9 TCU vs. Baylor Sept. 18, 2010 Fort Worth, Texas 3:30 p.m. CDT 9 FROG DEFENSIVE NOTES STINGY D TCU has led the nation in total defense each of the last two years and four times in the last 10 seasons. Since the NCAA began tracking statistics in 1937, TCU is tied with Alabama and Auburn for the most No. 1 rankings in total defense at four. All four of the Frogs' top marks (2000, 2002, 2008, 2009) are under Gary Patterson. He was TCU's defensive coordinator before being named head coach. Since 2000, TCU's first of four team defensive titles, Virginia Tech is the only other school to finish first more than once (2005, 2006). The Frogs, Hokies and Miami, Fla. (1989, 1994) are the only teams to win the crown at least twice since CONTINUING A TRADITION TCU is allowing just yards per game this season. It ranks eighth nationally but is also the best mark during the 10- year tenure of head coach Gary Patterson. The previous-best average for a TCU defense under Patterson was its nation-leading yards per game mark in HOLDING BEAVERS AT BAY TCU surrendered just 255 yards to Oregon State. Star running back Jacquizz Rodgers was held to 75 yards rushing on 18 carries. Older brother and standout wide receiver James Rodgers was limited to four receptions. Daniels recorded both of TCU s sacks against Oregon State for the first two-sack game of his career. Daniels was second on last year s TCU team with 5 1/2 sacks. He entered this year with 6 1/2 sacks in three seasons. MAKING PLAYS Five of Wayne Daniels seven tackles are behind the line of scrimmage. His 5.0 tackles for loss has him tied for fifth in the nation. All three of Daniels tackles against Oregon State were for a loss. Daniels had two sacks in addition to a stop for loss. FROG FEVER TCU has sold 19,020 football season tickets this year, shattering the previous school record of 14,490 in When including the student allotment, this year s total is 25,175. PACKING THEM IN The crowd of 50,307 for last year s Utah contest set a TCU single-game home attendance record. The previous mark was 47,280 against Texas on Nov. 17, An estimated 7,500 filled TCU s Campus Commons earlier in the day when ESPN s College GameDay brought its show to Fort Worth. The 41,738 at the home finale against New Mexico gave TCU an average attendance of 46,023 for its last two home dates, above the listed capacity of 44,358 for Amon G. Carter Stadium. Over 20,000 TCU fans made the trip to Arizona in January for the Fiesta Bowl. SEASON OPENERS With its season debut against Oregon State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TCU opened away from home for the eighth time in 10 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson. The Frogs have won their last eight season openers. It's the second-longest streak in TCU history for season-opening victories, trailing only the 17 in a row from TCU is 8-2 in season debuts under Patterson. Overall, the Frogs are in openers. TCU has surrendered just seven touchdowns and 55 points in its past six openers. Both of Virginia s touchdowns last season came in the final 4:14 after the Frogs built a 30-0 lead. THE RANKED The Oregon State game marked just the second time in TCU history that both the Frogs and their opponent were ranked when meeting in a season opener. The only other such occasion came on Sept. 20, 1952, when ninth-ranked TCU lost 13-0 at No. 17 Kansas.

17 TCU vs. Baylor Sept. 18, 2010 Fort Worth, Texas 3:30 p.m. CDT 17 PLAYING STRAIGHT THROUGH For the third straight year and fourth time in six seasons, TCU will play 11 consecutive weeks to open its season. After being one of only two teams (Florida International) to have an open date the first weekend last season, TCU played 12 straight weeks. At 11-0 last season, 9-2 in 2008 and 10-1 in 2005, TCU is a combined 30-3 the last three times it played 11 straight weeks to begin its campaign. SUPER SITES Playing at a marquee venue like Cowboys Stadium in Arlington was nothing new to TCU in its season opener. In each of the last five seasons, the Frogs have played their bowl game in a facility that has hosted a Super Bowl. The Oregon State game marked TCU's 10th contest in a 57-game stretch in a stadium that has hosted a Super Bowl or is scheduled to this season. During that span, the Frogs are a combined 9-1 at Qualcomm Stadium (5-0), Reliant Stadium (2-0), Cowboys Stadium (1-0), Stanford Stadium (1-0) and University of Phoenix Stadium (0-1). The 2010 Fiesta Bowl was held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., where Super Bowl XLII was played in 2008 between the New York Giants and New England. TCU played twice in the Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium, site of three Super Bowls (XXII, Denver vs. Washington, 1988; XXXII, Denver vs. Green Bay, 1998; XXXVII, Oakland vs. Tampa Bay, 2003). The Frogs were at Reliant Stadium for the 2005 Houston Bowl and 2007 Texas Bowl. Reliant Stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 between Carolina and New England. STAR WATCH Four former TCU standouts now in the NFL were on the Frogs sideline during the Oregon State game: Clint Gresham (Seattle), Stephen Hodge (Dallas), Jerry Hughes (Indianapolis) and Daryl Washington (Arizona). HOME OPENERS TCU has won nine straight home openers under head coach Gary Patterson. In six of those victories, the Frogs allowed 13 points or less. The Frogs are 9-1 in home openers under Patterson. BRING ON DAYLIGHT AND SATURDAYS The Frogs are 25-1 in day games over the last six seasons and at night. The NCAA constitutes a night game as starting at 5 p.m. or later. TCU is 49-4 in Saturday contests dating back to the start of the 2005 campaign and 53-5 overall when playing on any day of the week other than Thursday. During their run of success on Saturdays, the Frogs are 6-7 on other days of the week (1-0 on Sundays, 0-1 on Mondays, 2-0 on Tuesdays, 2-6 on Thursdays, 1-0 on Fridays). Six of TCU's 11 losses over the last six years have been on Thursdays. TCU s two wins on Tuesdays both came in the Poinsettia Bowl (2006 and 2008).
