3 *** NOTICE *** NOTICE *** NOTICE *** TO: ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS SEPTIC TANK CLEANING The following is to inform all community members that the Band is once again organizing the emptying of the septic tanks for this summer (July August, 2015). Attached is the list of homes for which the homeowners or occupants have fully paid the septic insurance each year for the last (3) years. These homes which are on the list will have their septic tanks emptied this summer during the months of July and August. We ask that all homeowners that have septic tanks to verify that their house is on the attached list. If your house does not show up on the list, it is most likely that you no longer have a septic tank because you are hooked up to the KZA sewer system or that the payment of the septic insurance was missed for one or more years during the last (3) years. If this is the case and you would like to get your septic tank emptied this summer, you will need to call the Band Office to make the necessary arrangements. You can contact Debbie Whiteduck, Assistant Community Services Director or Dolores Odjick, Finance Clerk at the Band Office at for more information. We would like to remind all homeowners that the last time the septic tanks were emptied in the community was (3) years ago. In most cases, this is the maximum amount of time a septic tank can go before it needs to be emptied. Should you decide not to have your septic tank emptied this year, you run the risk of damaging your septic field. Damage to the septic field caused by not emptying your septic tank is considered neglect on the part of the homeowner and will not be covered by the septic insurance in the future when the damage occurs. The average cost to replace a septic field is between $3,000 - $3,500. The cost for the emptying of the septic tanks this year is $300. If you have paid septic insurance for (2) years out of the last (3) years, then your cost to get your septic tank emptied this summer will be $100. If you have paid septic insurance for (1) year out of the last (3) years, then your cost to get your septic tank emptied this summer will be $200. If you have not paid any septic insurance at all for the last (3) years, then the cost to empty your septic tank will be $300. (Note: the average cost for those making their own arrangements to have their septic tank emptied is usually around $400) Septic Tank Cleaning 2015 Page 1 of 2

4 For those that would like to make some sort of financial arrangement such as payroll deductions, deductions at the source, etc., you can contact Sandy Commanda, Financial Comptroller/Community Services Director at the Band Office at to see what type of arrangement may best suit your needs. Special note: For those homeowners that have had their house built within the last 2 years, you might want to consider paying the difference to get your septic tank emptied this year since the next time the septic tanks will get emptied again by the Band will be in the year 2018 and by then, your septic tank will have been operating for either 4 or 5 years and will have exceeded the 3 year operating limit of the septic tank before cleaning. As usual, our work crews will be going around uncovering the septic tank covers to get ready for the contractor that will be emptying the septic tanks. Once the tank has been emptied, the work crews will be going back to bury the covers back up. It can take up to a week or two between the time the septic tank covers are exposed to the time the work crews have a chance to go back to re-bury them.
