BIG NEWS. With only one weekend remaining in the regular season, four teams are s ll alive in the race for the Big Ten Championship. Michigan State enters the weekend with a one-point lead over Michigan and Minnesota, which are ed for second place. Penn State is three points back in fourth place. The top two teams in the conference standings will receive a first-round bye at the Big Ten Tournament. For the final weekend of the regular season, Minnesota and Wisconsin will host a pair of games, while Michigan and Michigan State will play a home-and-home series. Minnesota will host Penn State at Mariucci Arena, while Wisconsin will welcome Penn State to the Kohl Center. Michigan State will host Michigan in East Lansing on Friday night before heading to Ann Arbor to conclude the series on Saturday. Michigan State can clinch a share of the Big Ten Championship as early as Friday night. To do so, the Spartans would need to defeat the Wolverines in regula on or over me and the Ni any Lions would need to beat the Gophers in regula on, over me or a shootout. Depending on Friday results, as many as three teams could s ll be alive for at least a share of the Big Ten Championship on Saturday. Michigan State s Jake Hildebrand and Minnesota s Adam Wilcox are among the 28 nominees for the Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men s hockey. Hildebrand leads all Big Ten goalies this season with a.930 save percentage, 2.10 goals-against average (GAA) and six shutouts. In 14 appearances since Jan. 1, Hildebrand is with a.951 save percentage, 1.57 GAA and five shutouts. With a 4-2 win over Ohio State on Friday, Minnesota s Don Lucia earned his 391st victory as head coach of the Gophers and now stands alone with the most wins in program history. Lucia ranks fourth in wins at a Big Ten school, trailing only Michigan s Red Berenson (807 victories), Michigan State s Ron Mason (635) and Wisconsin s Jeff Sauer (489). Single-session ckets for the Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament at Joe Louis Arena are now on sale. A single-session cket starts at $20 and allows access to all Big Ten Tournament games on the corresponding day. Tickets can be purchased at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets ( ) and online at Three Big Ten teams rank among the top 10 na onally in scoring. Michigan leads all teams across the country with 3.94 goals per game. Minnesota ranks sixth with 3.47 goals per contest, while Penn State follows in seventh with 3.41 goals per game. Strong power plays account for much of this success, with each school ranking among the top five in the na on. The Gophers possess the country s best power play with a conversion rate of 29.1 percent. The Wolverines are third at 24.6 percent and the Ni any Lions are fi h at 23.1 percent. 5 BIG TEN HOCKEY WEEKLY RELEASE 5 The Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will be held March 19-21, 2015, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. The tournament will feature all six teams in a single-elimina on format. The 2015 tournament will consist of five games (two games on Thursday, March 19; two games on Friday, March 20; and the championship game on Saturday, March 21). The winner of the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will receive the conference s automa c bid to the NCAA Championship. BTN will provide live na onal coverage of all five games of the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament. The conference tournament will return to the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn., in 2016, and will be played at Joe Louis Arena in Tickets for the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament are on sale now.
