap & Skeet and Ashland meets, Chris Noecker has kindly agreed organize food for our team and families. Families will be asked to bring food or drink items to share in the meals and make for a great time together!

7 GAYLE HANSHAW ALL CONFERENCE SHOOT Lincoln Trap & Skeet and Lincoln Izaak Walton This event differs from the previous shoots, in that you will not be shooting in a squad consisting only of your Pius X teammates. You will be placed in a squad based on your individual season average. Awards are given for high individual scores, per class, at this shoot. In the week before this shoot at the team meeting, an announcement will be made of the shooters that made the All Central and All Conference teams for this season. This will be based on each individual shooter s season average, with the lowest score of the season being dropped. We will also share at that time which squad you will be shooting with, what trap you will be shooting on, and what time. The Senior High All Conference Shoot will be held at the Lincoln Trap & Skeet and the Junior High All Conference Shoot will be held at the Lincoln Izaak Walton. CORNHUSKER NATIONAL INVITATIONAL Central Nebraska Gun Club, Doniphan This is the last meet of the season. The one everyone has been working so hard for all season! The week before this shoot, the squadding will be prepared. Tuesday at practice, you will shoot 4 boxes with your state squad. There will be no practice on Thursday as the coaches and junior high will be shooting then. Juniors will shoot yard targets in a row, at one trap on Thursday. After all squads are finished, it will be determined if any shoot offs are required. Once those are completed, awards will be presented. *Juniors and their families may want to consider spending Wednesday night in Grand Island or Hastings. See the end of this packet for more information. On Friday, the seniors will shoot yard targets in a row, at one trap. On Saturday, the seniors will shoot 75 handicap targets. *Seniors and their families may want to go spend Thursday and Friday night in Grand Island or Hastings. See the end of this packet for more information. Please arrive at least 2 hours before you are scheduled to shoot so you can get checked-in and if you d like, you can shoot 2 rounds (of 10) of practice targets if applicable. It is preferred that you shoot your practice rounds with your squad. Tickets are purchased at the clubhouse at a cost of $15 for 10 practice rounds. One of these $15 tickets will get your squad the 2 rounds of practice. Round up your squad and purchase one ticket instead of purchasing individually; it is much cheaper and simpler this way. We will not have any team meals available at camp. Consider bringing chairs, blankets, sunscreen, etc. to make the day more enjoyable. There will be several food, gun and accessory venders at this meet. You will have the opportunity to purchase state trap apparel, reloading supplies, guns, hunting and trap items, coats, caps, etc. Ducks Unlimited usually hosts some type of raffle as well as opportunities to win, but you have to sign up BEFORE you shoot. Please make sure to call the school and let them know your son or daughter will not be in school the day(s) that they will be shooting and make sure your child(ren) have completed the necessary sign-out sheets. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. This will be an excused absence since it is a school sponsored sporting event. We have reserved a block of hotel rooms in Grand Island this year. More details will be provided later. It will be up to the parents to contact the hotel to reserve a room in their name and pay the entire bill. PIUS X TRAP TEAM AWARDS BANQUET We will host our end of season banquet on Saturday, May 11 th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. A meal will be prepared and families will be asked to bring sides or desserts to share with all. Following the meal, awards will be presented and pictures taken. Shooting games to follow.

8 REQUIREMENTS TO LETTER AND PARTICIPATE IN MEETS: These criteria are based on a minimum of five conference trap meets plus the Cornhusker Invitational State Trap Shoot % average for the season. Participation in a minimum of five conference meets and the Cornhusker Invitational State Trap Shoot is required. The average is calculated using the sum of the best five conference scores and the Cornhusker Invitational score % average at the Cornhusker Invitational State Trap Shoot. Participated in a minimum of five conference meets and the Cornhusker Invitational State Trap Shoot is required. The shooter must have an 85% average at the Conference Invitational State Trap Shoot based on the total targets in the program. Example (128 out of 150) 3. Any Senior who has never lettered but who has participated four years with the Pius X Trap Club and participated in 5 of 6 conference meets and the Cornhusker Invitational State Trap Shoot all 4 years. Score is not a determining factor. Note: Junior High shooters are not eligible to letter. PARENT INVOLVEMENT In order to make our club and the shooters successful, parent involvement is essential. Each family will be expected to help out in some way. Parents are needed to assist in running practice and in supervising the team at conference meets. We especially need parents to help pull and score at practices. This will enable the coaches more time in coaching and assisting each shooter. Contact a coach if you have questions on how you can best help or contribute. FEES Students are responsible for all fees and costs associated with practice and competition in ECTC meets. The Pius X Trap Club will pay the entry fee at the Cornhusker Invitational. The funds are payable to Pius X Trap Club will be placed in your personal account for the season. Your account will be debited according to how many targets you shoot and how many shoots you attend. Practice fees will be $3.50 per 25 targets. Competition fees at meets will be $11.00 for juniors and $22.00 for senior high. Ammunition is an additional expense. ($5.50 to $7.00 per box) **We should be getting a shipment of shotgun shells from Guns Unlimited in February, and it is highly recommended that you get your season supply then. Payments for this will be made to Guns Unlimited. Shooter account payments are accepted by check or cash and can be paid at any of the practices. See Patty Richard for account balances and any payment questions. It is important that each shooter keep sufficient money in their account to cover their expenses. If a shooter s account has a negative balance, they will not be allowed to practice. At the end of the season, if shooters have a credit in their account, they will either be reimbursed or it will be carried over to the next season. As you can see this is not an inexpensive activity. The bulk of a shooter s expense is practicing; thus, it is important that shooters utilize practice time in the most productive manner as possible.

11 Pius X Trap Club Release and Consent Form (Participant s Name) has our permission to participate in the Pius X Trap Club practice and competition activities. In addition, those activities required to move cases of targets to the trap houses, load the individual trap machines, and grounds keeping duties. I approve of the leaders who will be in charge of this program. Realizing that the leaders are serving to the best of their ability and in consideration of the benefits to be derived by the participant concerned, I hereby voluntarily waive any claim against the Pius X Trap Club, Pius X High School, the Lincoln Izaak Walton League, their agents, leaders, employees, administrators, members, and other officers, from all claims, demands, actions, judgments, and executions which the undersigned or their child (Name) ever had, or now has, or may have, or which the undersigned s heirs, executors, administrator, personal representatives, or assigns may have, or claim to have, against the Pius X Trap Club, Pius X High School, the Lincoln Izaak Walton League or any of them or their successors or assigns for all injuries, personal or otherwise, known or unknown and injuries to property, real or personal, caused by or arising out of the above described activities. I understand that trap shooting can be a dangerous activity and I am knowingly granting my son/daughter permission to participate in and be a member of the Pius X Trap Club. I understand that at NO time can a firearm or any shooting related items be brought onto school property for any reason. I certify that the participant has full medical insurance. I also certify to the best of my knowledge that the participant named herein is physically and mentally fit to engage in the activities described above. I understand that should the above-named child require medical attention for any reason while participating in the above-described activities, any doctor, emergency personnel, or hospital selected has the authority to provide any treatment deemed necessary. I understand that my son/daughter's grades from the previous two semesters will be accessed and released to the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference for consideration of its Academic Excellence Award. They have reserved ten-minute time slots for our Pius team between 1:00-2:00 p.m. The DAY OF THE EVENT PRICING is $40 plus tax ($42.20 with tax). Includes your carrying case, guarantee and free clear coating 1 time during the life of the plugs.
