8 Player of the Week MELVIN R THOMPSON lbs Junior Richmond, Indiana A brilliant star who was second high scorer last season, his first on the Wolfpack varsity, Thompson hit for 396 points to average 132 per game There is probably no better competitor on any squad in the nation, for Thompson is a scrapper from the opening whistle Mel has two fine shots, an overhead hook and a one handed push, both of which are deadly accurate He starred on so many occasions last year that there isn t space to list the games, but he was the clutch man in the Southern Conference championship game against Duke, scoring 16 points Mel is a ball-player s ballplayer His teammates and opponents alike praise his ability Mel can handle a bigger center with ease and usually gets the best of the bargain Few men have his endurance on the floor and it s not unusual for him to play 40 minutes without relief Thompson is one of the really great players on the current Wolfpack squad, but he gets the job done with such a limited display that he s usually unsung when the plaudits are handed out with the writers Enrolled in Rural and Industrial Recreation and member of the Infantry ROTC unit Plans coaching career after graduation Son of Mr and Mrs W J Thompson, 1820 Ratliff St, Richmond, Ind Twenty years old Ball of the Game The ball with the soft touch, New Formula 15 treated for sure grip 'See It At t JOHNSON-LAMBE CO Raleigh, N C I
