The game is slated to tip at 7 p.m. A free live video stream of the game will be available through the Patriot League Network on NavySports.com. About Johns Hopkins The Blue Jays, who compete in the Centennial Conference on the NCAA Division III level, enter Tuesday s game with a 2-4 record on the season. That overall record includes a 1-2 mark within the Centennial Conference. Johns Hopkins compiled a 16-9 record during the season and tied for third place in the Centennial Conference with a 13-5 record. The squad was tabbed to place second in the conference this season. Both the Blue Jays and McDaniel garnered 136 points in the voting just one more point than third-place Muhlenberg received but McDaniel was given the nod due to it receiving eight firstplace votes to five for Johns Hopkins. The Series Tuesday s game marks the first meeting between the teams since Navy s opening game of the season. The Mids won that game, which was played 38 years and one day ago (Dec. 7, 1977) in Annapolis, by the score of The teams also played during the season, Navy s inaugural campaign as a program. The Mids recorded a victory in the game that was played on March 4, 1977, at St. Mary s as part of the Maryland State Women s Division B Tournament. (Navy s games played during the season were considered junior varsity games and as a result the games are not included toward the program s overall varsity won-loss record). Navy vs. Centennial Conference The lone other team from the Centennial Conference that Navy has played is Franklin & Marshall. A Look Back Shooting woes limited Navy in a loss at Penn Saturday afternoon at The Palestra in Philadelphia. The Mids quickly scored the first eight points of the game, but were managed just 18 more points through the end of the third quarter, by which time they trailed, Navy did have two three-point attempts that would have sliced the margin down to as few as seven points in the fourth quarter, but neither fell. Penn made just two more field goals than Navy did, 20-18, and the Mids held a 7-5 lead in three-point field goals made, but the Quakers held a 39.2%-29.5% advantage in overall field goal percentage. Additionally, Penn made free throw attempts while Navy was held without a free throw attempt for the first time in school history. Sarita Condie made a career-best five-three-point field goals in the game on her way to tallying 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Additionally, Taylor Dunham tallied 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Mids. A Look Ahead Navy will take to the road for its final game prior to final exams this weekend when the Mids play Sunday at Kansas in a 2 p.m. EST start. The Jayhawks, who have posted a 4-3 record this season, placed ninth in the Big 12 Conference during the season with a 6-12 record that was part of an overall mark of Kansas was predicted to finish in 10th place in the Big 12 this season. The contest is a homecoming game for Navy junior Danielle Poblarp, who hails from Topeka, Kan. She is one of three players in Navy history to come from the Sunflower State: Andrea Anderson from Emporia (played to ), Lindi Conner from Kingman ( through ). The game also will be Navy s first against a team from Kansas and its first game in Kansas. With the game against the Jayhawks, the Mids will have played teams from 36 states and a game in 37 states. 3 The U.S. Naval Academy As the undergraduate college of the Naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and reserve commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years as Navy or Marine Corps officers. Founded in 1845 by Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft, the Academy started as the Naval School on 10 acres of old Fort Severn in Annapolis with an original class of 55. In 1850 the Naval School became the United States Naval Academy. A new curriculum went into effect requiring midshipmen to study at the Academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer. Congress authorized the Naval Academy to begin awarding bachelor of science degrees in Today, the Academy offers 25 major fields of study, a wide variety of elective courses and advanced study and research opportunities. Participation, Community Service 88% Midshipman The word midshipman first appeared in English in the 17th century in the form of the word midshipman to designate those men who were stationed amidships, i.e. in the waist or middle portion of the vessel, while on duty. By 1687, however, the second s had been dropped to give the current form of the word. Midshipmen were originally boys, sometimes as young as seven or eight, who were apprenticed to sea captains to learn the sailor s trade. In the early days of the Navy, midshipmen trained aboard ship until they were eventually commissioned as ensigns. With the founding of the Naval Academy in 1845, it became possible, as it still is, for a midshipman to enter the Navy directly from civilian life. The name of students at the Naval Academy changed several times between 1870 and 1902, when Congress restored the original title of Midshipman, and it has remained unchanged since. Fenske made 27 starts and appeared in all 31 games for the Mids a year ago. She averaged 4.7 points and a team-high 2.8 assists a game. Her assist average led all freshmen in the Patriot League and ranked seventh overall. Curtis to be SWO Members of the Class of 2016 recently learned of their service assignment for their upcoming military careers. Peri Curtis, the lone senior on the women s basketball team, will become a surface warfare office once she graduates from the USNA this May and is commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy. She will choose her first ship assignment during the second semester. The patriarch of her family, D.C. Curtis, who played football at Navy, rose to the rank of Vice Admiral and closed out his military career by serving as the Commander of the Pacific Fleet s Naval Surface Force. The Mids trailed the Phoenix by three points when she drained a three-point shot with 33.5 seconds left in regulation to tie the score and force the first overtime period. She then drilled another triple to tie the score with 9.5 seconds left in the first overtime to force a second overtime session. In that second extra period, Condie made two free throws with 14.4 seconds remaining to give Navy a lead. A few days later, she was fouled with 1.1 seconds left and Navy trailing Colorado State by two points. Condie calmly sank both free throw attempts to knot the game and send it into its first overtime stanza. History Lessons on Road Trips Navy will play a trio of games in historic venues this season. The Mids first played Penn on Sat., Dec. 5, in The Palestra. Opened Jan. 1, 1927, the Cathedral of College Basketball has played host to more college basketball games than any other arena. Navy will next take on Kansas on Sun., Dec. 13, in Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Named after the school s longtime men s coach, the venue opened on March 1, 1955, and is recognized as one of the best places to watch basketball. The Mids will then face Army West Point on Sat., Jan. 23, in Madison Square Garden in the annual Star Game doubleheader between the two service academy men s and women s teams. The current incarnation of the World s Most Famous Arena, the fourth MSG to be constructed, opened on Feb. 11, 1968.

Regardless of the major selected, all graduates receive a Bachelor s of Science degree. Majors are selected in the spring of one s freshman year. She opened the season by scoring in double digits in four of Navy s first six games this year. Included in her efforts in the double overtime win against the Elon were a three-point shot with 33.5 seconds left in regulation to tie the score and force overtime, as well as another triple with 9.5 seconds left in the first extra stanza to tie the game and force an additional period. The 5-7 guard also notched a team-best seven rebounds, which fell one shy of tying her career-best effort and allowed her to lead the Mids in rebounding in a game for just the second time in her career. Peri Curtis vs. Siena Peri Curtis played a big role in Navy s victory over Siena. She entered the game having scored 16 points through four games, but tallied 13 points and a season-high tying eight rebounds in the victory over the Saints. Included in her points total were a pair of three-point field goals on three attempts from beyond the arc. Taylor Dunham vs. Colorado State Taylor Dunham entered Navy s game against Colorado State with having totaled five three-point field goals and 33 points in her first four games of the season (she sat out the Nov. 24 game vs. Elon due to an ankle injury). Against the Rams, Dunham connected on 6-9 threepoint attempts, shots from the field in all and 2-3 of her free throw attempts to end the game with 28 points. Included among her triples was one with 18.3 seconds remaining that pulled the Mids to within of the Rams. She then stole the ball with roughly five seconds remaining and fed Sarita Condie who was fouled with 1.1 seconds left in regulation. Condie s two free throws sent the game into the first of two overtime periods. Dunham s 28 points are tied for the second highest point total by a Mid in Stefanie Pemper s eight seasons. The lone player to tally more points in a game was Alix Membreno, who scored 34 in a double overtime win at two seasons ago. Dunham at Penn Dunham had an effective game when the Mids faced Penn. She was 5-12 from the floor in scoring 11 points, while also adding a career-high six rebounds and handing out five assists (one short of her career high effort) in her 31 minutes of playing time. Strong Scoring Start for Kennedy Ashanti Kennedy entered Navy s opening game at Hofstra having scored in double figures in four career games, all of which came during the season. 5 Summertime for a Mid The summer months is when Midshipmen at the Naval Academy have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Navy or Marine Corps. Besides having the opportunity to go home, over the summer Midshipmen are scattered all over the world visiting a number of ships and bases to learn about the different communities available to them in the Fleet. Sarah Reilly vs. LIU Brooklyn Sarah Reilly entered Navy s game against LIU Brooklyn having totaled 16 points and 19 rebounds in Navy s first six games of the season. Reilly tallied a career-high 20 points and snared a season-best nine caroms against the Blackbirds. Reilly made 8-16 shots from the floor including a 2-6 effort from three-point range while adding a 2-4 night from the foul line in her 26 minutes of playing time. Bianca Roach vs. Elon Freshman Bianca Roach made the first start of her career against Elon a memorable one. She played 34 of the 45 minutes in the game and tallied 12 points, three steals and two assists in the double overtime win by the Mids. Eight of her 12 points came in the second overtime period, as did her two biggest plays in the game. She first picked the pocket of an Elon defender and was immediately fouled with just over one minute left. Roach made one of two free throws to give Navy a lead. After Elon took a lead on their next possession, Roach scored on an acrobatic layup while being fouled with 34.1 seconds left and made the foul shot to give Navy a lead. Roach vs. LIU Brooklyn Roach had another effective game against LIU Brooklyn as she totaled eight points, seven assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Justice Swett s Rebounds Justice Swett averaged 4.4 points a game during the season, but her offensive efforts went beyond her scoring ability as she tied for fourth in the Patriot League with an average of 2.77 offensive rebounds a game. That average nearly matched her prowess on the defensive end of the court where she pulled down an average of 3.1 boards a game. Swett has kept up that rebounding pace during the early part of the season as 28 of her 47 rebounds have come on the offensive end.
