FORD STADIUM / DALLAS, TEXAS TCU Sept. 15, 2018 Arlington, Texas 7 p.m. ABC SOUTHERN 7 TCU 55 FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Shawn Robinson is in a much different position for No. 16 TCU this season. He will remain the No. 1 quarterback as long as he is producing on the field. The dual-threat sophomore, who won his only start last year filling in for an injured senior, is now 2-0. Robinson threw touchdowns to three different receivers and ran for two more scores while playing only the first half as No. 16 TCU opened the season with a 55-7 win over Southern University. Robinson led the Horned Frogs to scores on their first six drives to take a 38-7 lead before fellow sophomore Michael Collins, a transfer from Penn, took over after halftime. Derius Davis caught a 12-yard TD from Robinson and the true freshman later returned a punt 73 yards for a score as the Horned Frogs won their 17th consecutive home opener as head coach Gary Patterson started his 18th full season. TCU got a field goal on its opening drive before Robinson, who completed 17 of 24 passes for 182 yards, accounted for touchdowns on the next five drives. He scored on his only two rushing plays from 36 and 9 yards. Collins was 3 of 5 passing with a 57-yard TD to TreVontae Hights. Robinson also threw TD passes to Taye Barber (6 yards), another true freshman, and Jalen Reagor (12 yards). TCU 42 SMU 12 DALLAS (AP) -- KaVontae Turpin ignited TCU by returning a punt 78 yards for a touchdown before adding a 42-yard scoring catch, and the 16th-ranked Horned Frogs pulled away for a rain-soaked victory over SMU. The start of the game Friday night between former Southwest Conference foes was delayed nearly two hours by lightning, and a steady rain fell until halftime. The Horned Frogs secured their first seven-game winning streak in the 98-game Iron Skillet series after midnight. The Mustangs (0-2) led 9-0 early in the first home game for coach Sonny Dykes, but had just 167 yards total offense after Braeden West s 51-yard scoring run on the fifth play of the game. TCU took control when Alec Dunham picked up a fumble by SMU quarterback Ben Hicks after a sack by Ben Banogu and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. The sealing TD came when Turpin caught a short pass, ran through the middle of the secondary and split three defenders near the goal line. Turpin, who set school records with his fifth career special teams TD and fourth on a punt return, finished with 176 all-purpose yards.
