The teams met Nov. 11 last season in Norman and again Dec. 2 in the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington. 4Over the last five seasons, (47-12, 32-7) and TCU (43-16, 27-12) have the Big 12 s best overall and conference records. 4Dating back to its home win over No. 3 in 2014, TCU is 5-5 in its last 10 games versus top-10 ranked teams. 4Before last season s two games, the first five meetings ( ) between TCU and as Big 12 rivals saw each game decided by seven points or less. 4The Horned Frogs will be playing their seventh consecutive game in Texas to open the season. In addition to Saturday being its fourth home date, TCU had contests in Dallas, Arlington and Austin. 4TCU is in regular-season games following a loss under Gary Patterson. PROTECTING THE CARTER 4TCU had an eight-game home winning streak snapped in last week s loss to Texas Tech. 4The Horned Frogs are in 18 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium. 4TCU went 6-0 in Amon G. Carter Stadium last season for its third perfect campaign at home in the last four seasons. SERIES HISTORY 4 holds a 13-5 series lead over TCU. 4 The Horned Frogs are 2-6 versus the Sooners in Fort Worth, 3-5 in Norman, 0-1 in City and 0-1 in Arlington (2017 Big 12 Championship Game). 4The first game in the series was a Sooners win in City in TCU s win at No. 5 in the 2005 season opener was its first victory over an opponent ranked that high since a 6-0 decision at No. 1 Texas in The 10 points by OU marked its fewest in a home game under former head coach Bob Stoops. REMEMBER ME 4TCU co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Sonny Cumbie and head coach Lincoln Riley were teammates during the spring and summer of 2003 at Texas Tech. Riley was then a student assistant/offense during Cumbie s final two seasons ( ) as a player for the Red Raiders. TCU NOTABLES 4TCU is one of just five programs nationally to finish in the top 10 of the final polls at least three times in the last four seasons. TCU will stay in the same Fort Worth hotel for nine of its 12 games. 4TCU is in the midst of a $100 million premium seating expansion of Amon G. Carter Stadium. Completion will be in time for the 2019 season. 4Other than Texas scoring just 0.3 points above its season mark, TCU has held all its opponents below their season scoring and total offense averages. 4TCU is No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense, scoring defense, third-down defense, passing defense, passing efficiency defense and red-zone defense. 4TCU limited Texas Tech, the nation s leader in total offense entering the game at yards per game, to 353 yards. 13 FROG TIDBITS HOME SWEET HOME 4Construction is underway, with completion in time for the 2019 season, on the $100 million Amon G. Carter Stadium premium seating expansion. The project calls for two new levels of luxury seating above the current upper deck on the east side of the stadium. The new Legends Club and Suites will include 48 loge boxes with two private clubs, over 1,000 club seats and 22 luxury suites. 4The $164 million rebuild of Amon G. Carter Stadium, completed in 2012, was funded entirely by donor support and features a seating capacity of 45,000. 4The six Founders Club suites, located at midfield on the concourse level, were sold at $15 million each to provide lead gifts totaling $90 million. 4There are 25 suites, all sold, on the west side. 4Yahoo! Sports ranked Amon G. Carter Stadium as the best stadium in the Big 12. He will remain the No. 1 quarterback as long as he is producing on the field. The dual-threat sophomore, who won his only start last year filling in for an injured senior, is now 2-0. Robinson threw touchdowns to three different receivers and ran for two more scores while playing only the first half as No. 16 TCU opened the season with a 55-7 win over Southern University. Robinson led the Horned Frogs to scores on their first six drives to take a 38-7 lead before fellow sophomore Michael Collins, a transfer from Penn, took over after halftime. Derius Davis caught a 12-yard TD from Robinson and the true freshman later returned a punt 73 yards for a score as the Horned Frogs won their 17th consecutive home opener as head coach Gary Patterson started his 18th full season. TCU got a field goal on its opening drive before Robinson, who completed 17 of 24 passes for 182 yards, accounted for touchdowns on the next five drives. He scored on his only two rushing plays from 36 and 9 yards. Collins was 3 of 5 passing with a 57-yard TD to TreVontae Hights. Robinson also threw TD passes to Taye Barber (6 yards), another true freshman, and Jalen Reagor (12 yards). The start of the game Friday night between former Southwest Conference foes was delayed nearly two hours by lightning, and a steady rain fell until halftime. The Horned Frogs secured their first seven-game winning streak in the 98-game Iron Skillet series after midnight. The Mustangs (0-2) led 9-0 early in the first home game for coach Sonny Dykes, but had just 167 yards total offense after Braeden West s 51-yard scoring run on the fifth play of the game. TCU took control when Alec Dunham picked up a fumble by SMU quarterback Ben Hicks after a sack by Ben Banogu and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. The sealing TD came when Turpin caught a short pass, ran through the middle of the secondary and split three defenders near the goal line. Turpin, who set school records with his fifth career special teams TD and fourth on a punt return, finished with 176 all-purpose yards. TEXAS TECH 17 TCU 14 FORT WORTH, Texas -- A fourth-quarter touchdown run by Texas Tech quarterback Jett Duffey gave the Red Raiders a win over TCU on Thursday night at Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU held Texas Tech, the nation s leader in total offense entering the game at yards per game, to 353 yards. The Red Raiders were also tied for seventh in scoring in the FBS at 48.4 points per game and were limited to 17 points. The Horned Frogs totaled 411 yards, but couldn t overcome three turnovers. TCU got on the board early in the second quarter when Shawn Robinson delivered a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Jalen Reagor for the touchdown. It was Reagor s team-leading third touchdown of the season and put the Frogs up 7-3 with 12:14 left in the half, a lead TCU took into halftime. The Red Raiders regained the advantage midway through the third quarter when Duffey found a streaking Ja Deion High down the middle of the field for a 62-yard score to put the Red Raiders up The see-saw battle continued when TCU moved back out in front, 14-10, with an eight-play, 80-yard scoring drive, during which KaVontae Turpin accounted for 54 yards. The final 31 yards of which came on a perfectly-placed strike from Robinson. Just moments later, however, Duffey put the Red Raiders in front for good with 7:02 left in the game when he raced 38 yards up the middle for a touchdown to account for the final score. Turpin would finish the contest with 120 receiving yards on a season-high six receptions.
