Those five games have been determined by a total of 13 points. I Each of the three most recent games in the Navy-Lehigh series have been played in Bethlehem. I Navy is two three-point field goals made shy of reach 200 on the season. Only three Navy teams ( , , ) and a total of five Patriot League teams have made 200 in a season. I With her scoring the 1,000th point of her career during Navy s game Saturday against Colgate, Jade Geif became one of nine Mids to have reached both 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in a career. I Kara Pollinger went over the 100-assist mark on the season during Navy s game against the Raiders.

2 2 U.S. Naval Academy Information The U.S. Naval Academy As the undergraduate college of the Naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and reserve commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years as Navy or Marine Corps officers. Founded in 1845 by Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft, the Academy started as the Naval School on 10 acres of old Fort Severn in Annapolis with an original class of 55. In 1850 the Naval School became the United States Naval Academy. A new curriculum went into effect requiring midshipmen to study at the Academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer. Congress authorized the Naval Academy to begin awarding bachelor of science degrees in Today, the Academy offers 18 major fields of study, a wide variety of elective courses and advanced study and research opportunities. USNA Mission Statement To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future deployment in mind and character to assume the highest responsiblities of command, citizenship and government. Class of 2016 Facts Enrollment 1,211 (917 men, 294 women) Applicants 20,601 (15,781 men, 4,820 women) Class Rank in H.S. (top 10%) 56% Class Rank in H.S. (top 25%) 71% Class Rank in H.S. By 1687, however, the second s had been dropped to give the current form of the word. Midshipmen were originally boys, sometimes as young as seven or eight, who were apprenticed to sea captains to learn the sailor s trade. In the early days of the American Navy, midshipmen trained aboard ship until they were eventually commissioned as ensigns. With the founding of the Naval Academy in 1845, it became possible, as it still is, for a midshipman to enter the Navy directly from civilian life. The name of students at the Naval Academy changed several times between 1870 and 1902, when Congress restored the original title of Midshipman, and it has remained unchanged since. Women at USNA Women were first admitted to the service academies during the summer of Currently, women comprise 21% of the 4,400-member Brigade of Midshipmen. Graduation Success Rate For the eighth year in a row, the United States Naval Academy is at the head of the class for graduating NCAA student-athletes on the Division IA level. Navy graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes in 4 of the 21 NCAA sports reported on and averaged an overall rate of 93 percent for student-athletes in all sports the tied for the eighth-highest mark nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Academic Majors Students at the Naval Academy can select one of 22 different majors, as well as attain a minor in one of seven languages. Regardless of the major selected, all graduates receive a Bachelor s of Science degree. Division of Engineering and Weapons aerospace engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, general engineering, mechanical engineering, Naval architecture, ocean engineering, systems engineering Division of Math and Science chemistry, computer science, general science, information technology, mathematics, oceanography, physics Division of Humanities and Social Science Arabic, Chinese, economics, English, history, political science, quantitative economics Anchors Aweigh Anchors Aweigh was written by Lt. Charles Zimmermann, Musical Director of the Naval Academy in 1906, with the lyrics provided by Alfred H. Miles of the Class of 1906, as a fight song for the 1907 graduating class instead of the usual class march Zimmermann had composed for previous classes. The song made its debut at the 1906 Army-Navy game, and when the Midshipmen won the game, the song became traditional at this game. It gained national exposure in the 1920s and 1930s when it was heard on the radio and was in a number of popular movies. In 1997 a one-hour documentary on the history of Navy football, titled Anchors Aweigh for Honor and Glory, was produced by NFL Films. The film was deemed a success by both critics and fans alike. Here are the words: Stand Navy down the field, Sails set to the sky, We ll never change our course, So Army you steer shy. Geif would account for eight points during Navy s game-opening 11-4 run. Colgate cut the Navy lead down to three points at when Alix Membreno scored on a layup and foul shot. Navy held a lead when, oin successive possessions, Geif scored on a jumper, Chloe Stapleton hit a three-point shot and Kara Pollinger scored on a layup to give Navy a lead with 8:07 left in the half. Colgate again rallied and soon it was a three-point game at with five minutes left to play before the break. Lehigh Notes / Series History Lehigh enters Wednesday s game on a four-game winning streak, which followed a pair of losses by a total of 11 points, and with a Patriot League record of 6-6 this season. The Mountain Hawks have posted a 4-1 record in league road games and, after playing at Navy, will close the season Saturday at Army. Navy began its membership in the Patriot League by compiling a 5-13 record in its opening game of a league season over its first 18 years, but has since posted a 4-0 record in its season opening game. Holy Cross Streak Continues Navy had compiled a 1-20 record against Holy Cross in its first 21 trips to play the Crusaders at Worcester. However, with its win at the Hart Center on Jan. 16, the Mids ran their winning streak in the facility to five-consecutive games. Additionally, with the win Navy became the first Patriot League team to defeat Holy Cross five-straight times in Worcester (American currently has a four-game winning streak going in the Hart Center). American s Streak Ends Navy s victory over American ended an 18-game Patriot League regular season winning streak by the Eagles against the entire league. Prior to the Jan. 23 victory by the Mids over the Eagles in Alumni Hall, the last time American lost a league regular season game was Feb. 23, 2011, when Navy won a decision in Annapolis. Between those two wins by the Mids, American did lose twice to league teams. The first time was a win by the Mids over the Eagles in the championship game of the 2011 Patriot League Tournament in Annapolis, while the second loss was a defeat at home to Holy Cross in the semifinal round of the league tournament. 14 3FGM at Lehigh Navy made 14 three-point field goals in its victory over Lehigh on Jan. 30. Those 14 makes came on 26 attempts, which gave the Mids a shooting percentage of 53.8 percent from outside of the arc. Additionally, while the Mids made 14 triples, they also held the Mountain Hawks to just 16 total field goals in the game. The 14 treys ranks second in Navy and Patriot League history to the 15 made by the Mids against Colgate in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 league tournament. Kara Pollinger accounted for 10 of those 20 points, including three-point field goals on back-to-back possession to ignite the run. Navy was 8-14 from the field with two turnovers, while Bucknell was 1-13 from the floor and committed five turnovers. Navy Sweeps Holy Cross Navy scored the first five points in its game against Holy Cross on Feb. 13 before going on a 14-0 run later in the first half. The Mids would then open the second half on a 19-2 run to open up a lead on the Crusaders before posting a victory. The 35 points scored by Holy Cross was tied for the second-fewest points allowed by a Navy team in a league regular season game (33, Army, 1996), while the 24-point margin of victory was the largest for the Mids in series history (17, 2012).
