The Greyhounds will play Mount St. Mary s University in a game that will start at 7:30 p.m. in Reitz Arena. On The Tube Saturday s game will be broadcast live on MASN, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. Johnny Holiday will call the play-by-play action, while Craig Esherick will provide the color analysis. Series History Loyola and Mount St. Mary s will meet for the 168th time in series history when the teams take the floor Saturday. The rivalry dates to January 20, 1910, the second season of basketball at Loyola. The Greyhounds won the initial meeting between the teams, 35-24, but The Mount holds a advantage all-time. In addition to being the oldest series in state history it predates Loyola-Maryland by two seasons it is also the most-played. The 166 meetings exceed the 150 between Johns Hopkins and McDaniel (formerly Western Maryland), a series that started in Last year in Emmitsburg, Shane Walker and Robert Olson combined to score 28 of their 39 points in the second half, as the Greyhounds defeated Mount St. Mary s, 65-54, in a game that was also broadcast on MASN. Walker finished with 20 points, and Olson had 19, while Dylon Cormier added 15. Anthony Winbush led Loyola with eight rebounds. Last Time Out Saint Peter s scored the first 13, and 16 of the first 18, points of the second half, erasing a Loyola halftime lead, but the Greyhounds used a 12-0 run that immediately followed that to regain the advantage and defeat the Peacocks, 61-55, last Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference from the IZOD Center at the Meadowlands Complex. He coached Loyola to its first Division I 20-win season in He is a 1989 graduate of The Catholic University of America where he played for the late Jack Bruen, who later took Colgate to back-to-back NCAA appearances. He spent 13 seasons as an assistant to Gary Williams at the University of Maryland prior to being hired for the top job at Loyola. Patsos recorded the 100th win of his head coaching career on November 17, 2011, becoming the third coach (Lefty Reitz and Nap Doherty) in school history to win 100. Patsos was named The Rock/MAAC Coach of the Year following the regular-season by a vote of his conference peers. He was a member of the staff of 10 NCAA Tournament teams and the 2002 NCAA Championship Team at Maryland.

MAAC After Two Just two games into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule, only one team remains unbeaten in league play (Canisius College), and only one team is winless (Siena College). The remaining eight teams are all 1-1. Mid-Major Top 25 Loyola is ranked for the third week in a row in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. The Greyhounds check in at No. 23 in this week s edition after spending two weeks at No. 21. The Greyhounds are one spot behind the Albany, a team they beat on November 18, and they are five slots ahead of Florida Gulf Coast, a side that defeated Loyola on December 1. Best Start Through Eleven Loyola s victory on December 8 over Saint Peter s raised its record to 8-3 through 11 games this season, matching the best start in school history through that number of games. Last year s team, and Jimmy Patsos second squad ( ) also went 8-3 through 11. Last Five Without Etherly Since losing Preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year Erik Etherly to a shoulder injury on November 25, the Greyhounds have gone 3-2 in five games. Etherly was averaging 15.7 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game in the first six games of the season before the setback. He was also leading the team in blocks (10) and tied for the lead in steals (10). The Greyhounds have averaged 7.5 points per game fewer ( ) in the last five games, but they have allowed four fewer points ( ) in the same span. Loyola has averaged more rebounds ( ) since Etherly s injury, but the team s field-goal percentage has slipped form.440 to.380 in the respective stretches. During Etherly s absence, Anthony Winbush has raised his scoring average from 6.7 points to 9.2 points, and the graduate student is leading the team in rebounds (7.2 per game in the last five) during the span. Jordan Latham has led the team with 2.4 blocked shots per game in the last five, while Franz Rassman has seen his minutes go from 6.2 to 15.0, and his points per game from 1.3 to 6.6. Making Good On Starting Opportunity Franz Rassman made the most of his first collegiate start last Saturday at the IZOD Center against Saint Peter s, recording career-highs of 25 minutes and 13 points, going 6-of-8 from the floor. Rassman made all three of his second-half shots, including his first 3-pointer as a Greyhound, and tallied seven points after the break in 14 minutes of action. Over the last five games, Rassman has averaged 6.6 points and 15.0 minutes per game. He is shooting a team-best.690 (14-of-23) during that stretch. Against Niagara on December 5, Rassman played a big role in the Greyhounds nearcomeback late in the game. He finished with eight points and four rebounds, three offensive. He also blocked a shot and had a steal. Winbush Goes The Distance (Almost) Anthony Winbush played all but 21 seconds of last Saturday s win over Saint Peter s, logging a career-high in minutes played (he was credited with 40). He finished one off his career-high in points, as he led the Greyhounds with 16 on 5-of-8 from the floor. He made both of his 3-point attempts and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. The graduate student also tied Julius Brooks for game-high honors with eight rebounds, seven coming on the defensive glass. Since missing the first three games of the season, Winbush is fourth on the team in

Williams 0 29 Anthony Winbush 6 51 Big Performance By Brooks Julius Brooks was another Loyola player to log a career-high in minutes last Saturday against Saint Peter s. The senior forward came off the bench to play 30 minutes, and he tied Anthony Winbush for game-high honors with eight rebounds. Brooks also made 3-of-5 shots from the field and finished with seven points, and he matched his career-best with four blocked shots. During the game, he moved into 13th all-time at Loyola in blocked shots with 46. Cormier To The Charity Stripe On a day when his shots were not falling in volume (3-of-10), Dylon Cormier found another way to score against Saint Peter s, getting to the free-throw line 13 times and making nine. He finished with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists against the Peacocks. Cormier leads the team with 83 free throws attempted and 63 made this season. He has gone to the line 10 or more times on three occasions (at Washington, at Coppin State and versus Saint Peter s), and he has attempted seven or more from the line in four more games. With his nine makes against the Peacocks, Cormier moved into the top-25 all-time at Loyola in free-throws made. In less than 2.5 years with the Greyhounds, he has made 224, good for 25th place, one behind teammate Erik Etherly for 24th. Etherly s 331 free-throw attempts are 22nd all-time at Loyola, and Cormier s 326 are tied for 24th with Mark Rhode ( ). Finding A Way To Contribute While he only scored eight points, off his season average of more than 11, Robert Olson contributed a game-high five assists last Saturday versus Saint Peter s, one of his career-best of six. Olson is second on the team this season with 23 assists, and he now has 182 assists in his career at Loyola, good for 20th all-time at the school. On The Defensive Through 11 games, Loyola is tops in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 59.4 points per game. The Greyhounds have held more than half their opponents (6-of-11) this year to fewer than 60 points. Loyola is also tops in the league in field-goal percentage defense, limiting the opposition to 39.4-percent from the field. The Greyhounds are also tops in the MAAC in blocked shots (5.7 per game) and third in steals (7.5). Jordan Latham is second in the MAAC with 1.8 blocked shots per game, and Dylon Cormier is fourth in steals with 1.8 per contest. Comeback Falls Just Short Loyola trailed by 10 with 4:13 to play on December 5, the first time Niagara had stretched its lead to double digits, but the Greyhounds chipped away to tie the score at with 1:41 to play. During the 12-2 run, Loyola held the Purple Eagles without a field goal and went 2-of- 3 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. After the Greyhounds tied the game, they forced three Niagara turnovers and allowed the Purple Eagles to get off just one shot, but Juan ya Green converted on the runner that would push Niagara in front for good with 56 seconds left. Latham Breaks Out Jordan Latham took little time last Saturday night to set a career-high in scoring, tallying his 10th point of the game with 9:30 to play in the first half against Florida Gulf Coast. He finished with a game-high 17 points to easily outdistance his previous high of nine set just a week prior at Rhode Island. Latham made 7-of-10 shots from the field and 3-of-4 from the line while making his first start since November 11 at the University of Washington. His strong play of late started when he logged a career-high 27 minutes off the bench before fouling out midway through overtime at Rhode Island on November 23. Latham scored a then-career-best nine points and also had five rebounds, an assist and a block, and he was at his best late in the tight game.

Last Wednesday at Coppin State, Latham scored just four points, but he matched his career-high with 27 minutes and had a particularly strong defensive effort. He grabbed six boards and swatted three shots against the Eagles. Cormier s Career-High Dylon Cormier had a career-high scoring night at Coppin State, tallying 27 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He made 11-of-12 from the line, 5-of-6 in the final five minutes of the game. Cormier eclipsed his previous career-best of 26 set last season in a win at George Washington. The junior guard also was one off his career-high in rebounds, grabbing eight boards for the second-straight game, and he dished out four assists in a career-high 39 minutes of action. After scoring 19 on Monday night against Towson, as well, Cormier is averaging 23 points in the Greyhounds last two games. Charm City Pride Baltimore born and raised Dylon Cormier plays at or near his best when the Greyhounds face another team from the Baltimore area. The junior guard, who was in the last graduating class at the now closed Cardinal Gibbons High School, has scored 145 points in eight career games against teams from Baltimore and the surrounding suburbs. Including his career-high 27 on Wednesday, Cormier has averaged 18.1 points against Coppin State (two games), Towson (two), UMBC (three) and Morgan State (one). He has four games with 20 or more points among the eight contests. In the last year, Cormier has averaged 20.6 in five games against the teams. Doubling Up Anthony Winbush notched the first double-double of his career on November 28 at Coppin State, scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. His 12 rebounds represented the 12th time in his tenure at Loyola that he has posted 10 or more rebounds, and it was the fourth time he has scored 10 or more points. He also set a career-high in rebounds, eclipsing the 11 he posted in his seventh career game on November 29, 2008, at Vermont. Winbush also set a career-high in minutes played (37) and matched his previous best in free throws made (five) and attempted (six). Second-Half Defense After ceding 30 points and a 3-point deficit in the first half, Loyola turned up its defensive pressure at Coppin State and held the Eagles to 22.6-percent from the field (7-of-31) after the break. They also missed all 12 of their 3-point attempts after the break. Loyola held Coppin State without a field goal for the first 5-minutes, 30-seconds and the final 6-minutes 6-seconds of the second half. In between, Loyola kept the Eagles without a field goal for a stretch of 4-minutes, 42-seconds. Olson Comes Up Big Robert Olson scored 20 points at Rhode Island, coming up one shy of his career-high in scoring (21 at Iona in January 2012 and at Marist in January 2011). The senior guard made eight field goals, tying his career-high, and his 16 field-goal attempts represented a career-high. He was good from 4-of-9 behind the arc, also the most 3-pointers he s attempted in a game, and his 39 minutes were the most he s played since coming to Loyola. Olson has now scored 20 or more five times as a Greyhound, the last coming when he recorded 21 at Iona on January 13, He tallied 20 on two occasions and 21 once as a sophomore in All four of his previous 20 or 21 point games came in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action, and all but one of his five have come on the road. His game-tying three at Rhode Island was the second of his Loyola career that sent a game to overtime. He nailed a three, also from the left side, against Iona on January 30, 2011, to tie the game a with 7.2 seconds on the clock in a game the Greyhounds would win, 88-85, in overtime.

The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds at Rhode Island. Late Game Heroics Loyola s games against Albany and Rhode Island, both wins, came down to the last four seconds of regulation (and then some). On November 18, Albany tied the game with 3.1 ticks on the clock, Loyola Head Coach Jimmy Patsos set up an inbound play in a timeout. Graduate student Anthony Winbush threw a baseball pass 80 feet to Dylon Cormier who was inside the opposite foul line. Cormier caught the pass, laid it in with his right hand and was fouled in the process by Albany s D.J. Evans with 1.5 seconds left. Cormier made the free throw to provide the final margin, and Albany s inbound pass went off the hands of Evans and out-of-bounds to secure the win. Robert Olson then sank a 3-pointer with 3.7 on the clock at Rhode Island to force overtime where the Greyhounds would win by four. Steady Performance Erik Etherly turned in another 20-point game, his second of the season, against Albany, scoring 23 points on 7-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-12 at the line. He also tied Anthony Winbush for team-high honors with seven rebounds. Etherly had his second 20-plus point game of the week and the young season after recording 22 in Loyola s Wednesday-night win over UMBC on November 14. He has now scored 20 or more six times during his tenure at Loyola hitting or eclipsing the plateau four times last year and the Greyhounds are 6-0 in those games. In Loyola s three wins that week, including a Saturday victory over Norfolk State in which he scored 12 and had nine rebounds, Etherly averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. He made 22-of-28 (.786) free throws, as well, during the stretch. Hubbard Honored Redshirt freshman guard Tyler Hubbard was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on November 19 after averaging 10.3 points in three Loyola wins. Hubbard scored a career-high 17 on Wednesday night of the prior week against UMBC and followed with 11 versus Norfolk State. While he scored just three in the Albany game, he was involved in several key defensive possessions for the Greyhounds at the end of the game. Freshmen Produce A trio of Loyola freshmen combined for 34 points and 15 rebounds against UMBC, as Tyler Hubbard (a redshirt freshman) scored 17, while Jarred Jones and Franz Rassman had eight and nine. The group also had five assists, six blocked shots and four steals in the win. Combined the three played 70 minutes against the Retrievers. Dylon Cormier scored a game-high 21 points, and Loyola used runs of 19-0 and 20-5 to win its season-opener, 71-45, over visiting Binghamton in a sold-out Reitz Arena. The Bearcats scored on the opening possession, but the Greyhounds reeled off 19 in a row, capped by a Cormier 3-pointer to go ahead 19-2 with 9:29 to go in the first half. Loyola pushed the lead to 19 at two points late in the first half, but a Taylor Johnston jumper with under a second to go for Binghamton made it at the break.
