The Bison upset #13 Wisconsin in 2006 and #8 Marquette in In they beat Oakland to win the Summit and go to the NCAA tournament, their first on the DI level. NDSU alums include Alf Clausen, the sole composer for the Simpson s television show, San Francisco Giant football player Craig Dahl, former Philadelphia Eagle running back Lamar Gordon and two former North Dakota governors, Arthur Link and William Guy.

3 Bronc Briefs **Rider is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, between Princeton and Trenton, between New York City and Philadelphia. **Rider is in its 17 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. **Rider finished in second place in the MAAC last year. **Rider was invited to compete in the CIT in 2009, 2011 and again last year **Rider began the season ranked 21 st in the nation among Mid-Majors according to CollegeInsider.com **The Broncs advanced to the MAAC Championship Game in 2008 and were selected to play in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational. ** Rider won a program-record 59 games between 2009 and **In the last six seasons Rider has had a MAAC Player of the Year, MAAC Rookie of the Year, three First Team All-MAAC selections, four Second Team, four Third Team and three All-Rookie Team members. **This year Rider has two Preseason Second Team All-MAAC selections, Daniel Stewart and Anthony Myles Home Sweet Home-Rider in Broncs Zoo Rider is 0-1 at home this year. The Broncs have won 159 of their last 222 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.719), finishing 9-5 at home last year. Rider was 8-5 at home in Rider was 9-5 at home in In and the Broncs put together back-to-back 11-2 home records. The season was the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2, which included three wins in the Northeast Conference Championship tournament. Percentagewise, was the best year in the Broncs Zoo, as Rider went 9-1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both and Zedric the Entertainer Sophomore Zedric Sadler missed all of preseason and the first game of the season with a knee injury. He made his first start of the season at Central Connecticut on November 23 and compiled a career high 21 points and a career high five assists in Rider s first win of the season. When Opportunity Knocks Tommy Pereira made three of four three-point field goal attempts off the bench in Rider s win at Hartford last year in the CIT. Pereira made the best of his first two collegiate starts ealier last year. He scored 17 points to lead Rider to victory at Saint Peter s January 17. The Brit sharp-shooter made five of nine three-pointers, many in crucial times. In the win over Iona he scored a team-high 14 points, making four three-pointers and grabbed a career-high 5 rebounds. Pereira was thrown into the starting line-up last year due to injuries. Defending the 3 Ball Rider was 18th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 29.6 percent. At one point in January the Broncs ranked ninth in the nation, holding opponents to 27.7 percent from threepoint range. 6-2 MAAC Start Best in 5 Years The Broncs began MAAC play 6-2 last year for the first time since the season when the Broncs began MAAC play D-Fence Rider s emphasis on defense last year under new head coach Kevin Baggett was obvious in the MAAC statistics. Rider was first in three-point field goal percentage defense, second in overall field goal percentage defense, third in blocks, fourth in defensive rebounds and fourth in points allowed. Sunshine State Rider has three freshmen from Florida this year, Jimmie Taylor from Suwannee (near Gainesville), Kahlil Thomas from Parkway (near Orlando but went to high school in Broward County) and Brandon Channer of Tampa, who originally hails from Jamaica. 4 Cable Car Classic This is the 47 th Cable Car Classic, hosted by Santa Clara University. In 31 Classics a team went on to the NCAA tournament, and 10 times the Classic has produced multiple NCAA qualifiers. In 1995 all four teams went to the NCAA Big Dance. Michael Jordan, Ralph Sampson, Stephen Marbury and Kevin Baggett have played in this tournament. Rider head coach Kevin Baggett played in the 1987 Classic when Saint Joseph s lost to the host Broncos before defeating Pacific in the consolation game. Location, Location, Location The City of Santa Clara, California is located 45 miles southeast of San Francisco in the center of the Silicon Valley. In Season Tournaments Last year after losing at South Carolina and at SMU, Rider beat Jacksonville and Milwaukee to win the Rick Majerus Cup in the Hoops for Hope Classic, held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In Rider competed in the Hoop Group Classic, losing at Pitt, to Penn, to JMU and to La Salle. In Rider competed in the Hall of Fame Tip Off, losing at UMass before defeating Southern Call, Texas Christian and Loyola Marymount. In Rider competed in the Cancun Challenge, losing at Virginia and at Kentucky before defeating Florida A&M and losing to Sam Houston in Cancun. In Rider competed in the Old Spice Classic, losing to NC State before defeating Penn State and losing to Kansas State. Rider returns to the Old Spice Classic in In Rider competed in the College of Charleston tournament, losing to Hartford before defeating North Dakota State in the consolation game. In Rider competed in the Hawaii-Hilo Tournament, defeating Quinnipiac before losing to host Hawaii-Hilo. In Rider won the Conference Challenge at UMBC, defeating George Mason and Morgan State. In Rider was in the Dr. Pepper Classic, losing to Chattanooga before defeating Hampton in the consolation game. Rider won the Franklin Life Classic in , defeating host College of Charleston in the first round and Central Connecticut in the championship game. In Rider competed in the Gaucho Classic at Santa Barbara, losing to Westmont before defeating Akron in the consolation game. In the Preseason NIT, Rider lost at Temple, and in the ECAC Holiday Festival, lost to Kentucky and St. John s at Madison Square Garden. In Rider competed in the Music city Invitaitonal in Nashville, losing to Bowling Green and Air Force. In Rider was in the Hawaii-Hilo tournament, defeating Canisius before losing to Grand Canyon in the Title Game. In Rider was in the Stanford Tournament, losing to Stanford before defeating St. Mary s in the consolation game.

5 NDSU This Year The Bison lost to rival North Dakota on Sunday, falling to 2-3 on the season. They beat Viterbo in the season home opener and won at Western Michigan on November 20. NDSU is led by 6 7" senior guard Taylor Braun, who is averaging 19.6 points, 4.1 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Dexter Werner is contributing 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. Senior forwards Marshall Bjorklund and TrayVonn Wright are combining for 25 points per game. Rider vs. NDSU The Broncs defeated North Dakota State University in the consolation game of the College of Charleston Tournament during the season. That was the only meeting between these two teams. NDSU Last Year The Bison were last year, losing to South Dakota State in the Summit League Championship game. They lost by one point on the road to Western Michigan in the first round of the CBI tournament. NDSU vs. SCU The Bison defeated host Santa Clara in the first round of the Cable Car Classic Friday. In that game, the Bison led at the half. Senior guard Taylor Braun scored 21 points, making all 19 of his foul shots, and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Lawrence Alexander contributed15 points and eight rebounds. NDSU made 32 fouls shots, compared to 19 foul shots made by Santa Clara. And Away We Go Rider began the season 2-2 on the road (1-2 in away games, 1-0 on neutral court) and six of the first seven contests are on the road. Rider was on the road last year, 8-9 in away games and 2-1 in neutral site games. The Broncs were 5-10 in away games in , not including 0-3 on neutral court. Rider was 11-6 in away games in The Broncs finished the regular season 8-8 on the road. The Broncs finished 7-8 on the road in , including the postseason game at Liberty and were 5-4 in the MAAC. Rider finished the regular season 9-5 in away games in and was 3-2 on neutral court for a 12-7 record away from Alumni Gym. The Broncs were 7-9 on the road in

6 Rider in Season Openers Rider began the season with a loss on 11/12/13 at Lehigh. The Broncs won the season opener vs. Robert Morris in Alumni Gymnasium. Rider won the season opener at Mississippi State. The Broncs lost the opener at Robert Morris. Rider is 4-7 in the last 11 season openers. Rider lost the season opener at UMass. Rider lost the opener at St. Joseph s and the opener at Murray State. In Rider lost the opener at NJIT. The Broncs lost to Bucknell in both the and openers. Rider beat Brown in the opener and beat Monmouth in the season opener. Ready For Prime Time The Broncs are 0-1 on TV this year (BIG 10 Netowrk). Rider was 3-3 on national broadcasts (3-2 ESPN3, 0-1 ESPN) last year. In the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television. Rider on TV This Year The Broncs play on the Big Ten Network (Purdue), the Patriot League Network (Lehigh), ESPN3 (Monmouth, Saint Peter s, Marist, Iona), Fox Sports 1 (Villanova) and ESPNU (Manhattan, Iona) this year. Rider in Home Openers Tonight is the home opener. The Broncs won the home opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. The Broncs lost to Drexel in Alumni Gym at 6am on November 15, 2011 in the first home game of Rider won five home openers in a row before that and has won 14 of the last 17 home openers. Last Time Out Rider senior Anthony Myles (Dover, DE/Poly-Tech) scored 27 points, including the 1,000 th of his career, to lead Rider to an overtime victory in the first round of the Cable Car Classic, hosted by Santa Clara University. Myles was 10 of 13 from the foul line. His two foul shots with 5:12 left in regulation gave Rider an lead and gave Myles 1,001 career points. Senior Daniel Stewart (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) made a lay-up with 20 seconds left in the second half to tie the score at 84-84, the eighth tie of the game, and blocked a Rice lay-up with 2 seconds left, sending the game into overtime. Stewart was six for seven from the foul line. In overtime, Stewart blocked another shot with 14.5 seconds left to preserve a lead, and made two foul shots for the final score. Stewart finished with 19 points, six in overtime, and six rebounds in just 23 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Next Time Out After the Classic Rider plays its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game of the season, traveling to new MAAC member Monmouth on December 5. Between Long Branch, NJ and Santa Clara, California is about 2,750 miles.

7 Head Coach Kevin Baggett Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I level as an assistant. In his first season he led Rider to 19 wins, the CIT and was a finalist for two National Coaching Awards. Baggett was an assistant for two years at Rider before being named Associate Head Coach in Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph s University team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph s in June, Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Baggs Finalist for Two Awards Rider head basketball coach Kevin Baggett was a finalist for two Coach of the Year Awards last year, the Ben Jobe Award and the Joe B. Hall award. The Joe B. Hall award is presented annually to the top firstyear coach in Division I college basketball. The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top minority coach in Division I men s basketball. Coach Jobe is an icon in the history of basketball at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Old Building, New Look When the Rider campus moved from downtown Trenton to the suburbs of Lawrenceville 54 years ago, the first building that was built on the old Pate Farm was The Alumni Gymnasium. The 1958 commencement officially opened the new building. Most of the original floor still remained until a heavy rain storm flooded the building during the summer of 2009 and a new floor was inserted during September and October. The new floor was first used November 4, The building also had the original heating system until the summer of 2012 when The Broncs Zoo was refurbished. This year Alumni Gym has been upgraded with a new 16 x 9 HD video board. First Year Head Broncs In his first season as head coach Kevin Baggett compiled 19 wins. The last time the Broncs won six in a row was when Rider won the final five games of the season and a MAAC Tournament game for a six-game winning streak. Rider in Non-Conference Games Rider is 2-3 in non-conference games this year (1-0 Conference USA, 1-0 vs. NEC, 0-1 America East, 0-1 vs. Patriot, 0-1 vs. BIG 10). Rider was 7-8 in nonconference games last year, 2-0 vs. NEC, 1-0 vs. Atlantic Sun, 1-0 vs. Horizon, 1-0 vs. Big South, 1-1 vs CAA, 0-1 vs. the SEC, 0-1 vs. Atlantic 10, 0-2 vs. Conference USA, 0-1 Ivy, 0-1 vs BIG EAST and 1-1 vs. America East. Stewart From Three Daniel Stewart made his first three point field goal in his 90 th career game, on February 3, 2013, and began this year by making two in each of the first two games of the season, his 101st and 102nd career games. Rider in Post Season Last year was Rider s fourth postseason tournament in six years, playing at Hartford and at East Carolina in the CIT. In 2011 Rider played Northern Iowa in the CIT. In 2009 the Broncs played Liberty in the CIT. In 2008 Rider played Old Dominion in the CBI. In 1998 Rider received its first-ever National Invitation Tournament bid and traveled to Penn State. In 1994 Rider won the NEC and played Connecticut in the NCAAs on Long Island. In 1993 Rider won the Northeast Conference and played Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament in Nashville. The Broncs won the East Coast Conference Championship in 1984 and played Richmond in the opening round of the NCAAs at the Palestra. A Before H, Except After K, and Vice Versa Sophomore guard Alford spells his first name Khalil. Freshman forward Thomas spells his first name Kahlil. Both pronounce it ka LEAL. Rider Alumni Former Broncs you may have heard of: Jason Thompson 08. Graduated from Rider in 2008 and was the 12 th player picked in the 2008 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. Jason has played over 380 NBA games. He is a career 50 percent field goal shooter and has shot over 66 percent from the foul line. He has averaged 7.1 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists, along with his 10.5 ppg average. At Rider Thompson played 122 games and compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds. Richard Digger Phelps 64. Played basketball and golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider varsity sports in and coached football, basketball and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won National Championships. A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the threesecond rule. Dick Kuchen 66. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in rebounds and was fifth in career scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale. Harry Gamble 52 Captained the last football team at Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in 1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World Champion Cincinnati Reds. Jack Madden 65. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5 as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team. Went on to enjoy a long career as an NBA referee, including 25 NBA championship series games.

9 Rider in MAAC This is Rider s 17 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Rider is in conference play since joining the MAAC, including 12-6 last year. The.560 winning percentage is the third highest all-time winning percentage in conference play. Iona is first at.597, followed by Siena at.585. After Rider is Niagara is.547, Fairfield is.478, Manhattan.474, Saint Peter s.452, Marist.439, Canisius.397. Rider in MAAC , second , seventh , seventh , fourth , first , seventh , fifth , first , tenth , seventh , first , third , fifth , tied for second , fifth , second Total Waiting in the Wings Three Broncs will be practicing with the team this year but must wait until to play, due to the transfer rules. Teddy Okereafor came to Rider from across the pond, London, by way of VCU, and has two seasons to play at Rider, beginning next year. Skylar Scrivano is from across the river, Pennsylvania, graduating from Central Bucks East and came to Rider from Columbia, and also has two seasons to play at Rider. Matt Lopez hails from Washington Township, NJ and came to Rider from Utah State and before that La Salle, and has one year left to play for the Broncs. Staff Changes NBA veteran and UConn All-American Donyell Marshall joins the coaching staff this year as an assistant coach. Following his playing career, Marshall was an assistant coach at George Washington University and coached on the professional level in the NBA Development League with the Maine Red Claws. As a player Marshall averaged 11.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in 15 seasons in the NBA and earned Big East Player of the Year and consensus All-America honors as a junior at UConn in Marshall averaged 25.1 points per game, leading the Huskies to 29 wins in 94, including an 18-point win over Rider in the NCAA Tournament. John Griffin, the Director of Basketball Operations at Rider last year, is now an assistant coach. Griff graduated from Bucknell in 2008 as a 1,000-point scorer, including 220 three-pointers, playing in 127 games. He took his shooting overseas and played professionally in Germany, England, Slovakia and Italy, before beginning his coaching career at Rider. Paul Johnson 06 returns to his alma mater this year as the Director of Basketball Operations. Johnson played 113 games for the Broncs and has also coached at his other alma mater, Salem High School (VA) and most recently at Virginia Wesleyan College, helping the Marlins reach the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in Associate head coach Mike Witcoskie returns for his eighth season on the Bronc staff Roster The Broncs have signed a pair of recruits for the season. Josh Williams of Trenton (Notre Dame High 13), a 6 6" 170 pound wing who attends St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, CT and Kenny Grant of East Orange, a 6 9", 235 pound senior forward at the Hyde School in Woodstock, CT, have signed NLIs to attend Rider in September. Williams averaged 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 3.8 blocks and 2.1 steals last year at Notre Dame. Grant averaged 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds last year as a junior.

10 Rider in 2013 MAAC Tournament The second seed, Rider lost to the seventh seed, Fairfield, in the quarterfinal round. The 42 points scored was the lowest for Rider since scoring 39 points at Withita State in Rider led with 5:30 remaining before the Stags scored the next seven points to take a lead with 3:06 left to play. That was the 11 th and final lead change of the game.fairfield was 13 of 18 (72.2) from the foul line for the game. Rider junior Nurideen Lindsey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) stepped to the free throw line with 1.2 seconds left. Lindsey made the first, and, attempting to miss the second, made it, for the final score. It marked the first time all year Rider led with 5:00 left and lost (17-1) and was just the second time this year Rider out-rebounded a team and lost (14-2). Rider in 2011 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the third seed and defeated Canisius in the quarterfinals in a game that ended after midnight. Brandon Penn compiled 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Anthony Myles added 13 points. Justin Robinson also added 13 points. The victory was Rider s sixth in a row. In the semifinals Rider lost to the second seed, Iona, 83-59, as All-MAAC forward Mike Ringgold played with a sprained ankle and bruised hip and was held to just four points and two rebounds. Novar Gadson led the Broncs with 19 points. Rider in 2009 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the third seed in the 2009 MAAC tournament. Rider defeated the sixth seed, Saint Peter s, in the quarterfinals before losing to the second seed, Niagara, in double overtime. In the semifinal game, Niagara banked a 30-foot three pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Rider trailed by six points with 40 seconds left in the first overtime but rallied to send the game into a second overtime, before losing. Ryan Thompson scored 57 points in the two games and was named to the All-Tournament team. Rider in 2012 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the fifth seed and lost to the fourth seed, Fairfield, in the quarterfinals. Rider trailed with 4.2 seconds left and Fairfield fouled Jonathon Thompson before he was able to attempt a game-tying three-point shot. Thompson made the first foul shot and missed the second on purpose. A tip in attempt by Junior Fortunat hit the backboard and rim but did not fall as the buzzer sounded. Thompson finished with a career-high 19 points. A three-point field goal by Thompson with 7.4 seconds left cut the lead to After scoring just 19 points in the first half Rider shot 54 percent in the second half. Rider in 2010 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the fifth seed and upset the fourth seed, Saint Peter s in the quarterfinals. Rider led at half time. Justin Robinson, Mike Ringgold and Novar Gadson combined for 42 points and 16 rebounds. In the semifinals, the Broncs jumped out to a 12-9 lead over tournament host and top seed Siena, all 12 points by senior Ryan Thompson, and Rider led at intermission. Mike Ringgold finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds (tying a career high), four assists and four steals. Rider in 2008 MAAC Tournament The Broncs suffered injuries to three starters in the first game of the 2008 MAAC tournament, but still managed to defeat the tenth seed, Canisius, 75-71, in the quarterfinals.
