3 D-Fence When Opportunity Knocks Rider s emphasis on defense this year is obvious in the MAAC statistics. Through 33 games this season Rider first in three-point field goal percentage defense, second in overall field goal percentage defense, third in blocks, fourth in defensive rebounds and fourth in points allowed. 6-2 Start Best in 5 Years The Broncs began MAAC play 6-2 this year for the first time since the season when the Broncs began MAAC play BracketBuster Rider defeated Charleston Southern University in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBuster game The CSU Buccaneers compete in the Big South Conference. The Broncs are now 4-4 in BracketBuster games, having defeated Delaware (2011), UMBC (2009) and Cal State Northridge (2008) while losing to Albany (2012), Hofstra (2010), Murray State (2007) and Northeastern (2006). Junior Tommy Pereira made three of four three-point field goal attempts off the bench Tuesday in Rider s win at Hartford. Pereira made the best of his first two collegiate starts ealier this year. He scored 17 points to lead Rider to victory at Saint Peter s January 17. The Brit sharpshooter made five of nine three-pointers, many in crucial times. In the win over Iona he scored a team-high 14 points, making four three-pointers and grabbed a careerhigh 5 rebounds. Pereira was thrown into the starting lineup due to an injury to 18-game starter Nurideen Lindsey. Defending the 3 Ball Rider is currently 18th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 29.6 percent. As of January 24 the Broncs ranked ninth in the nation, holding opponents to 27.7 percent from threepoint range. H M M b L M N 2 Where was the Love Boat? The Broncs took part in the Hoops for Hope Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Thanksgiving Week. Puerto Vallarta was a frequent stop for television s Love Boat back in the 1970s. The Classic began November 19 at South Carolina and featured stops at SMU November 21 before playing Jacksonville November 23 and UW Milwaukee November 25. South of the Border Rider played in the Cancun Challenge in , losing at Virginia and at Kentucky before traveling to Mexico, where Rider defeated Florida A&M and lost to Sam Houston State in Cancun. This year Rider lost at South Caroolina and at SMU on its way to Puerto Vallarta, where the Broncs defeated Jacksonville and UW Milwaukee. All-Tournament Team Rider junior guard Anthony Myles was named to the Hoops for Hope All Tournament team along with Nick Russell of SMU, Anthony Downing of Missouri State, LaKeen Jackson of South Carolina and Will Neighbour of Arkansas Little Rock.

4 Bronc Briefs **Rider is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, between Princeton and Trenton, between New York City and Philadelphia. **Rider is in its 16 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. **Rider began the season ranked 21 st in the nation among Mid-Majors according to CollegeInsider.com **The Broncs advanced to the MAAC Championship Game in 2008 and were selected to play in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational. ** Rider won a program-record 59 games between 2009 and Rider in Season Openers The Broncs won the season opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. Rider won the season opener at Mississippi State, but has lost the last two. The Broncs lost the opener last season at Robert Morris. Rider is 4-7 in the last 11 season openers. Rider lost the season opener at UMass. Rider lost the opener at St. Joseph s and the opener at Murray State. In Rider lost the opener at NJIT. The Broncs lost to Bucknell in both the and openers. Rider beat Brown in the opener and beat Monmouth in the season opener. Home Sweet Home-Rider in Broncs Zoo The Broncs have won 159 of their last 221 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.719), finishing 9-5 this year. Rider was 8-5 at home last year. Rider was 9-5 at home in In and the Broncs put together back-to-back 11-2 home records. The season was the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2, which included three wins in the Northeast Conference Championship tournament. Percentage-wise, was the best year in the Broncs Zoo, as Rider went 9-1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both and Ready For Prime Time Rider is 3-3 on national broadcasts (3-2 ESPN3, 0-1 ESPN) so far this year. Last year the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television. Rider in Home Openers The Broncs won the home opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. The Broncs lost to Drexel in Alumni Gym at 6am on November 15, 2011 in the first home game last year. Rider won five home openers in a row before that and has won 14 of the last 17 home openers. 5 Head Coach Kevin Baggett Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I level as an assistant. Baggett was an assistant for two years at Rider before being named Associate Head Coach in Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph s University team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph s in June, Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Rider in Exhibitions Rider defeated nationally ranked Division III Scranton on November 3. In that game Daniel Stewart and Junior Fortunat combined for 29 points and 21 rebounds. The Broncs defeated Division II East Stroudsburg last season in an exhibition game. In Rider played Division III TCNJ and won 80-42, In the Broncs beat Division II West Chester and Rider beat East Stroudsburg prior to the season. Old Building, New Look When the Rider campus moved from downtown Trenton to the suburbs of Lawrenceville 53 years ago, the first building that was built on the old Pate Farm was The Alumni Gymnasium. The 1958 commencement officially opened the new building. Most of the original floor still remained until a heavy rain storm flooded the building during the summer of 2009 and a new floor was inserted during September and October. The new floor was first used November 4, The building also had the original heating system until the summer of 2012 when The Broncs Zoo was refurbished. And Away We Go Rider is 10-9 on the road this year, 8-8 in away games and 2-1 in neutral site games. The Broncs were 5-10 in away games last season, not including 0-3 on neutral court. Rider was 11-6 in away games in The Broncs finished the regular season 8-8 on the road. The Broncs finished 7-8 on the road in , including the postseason game at Liberty and were 5-4 in the MAAC. Rider finished the regular season 9-5 in away games in and was 3-2 on neutral court for a 12-7 record away from Alumni Gym. The Broncs were 7-9 on the road in Rider in Non-Conference Games Rider is 7-7 in non-conference games this year, 2-0 vs. NEC, 1-0 vs. Atlantic Sun, 1-0 vs. Horizon, 1-0 vs. Big South, 1-1 vs CAA, 0-1 vs. the SEC, 0-1 vs. Atlantic 10, 0-1 vs. Conference USA, 0-1 Ivy, 0-1 vs BIG EAST and 1-1 vs. America East. The Broncs were 3-10 in non-conference games last year. Rider was 9-4 in non-conference games in The Broncs finished the regular season 7-6 in non-conference games in The Broncs were 6-6 in non-conference games in , including the postseason game at Liberty. Rider defeated Florida A&M November 24, 2009 in a 10am tip off. On November 23, 2007 the Broncs defeated Penn State in the Old Spice Classic at Disney World in a game that began at 10:30am. Last season Rider lost to Drexel in a 6am tip as part of the ESPN Marathon.

6 Thompson/Stewart Top 10/Top 15 Senior Jonathon Thompson has cracked the top ten in career assists and junior Daniel Stewart has cracked the top 15 in career rebounding. Thompson now has 370 career assists, eighth most ever at Rider. Stewart now has 693 career rebounds, 13 th most ever at Rider. Stewart also has 960 career points and Thompson has 932. MAAC Honors Jonathon Thompson was named the MAAC Player of the Week for all games played the final week of the regular season. Dainiel Stewart was named the MAAC Player of the Week for all games played January 7-13, Nuri Lindsey was named the MAAC Player of the Week for all games played the opening week of the season. Five in a Row Rider enjoyed two different five game winning streaks this year. The last time the Broncs won six in a row was when Rider won the final five games of the season and a MAAC Tournament game for a six-game winning streak. Philadelphia to Oklahoma to Queens to New Jersey Nurideen Lindsey took a different route to Rider. After compiling over 1300 points at Overbrook High without playing as a senior, Lindsey finished sixth in the nation (NJCAA) in scoring at Redlands Community College, averaging 22.3 points per game. At St. John s last year he averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists, starting the first nine games of the season before transferring to Rider. Junior Varsity Junior Fortunat suffered a concussion in practice on January 26 and missed two games but came back to compile 10 points and 6 rebounds at Marist on February 3. Fortunat attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia his junior and seniors years, but it took the native of Montreal until December 9 of last year for the NCAA to clear him to play. After missing the first nine games of the season, Fortunat entered the Rider game at Florida and just 14 seconds into his collegiate career threw down a thunderous two-handed dunk. All-MAAC Senior Jonathon Thompson was named to the Second Team All-MAAC, while junior Anthony Myles and junior Daniel Stewart were named to Third Team All-MAAC. Thompson leads Rider in scoring (12.9), assists (103), steals (50) and minutes played (33.8) and leads the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage (41.2). Stewart is fourth in the MAAC in rebounding (7.4) and seventh in field goal percentage (48.2). Stewart ranks 13 th in career rebounding with 693 and has 960 career points. Myles has made a team-high 55 three-pointers and is 16 th in the MAAC in scoring (12.4) and 18 th in rebounding (4.6). Bursis the Politician Sophomore Emerson Bursis attended the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, working as a surrogate for his grandmother, Ann Bursis, the State Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. A member of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, Bursis is an Economics and Finance double major who plans on attending law school upon graduation. Youth Be Served The Broncs have seven new faces on the roster this season and return just two starters.

7 Baggs Finalist for Two Awards Rider head basketball coach Kevin Baggett is a finalist for a two Coach of the Year Awards, the Ben Jobe Award and the Joe B. Hall award. The Joe B. Hall award is presented annually to the top first-year coach in Division I college basketball. The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top minority coach in Division I men s basketball. Coach Jobe is an icon in the history of basketball at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Thompson For Four In Rider s MAAC game at Iona February 9, senior Jonathon Thompson was fouled while making a threepoint field goal, and made the foul shot for a rare fourpoint play. The very next game, a victory over Saint Peter s, Thompson again was fouled while making a three-pointer and made the foul shot for another fourpoint play. Stewart From Three Daniel Stewart played his 90 th game on February 3 and made his first three-point field goal. Sibling Rivalry The Stewart brothers, junior Daniel and freshman Derrick, are the third set of brothers to play for Rider in the last five years, joining the Mansell brothers, Harris 09 and Patrick 11, and the Thompson brothers, Jason 08 and Ryan 10. The Thompson brothers compiled 3919 points and 1905 rebounds at Rider. Jason was the 12 th player selected in the 2008 NBA draft and has played 300 games for the Sacramento Kings. Ryan played in the NBA D league before heading to Italy and is now playing in Belgium. Harris Mansell graduated with over 1300 points while Patrick was a three-point specialist off the bench. With Daniel as a senior and Derrick a sophomore, Neumann-Goretti High School was 30-1 and ranked second in the nation in First Year Head Broncs In his first season as head coach Kevin Baggett has compiled 19 wins to date. In their first year as Rider head coaches, Clair Bee won 19 games in , Robert Greenwood won 20 games in , Dick Harter won 16 games in , Don Harnum won 18 games in and after an interim year Tommy Dempsey won 16 games in Coach wins first year Robert Greenwood Kevin Baggett Clair Bee Don Harnum Dick Harter Tommy Dempsey Zedric The Entertainer Zedric Sadler made a three-point field goal with 15 seconds left to give Rider a lead in the win at Canisius in the regular season finale. Sadler was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for all games played February Sadler compiled a career-high 16 points in a win over Saint Peter s and made a big three-point field goal with 2:00 left to give Rider a lead in the win over Marist. Despite making just one start, Sadler is now fourth on the team in minutes played. Consistent Over the last seven seasons, Rider s 130 win total is the Most in the Metropolitan New York/New Jersey area, ahead of LIU (127), Seton Hall (115) and Hofstra (113). It is the third highest total among MAAC teams, behind Fairfield (133) and Siena (132). Consistent, Part 2 Over the last 16 years (since Rider joined the MAAC), the Broncs are in conference games, a winning percentage of.566. Only Iona (.593) and Siena (.592) have a better all-time winning percentage in MAAC games.

8 ECU This Year East Carolina of Conference USA defeated Savannah State in the first round of the CIT on Tuesday in a game played in Greenville. The Pirates lost to Tulsa in the C-USA Tournament in Tulsa, after winning five of their last seven regular season games. East Carolina is led by senior forward Maurice Kemp, a first Team All- Conference USA selection this year. Kemp is averaging 18.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Senior guard Miguel Paul was a Second Team All-C-USA and is averaging 13.1 points and 6.9 assists per game. Junior guard Akeem Richmond comes in off the bench to add 11.4 points per game, making over three 3- pointers per contest to lead C-USA. ECU Head Coach The Pirates are led for the third year by Jeff Lebo, the former UNC player whose Tar Heels teams were He has been a head coach at Auburn, Tennessee- Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech. At Tech he was a three-time OVC coach of the Year. Before coaching Lebo spent one season in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs. Rider vs. ECU The Broncs and Pirates have never met in men s basketball. Rider Alumni Former Broncs you may have heard of: Jason Thompson 08. Graduated from Rider in 2008 and was the 12 th player picked in the 2008 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. Jason has played 350 NBA games. He is a career 50 percent field goal shooter and has shot over 66 percent from the foul line. He has averaged 7.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists, along with his 10.5 ppg average. At Rider Thompson played 122 games and compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds. Richard Digger Phelps 64. Played basketball and golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider varsity sports in and coached football, basketball and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won National Championships. A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the threesecond rule. Dick Kuchen 66. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in rebounds and was fifth in career scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale. Harry Gamble 52 Captained the last football team at Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in 1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World Champion Cincinnati Reds. r s Jack Madden 65. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5 as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team. Went on to enjoy a long career as an NBA referee, including 25 NBA championship series games.

9 Rider in MAAC This is Rider s 16 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Rider is in conference play since joining the MAAC, including 12-6 this year. The.560 winning percentage is the third highest all-time winning percentage in conference play. Iona is first at.597, followed by Siena at.585. After Rider is Niagara is.547, Fairfield is.478, Manhattan.474, Saint Peter s.452, Marist.439, Canisius.397 and Loyola is.361 Rider in MAAC , second , seventh , seventh , fourth , first , seventh , fifth , first , tenth , seventh , first , third , fifth , tied for second , fifth , second Total Broncs in MAAC Stats In MAAC statistics at the end of the regular season Jonathon Thompson is first in three-point field goal percentage, seventh in steals, sixth in assist-turnover ratio, fourth in field goal percentage, 10th in assists and 15th in scoring, Daniel Stewart is fourth in rebounding, 13th in blocks, 15th in free throw percentage, seventh in field goal percentage and 21st in scoring. Dera ND Ezuma is seventh in blocked shots, Tommy Pereira is 12th in threepoint field goal percentage, Anthony Myles is 15th in three-pointers made, 18th in rebounds and 16th in scoring, Nurideen Lindsey is 14th in steals, 14th in field goal percentage and 28th in scoring, Rider in Post Season This is Rider s fourth postseason tournament in the last six years. In 2011 Rider played Northern Iowa in the CIT. In 2009 the Broncs played Liberty in the CIT. In 2008 Rider played Old Dominion in the CBI. In 1998 Rider received its first-ever National Invitation Tournament bid and traveled to Penn State. In 1993 Rider won the Northeast Conference and played Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament in Nashville. In 1994 Rider won the NEC and played Connecticut in the NCAAs on Long Island. The Broncs won the East Coast Conference Championship in 1984 and played Richmond in the opening round of the NCAAs at the Palestra.

10 Rider in 2013 MAAC Tournament The second seed, Rider lost to the seventh seed, Fairfield, in the quarterfinal round. The 42 points scored was the lowest for Rider since scoring 39 points at Withita State in Rider led with 5:30 remaining before the Stags scored the next seven points to take a lead with 3:06 left to play. That was the 11 th and final lead change of the game.fairfield was 13 of 18 (72.2) from the foul line for the game. Rider junior Nurideen Lindsey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) stepped to the free throw line with 1.2 seconds left. Lindsey made the first, and, attempting to miss the second, made it, for the final score. It marked the first time all year Rider led with 5:00 left and lost (17-1) and was just the second time this year Rider out-rebounded a team and lost (14-2). Rider in 2011 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the third seed and defeated Canisius in the quarterfinals in a game that ended after midnight. Brandon Penn compiled 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Anthony Myles added 13 points. Justin Robinson also added 13 points. The victory was Rider s sixth in a row. In the semifinals Rider lost to the second seed, Iona, 83-59, as All-MAAC forward Mike Ringgold played with a sprained ankle and bruised hip and was held to just four points and two rebounds. Novar Gadson led the Broncs with 19 points. Rider in 2009 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the third seed in the 2009 MAAC tournament. Rider defeated the sixth seed, Saint Peter s, in the quarterfinals before losing to the second seed, Niagara, in double overtime. In the semifinal game, Niagara banked a 30-foot three pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Rider trailed by six points with 40 seconds left in the first overtime but rallied to send the game into a second overtime, before losing. Ryan Thompson scored 57 points in the two games and was named to the All-Tournament team. Rider in 2012 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the fifth seed and lost to the fourth seed, Fairfield, in the quarterfinals. Rider trailed with 4.2 seconds left and Fairfield fouled Jonathon Thompson before he was able to attempt a game-tying three-point shot. Thompson made the first foul shot and missed the second on purpose. A tip in attempt by Junior Fortunat hit the backboard and rim but did not fall as the buzzer sounded. Thompson finished with a career-high 19 points. A three-point field goal by Thompson with 7.4 seconds left cut the lead to After scoring just 19 points in the first half Rider shot 54 percent in the second half. Rider in 2010 MAAC Tournament The Broncs were the fifth seed and upset the fourth seed, Saint Peter s in the quarterfinals. Rider led at half time. Justin Robinson, Mike Ringgold and Novar Gadson combined for 42 points and 16 rebounds. In the semifinals, the Broncs jumped out to a 12-9 lead over tournament host and top seed Siena, all 12 points by senior Ryan Thompson, and Rider led at intermission. Mike Ringgold finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds (tying a career high), four assists and four steals. Rider in 2008 MAAC Tournament The Broncs suffered injuries to three starters in the first game of the 2008 MAAC tournament, but still managed to defeat the tenth seed, Canisius, 75-71, in the quarterfinals.
