BIG NEWS. Five conference teams will take the ice this weekend, including one Big Ten series and a pair of games at Na onal Hockey League arenas. Wisconsin will host Minnesota for a pair of contests at the Kohl Center. The two teams met two weeks ago in Minneapolis with the Gophers claiming four points in that series. On Friday night, Michigan and Michigan State will meet at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, the site of the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament. On Saturday a ernoon, Penn State will head to Philadelphia to take on Vermont in non-conference ac on. A er scoring 13 mes in its series sweep of Wisconsin, Michigan raised its na on-leading scoring average to 4.36 goals per game. The Wolverines, who are averaging 6.50 goals per game in Big Ten play, have scored 30 goals in their last four contests, an average of 7.50 per game. Michigan is joined in the top 15 na onally by Penn State in eighth with 3.48 goals per contest and Minnesota in 12th with 3.23 goals per game. Five Big Ten players rank among the top 20 na onally in points per game, including a pair of Michigan linemates in the top 10. Zach Hyman leads all Big Ten skaters and ranks third in the country with 1.59 points per game, followed by fellow Wolverine Dylan Larkin in sixth with 1.45 points per contest. Penn State s Casey Bailey ranks 13th with 1.17 points per game while teammate Taylor Holstrom, is ed with Michigan s Tyler Mo e at 17th with 1.15 points per contest. BTN will carry both contests between Minnesota and Wisconsin this weekend. Faceoff is slated for 9 p.m. ET on Friday and 8 p.m. on Saturday. The games are part of an extensive slate of television coverage this season with at least 35 games set to air na onally on BTN, ESPNU and ESPNEWS. Michigan s Hyman, Minnesota s Kyle Rau and Ohio State s Tanner Fritz were selected as hockey candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebra ng Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the a ributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and compe on. Hyman and Wisconsin s Joel Rumpel are among the 15 nominees for the 2015 BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award, announced on Thursday. Celebra ng its 20th anniversary this year, the award is presented annually to a student-athlete who makes significant contribu ons to his or her team and the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism. Tickets for the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament, slated for March 19-21, 2015, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, are on sale. The Big Ten schedule is a 20-game slate with each team playing the other five members four mes. Points in the regular season Big Ten standings will be awarded as follows: three points for a regula on or over me win, two points for a shootout win, one point for a shootout loss and no points for a regula on or over me loss. BTN will broadcast at least 29 games, including mul- ple games each weekend during a six-week stretch in January and February. In addi on to the 28 games airing live on BTN, all locally televised games will also be available to a na onal audience live on BTN2Go. The network also will provide live coverage of all five games from the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament in March. ESPN will televise an addi onal six contests, with the next broadcast scheduled for Feb. 21 between Minnesota and Penn State. 5 BIG TEN HOCKEY WEEKLY RELEASE 5 The Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will be held March 19-21, 2015, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. The tournament will feature all six teams in a single-elimina on format. The 2015 tournament will consist of five games (two games on Thursday, March 19; two games on Friday, March 20; and the championship game on Saturday, March 21). The winner of the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will receive the conference s automa c bid to the NCAA Championship. BTN will provide live na onal coverage of all five games of the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament. The conference tournament will return to the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn., in 2016, and will be played at Joe Louis Arena in Tickets for the 2015 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament are on sale now.
