Raiders Begin Second Half Of PL Schedule THE MATCHUP The Colgate University basketball team (12-8 overall, 3-4 Patriot League) begins the second half of its Patriot League schedule Saturday afternoon, when the Raiders travel to Washington, D.C. to take on first place American University (11-9. PL 5-2). Tip-off is 1 p.m. at Bender Arena. The Raiders will carry a three-game winning streak into the matchup against the Eagles, who defeated Navy in overtime in their last outing. The last three victories have come at the expense of Lafayette, Binghamton and Army. Sophomore Mark Linebaugh tied his career-high with 27 points Wednesday night against Army. He had help from senior forward Pat Campolieta who posted his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore center Howard Blue, who netted 16 points. This is the third meeting between Colgate and American with the series knotted at one apiece. Colgate won the first game in 1962, 70-69, at Cotterell Court, while the Eagles defeated the Raiders, 76-59, earlier this season on Colgate s home court. Campolieta, the first player in school history to rank in the Top 10 in career scoring (1,518), rebounding (641), assists (220) and steals (176), continues to lead Colgate in scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 15.8 points per game and 7.3 caroms per outing, which is good for third place in the Patriot League scoring and second in rebounding. With his double-double against Army, Campolieta moved into fifth place on the school s all-time scoring list and eighth place in rebounding. Linebaugh, who has posted back-to-back 20-plus scoring nights, is second in scoring with 13.0 points per game, while Blue is third with 11.2 points per game. Tim Sullivan, who is questionable for the American game with a sprained ankle, is averaging 9.3 ppg and Dave Hardy 8.5 ppg. Patrick Doctor is American s leading scorer with 12.3 points per game followed closely by Steven Miles with They are followed in the scoring column by Valdimir Buscaglia (9.1) and Glenn Stokes (8.6). THE SERIES This is the third meeting between Colgate and American with the series knotted at one apiece. Colgate won the first game in 1962, 70-69, at Cotterell Court, while the Eagles defeated the Raiders, 76-59, earlier this season on Colgate s home court. LAST TIME VS. AMERICAN (Hamilton, N.Y. - Jan. 9, 2002) - Glenn Stokes led six American University players in double figures with 15 points, as the Eagles defeated Colgate, 76-59, in the Patriot League opener for both teams. American, playing its first game in the Patriot League after 16 seasons in the Colonial Athletic Association, snapped Colgate s five-game homecourt winning streak. Also in double figures for the Eagles were Steven Miles and Vladimir Buscaglia with 12 apiece. Keith Gray, Nick Boyd and Patrick Doctor had 10 points each. Junior Dave Hardy led Colgate with 15 points, while Pat Campolieta netted 12 points and Howard Blue 10. Colgate fell behind by six points early in the contest, before coming back to tie the game at 24 with 4:04 remaining on Tim Sullivan s three-pointer. The Eagles answered with five straight points by Buscaglia and never looked back as they held a halftime lead. American scored the first eight points of the second half and lead by as many as 19 in the final seconds. The Eagles dominated the rebounding paced by Stokes with seven and Buscaglia with six. Hardy, Sullivan and Blue had three apiece for the Raiders. COLGATE S LAST OUTING (Hamilton, N.Y. - Jan. 30, 2002) - Mark Linebaugh equaled a career-high 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Colgate downed Army, 82-72, in a Patriot League game at Cotterell Court. The Raiders extended their winning streak to four straight over the Cadets, who have suffered 15 straight losses on Colgate s home court. Pat Campolieta recorded his fifth double-double of the season netting 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. En route to the double-double he moved into fifth place in career scoring with 1,518 points and eighth place in rebounding with 641. Howard Blue added 16 points for Colgate. COLGATE TO RETIRE ADONAL FOYLE S NUMBER Adonal Foyle will become the fourth player in Colgate history to have his basketball number retired during a halftime ceremony on February 9. Foyle played three seasons with the Raiders between He led Colgate to its only two appearances ever in the NCAA Tournament while earning second team All-America honors by U.S. Basketball Writers Association and third team All-America by Associated Press in Foyle finished his collegiate career as Colgate s second all-time leading scorer with 1,776 points and leading rebounder with 1,103. The two-time Patriot League Player of the Year is the NCAA all-time blocked shot leader with 492. In his last season with the Raiders, Foyle was a finalist for The John R. Wooden and USBWA Player of the Year honors. He was the eighth pick overall in Adonal Foyle the 1997 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. He is currently playing his fifth season in the NBA. But after a timeout, Northern Arizona threw the ball the length of the floor where Yazzie picked up the loose ball and fired home the game-winner from 15-feet. Howard Blue came off the bench to add 19 points while Mark Linebaugh scored 15 including 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Colgate point guard Dave Hardy added 12, including his 500th collegiate point on four-of-five shooting from behind the arc, while Martin Marek contributed 10.
