3 Where was the Love Boat? The Broncs took part in the Hoops for Hope Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Thanksgiving Week. Puerto Vallarta was a frequent stop for television s Love Boat back in the 1970s. The Classic began November 19 at South Carolina and featured stops at SMU November 21 before playing Jacksonville November 23 and UW Milwaukee November 25. South of the Border Rider played in the Cancun Challenge in , losing at Virginia and at Kentucky before traveling to Mexico, where Rider defeated Florida A&M and lost to Sam Houston State in Cancun. This year Rider lost at South Caroolina and at SMU on its way to Puerto Vallarta, where the Broncs defeated Jacksonville and UW Milwaukee. H M M b L M N 2 All-Tournament Team Rider junior guard Anthony Myles was named to the Hoops for Hope All Tournament team along with Nick Russell of SMU, Anthony Downing of Missouri State, LaKeen Jackson of South Carolina and Will Neighbour of Arkansas Little Rock.

4 Fairfield This Year The Stags opened MAAC play Friday night with a loss at home to Canisius. Canisius held Fairfield scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the second half while building a lead. Fairfield spent the first three-plus weeks of the season on the road, traveling more than 5,000 miles to play its first eight games. The road trip included stops in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Illinois, and Tennessee. The Stags split their opening eight games, which included match ups with Virginia, Providence, and DePaul. The last game of the trip resulted in a win over Austin Peay University, the Stags largest margin of victory this season. Rider vs. Fairfield The Broncs played Fairfield three times last year, defeating the Stags here in Alumni Gym in the regular season finale before losing to Fairfield by two points in the MAAC quarterfinals. Rider lost by 9 points at Fairfield last season. These two teams have met 50 times since the series began in , with Rider winning 23, including seven of the last 12. Rider is against Fairfield since joining the MAAC, including a postseason win in the 2005 MAAC semifinals. Fairfield Last Year The Stags lost to Loyola by four points in the 2012 MAAC Title Game and won three home games in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament before losing by five points to Mercer in the CIT semifinal. Fairfield finished the season with a record. Head Stag Fairfield is coached for the second year by Sydney Johnson, who spent four years as the head coach at Princeton. A Princeton graduate, Johnson compiled a record at his alma mater with one NCAA tournament appearance and one appearance in the CBI. He took Fairfield to the CIT last season. At Princeton he was the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2009 and He was an assistant at Georgetown for 10 years, advancing to two NCAA Tournament. He also went to two NCAA Tournaments as a player at Princeton, 1996 and He was the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1997 and played professionally in Italy. Associate Head Stag A familiar face to some of the long timers at Rider is now on the Fairfield coaching staff. Tony Newsome was the assistant coach at Rider from and spent seven years as an assistant at Princeton before going to Fairfield with Coach Johnson. Between Rider and Princeton Newsome was at Holy Cross.

5 Bronc Briefs **Rider is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, between Princeton and Trenton, between New York City and Philadelphia. **Rider is in its 16 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. **Rider began the season ranked 21 st in the nation among Mid-Majors according to CollegeInsider.com **The Broncs advanced to the MAAC Championship Game in 2008 and were selected to play in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational. ** Rider won a program-record 59 games between 2009 and Rider in Season Openers The Broncs won the season opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. Rider won the season opener at Mississippi State, but has lost the last two. The Broncs lost the opener last season at Robert Morris. Rider is 4-7 in the last 11 season openers. Rider lost the season opener at UMass. Rider lost the opener at St. Joseph s and the opener at Murray State. In Rider lost the opener at NJIT. The Broncs lost to Bucknell in both the and openers. Rider beat Brown in the opener and beat Monmouth in the season opener. Home Sweet Home-Rider in Broncs Zoo The Broncs have won 152 of their last 211 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.726), including 2-2 this year and 8-5 last year. Rider was 9-5 at home in In and the Broncs put together backto-back 11-2 home records. The season was the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2, which included three wins in the Northeast Conference Championship tournament. Percentage-wise, was the best year in the Broncs Zoo, as Rider went 9-1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both and Ready For Prime Time Rider is 0-1 on national (ESPN) TV so far this year. Last year the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television. Rider in Home Openers The Broncs won the home opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. The Broncs lost to Drexel in Alumni Gym at 6am on November 15, 2011 in the first home game last year. Rider won five home openers in a row before that and has won 14 of the last 17 home openers. ESPN3 On January 10, January 17, February 9 and February 17 Rider will play on ESPN3. ESPN3 is ESPN s live multiscreen sports network, a 24/7 destination that delivers thousands of global sports events annually and accessible online via WatchESPN.com. 6 Head Coach Kevin Baggett Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I level as an assistant. Baggett was an assistant for two years at Rider before being named Associate Head Coach in Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph s University team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph s in June, Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Rider in Exhibitions Rider defeated nationally ranked Division III Scranton on November 3. In that game Daniel Stewart and Junior Fortunat combined for 29 points and 21 rebounds. The Broncs defeated Division II East Stroudsburg last season in an exhibition game. In Rider played Division III TCNJ and won 80-42, In the Broncs beat Division II West Chester and Rider beat East Stroudsburg prior to the season. Old Building, New Look When the Rider campus moved from downtown Trenton to the suburbs of Lawrenceville 53 years ago, the first building that was built on the old Pate Farm was The Alumni Gymnasium. The 1958 commencement officially opened the new building. Most of the original floor still remained until a heavy rain storm flooded the building during the summer of 2009 and a new floor was inserted during September and October. The new floor was first used November 4, The building also had the original heating system until the summer of 2012 when The Broncs Zoo was refurbished. And Away We Go Rider is 4-2 on the road this year, 2-2 in away games and 2-0 in neutral site games. The Broncs were 5-10 in away games last season, not including 0-3 on neutral court. Rider was 11-6 in away games in The Broncs finished the regular season 8-8 on the road. The Broncs finished 7-8 on the road in , including the postseason game at Liberty and were 5-4 in the MAAC. Rider finished the regular season 9-5 in away games in and was 3-2 on neutral court for a 12-7 record away from Alumni Gym. The Broncs were 7-9 on the road in Rider in Non-Conference Games Rider is 5-4 in non-conference games this year, 2-0 vs. NEC, 1-0 vs. Atlantic Sun, 1-0 vs. Horizon, 1-0 vs CAA, 0-1 vs. the SEC, 0-1 vs. Atlantic 10, 0-1 vs. Conference USA and 0-1 vs. America East. Last season Rider lost to Drexel in a 6am tip as part of the ESPN Marathon.

7 Youth Be Served The Broncs have seven new faces on the roster this season and return just two starters. 700/500 for Stewart Daniel Stewart compiled his 500th career point in his 53rd game and collected both his 700th points and 500th rebound in his 75th game, Rider s win at Drexel. Stewart now has 707 career points and 514 rebounds. Bursis the Politician Sophomore Emerson Bursis attended the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, working as a surrogate for his grandmother, Ann Bursis, the State Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. A member of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, Bursis is an Economics and Finance double major who plans on attending law school upon graduation. Veteran Jon Thom Senior point guard Jonathon Thompson, no relation to Jason 08 and Ryan 10, is a veteran of 104 Rider games and has compiled 304 assists (14th most ever at Rider) and just 162 turnovers. Last season he played over 32 minutes per game, a team-high. He ended on a high note, compiling 77 points, 18 assists and 19 rebounds in the last five games of the season, including a career-high 19 points in MAAC quarterfinal vs. Fairfield.. Sibling Rivalry The Stewart brothers, junior Daniel and freshman Derrick, are the third set of brothers to play for Rider in the last five years, joining the Mansell brothers, Harris 09 and Patrick 11, and the Thompson brothers, Jason 08 and Ryan 10. The Thompson brothers compiled 3919 points and 1905 rebounds at Rider. Jason was the 12 th player selected in the 2008 NBA draft and has played 300 games for the Sacramento Kings. Ryan played in the NBA D league before heading to Italy and is now playing in Belgium. Harris Mansell graduated with over 1300 points while Patrick was a three-point specialist off the bench. With Daniel as a senior and Derrick a sophomore, Neumann-Goretti High School was 30-1 and ranked second in the nation in Myles to Go...to Free Throw Line Anthony Myles shot a team-high.862 from the foul line as a sophomore, after shooting just.537 from the line as a freshman. Myles put together back-to-back 20 point games to start the season, at Robert Morris and at Pitt, making nine of 10 foul shots. Junior Varsity Junior Fortunat attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia his junior and seniors years, but it took the native of Montreal until December 9 of last year for the NCAA to clear him to play. After missing the first nine games of the season, Fortunat entered the Rider game at Florida and just 14 seconds into his collegiate career threw down a thunderous two-handed dunk. Philadelphia to Oklahoma to Queens to New Jersey Nurideen Lindsey took a different route to Rider. After compiling over 1300 points at Overbrook High without playing as a senior, Lindsey finished sixth in the nation (NJCAA) in scoring at Redlands Community College, averaging 22.3 points per game. At St. John s last year he averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists, starting the first nine games of the season before transferring to Rider. MAAC Honors Nuri Lindsey was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played the opening week of the season. Lindsey compiled 26 points and five assists in his Rider debut, leading the Broncs to victory over Robert Morris in the season opener. Giving Thanks for ComcastSportsNet On Thanksgiving, ComcastSportsNet ran a feature story on Rider junior Nuri Lindsey and the trials and tribulations he has endured on his way to Rider.

8 r s Consistent Over the last six seasons, Rider s 111 wins is the most in the Metropolitan New York/New Jersey area, ahead of LIU (107), Hofstra (106) and Seton Hall (100), and the third most in the MAAC, behind Siena (124) and Fairfield (114). Consistent, Part 2 Since joining the MAAC in 1998, Rider has compiled a record of in conference games, a winning percentage of.559. Only conference members Iona (.593) and Siena (.592) have better all-time winning percentages in MAAC games. Last Time Out Anthony Myles and John Thompson combined for 32 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block to lead Rider to a victory at Siena to begin MAAC play Friday night. Daniel Stewart grabbed 10 rebounds and Nurideen Lindsey added 11 points and a pair of steals. Zedric Sadler led Rider on a 14-4 firsthalf run that gave the Broncs a 2-16 lead and Rider never trailed again. Sadler finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, a pair of blocks, an assist and a steal in 17 minutes of work. Next Time Out Rider finishes up the non-conference portion of the schedule with local road trips to Princeton, Rutgers and Delaware. The Broncs visit the cross-town Tigers Thursday. 6-4, 7-4 This year s start is the best since Rider began the season 6-4 overall. The last time Rider was 7-4 was when the Broncs began the season 8-4. Rider Alumni Former Broncs you may have heard of: Jason Thompson 08. Graduated from Rider in 2008 and was the 12 th player picked in the 2008 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. Jason has played in close to 300 NBA games. He is a career 49 percent field goal shooter and has shot over 66 percent from the foul line. He has averaged 7.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists, along with his 10.5 ppg average. At Rider Thompson played 122 games and compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds. Richard Digger Phelps 64. Played basketball and golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider varsity sports in and coached football, basketball and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won National Championships. A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the threesecond rule. Dick Kuchen 66. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in rebounds and was fifth in career scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale. Harry Gamble 52 Captained the last football team at Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in 1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World Champion Cincinnati Reds. Jack Madden 65. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5 as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team. Went on to enjoy a long career as an NBA referee, including 25 NBA championship series games.
