BIG NEWS. Big Ten play resumes this weekend as all six teams take the ice in conference ac on. Michigan will meet Michigan State in a home-and-home series, with Friday s contest slated for 6:30 p.m. ET in East Lansing and Saturday s game set for 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor. League-leading Minnesota will head east to visit Penn State, while Wisconsin will play host to Ohio State. Three of this weekend s games will be carried live on na onal television, including two contests on Friday and one on Saturday. Friday night will feature Michigan-Michigan State on ESPNEWS and Minnesota-Penn State on BTN. Saturday s series finale between the Wolverines and Spartans will appear on BTN. The full television and digital schedule for this weekend can be found in the right column. A pair of Big Ten squads claimed tournament tles last week. Ohio State defeated a pair of top-10 teams to win the Florida College Hockey Classic in Estero, Fla. The Buckeyes topped No. 4/4 Boston College 3-2 on Dec. 28 before defea ng No. 9/9 Cornell 8-0 on Dec. 29. Chris an Frey was named the Most Valuable Player at the tournament a er pos ng a.966 save percentage and 1.00 goals-against average. Michigan was also victorious last week, winning the 51st Annual Great Lakes Invita onal at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Wolverines Kyle Connor was named the MVP of the tournament with three points in the event, including the game-winning goal against Northern Michigan on Dec. 29. The United States claimed the bronze medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship with an 8-3 victory over Sweden on Tuesday. The team was captained by Michigan defenseman Zach Werenski, who became the second youngest player ever to captain a U.S. Na onal Junior Team. Tickets for the inaugural Super Saturday College Hoops & Hockey doubleheader, which will feature Michigan taking on Penn State in men s basketball and ice hockey at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, are now on sale to the general public. During regular-season conference games, shootouts will be u lized to decide contests that remain ed following the conclusion of the five-minute over me period. Each team will select three players with teams alterna ng shots. If the shootout remains ed at the end of three rounds, each team will select a different shooter in a sudden-death situa on. Points in the regular-season Big Ten standings will be awarded as follows: three points for a regula on or over me win, two points for a shootout win, one point for a shootout loss and no points for a regula on or over me loss. All-Session cket packages for the 2016 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament, to be held Thursday Saturday, March in Minneapolis, are now on sale. The third annual Big Ten Tournament will feature all six conference teams in a single-elimina on format and will consist of five games that will be covered live na onally by BTN. BTN will broadcast at least 22 games with the next taking place on Friday when Penn State hosts Minnesota. Highligh ng the BTN regular season schedule will be the Super Saturday - College Hoops & Hockey doubleheader on Jan. 30, when Michigan and Penn State will meet at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The network also will provide live coverage of all five games from the 2016 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament in March. ESPN will televise an addi onal six contests, including Friday s game between Michigan and Michigan State. 3 BIG TEN HOCKEY WEEKLY RELEASE 3 The Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will be held March at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. The tournament will feature all six teams in a single-elimina on format. The 2016 tournament will consist of five games (two games on Thursday, March 17; two games on Friday, March 18; and the championship game on Saturday, March 19). The winner of the 2016 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will receive the conference s automa c bid to the NCAA Championship.
