This is incorporated in the Cairns Hockey Aspire to be Deadly Program which is designed to support the inclusion of indigenous young women and girls and promote importance of school, health and fitness and making new friends. Aspire to be Deadly is contributing almost $8000 to this trip to support these outcomes. This is being shared across the Cairns Barra and Muddies and the Cairns West Team. Rhiannon Forbes (G.K) GENERAL INFORMATION The Karumba Hockey Festival is played over 3 days Tuesday-Thursday 12 th -15 th Sept 2017 Travelling days Monday 11 th and Friday 15 th 24 players identified and invited 6 adult supervisors coaches/managers and supervisor roles Matt Cook and Wes Ferns will be mentoring and supporting the adult supervisors Cairns West State School Team is partnering with Cairns Hockey and will be travelling with us

4 SPECIAL EVENT Karumba P&C is putting on a colour run event on Thursday afternoon and the competition finishes Please pack a white T shirt We will collect $5.00 at the last training and uniform presentation on Sunday 10 th September 2017 P&C will coordinate this VEHICLES (1) 37seater coach with professional driver (2) 8seater self-drive Cairns West State School (3) Cairns Hockey Prado Wes, Matt and Julie will be travelling in the Prado to make sure the journey is well managed order and collect the lunches, and generally oversee the journey. The Girls are in self- contained cabins at Gee Dee s with the female supervisors The Boys are in caravans at Sunset Caravan park with the male supervisors There is a large space at Sunset Caravan Park where breakfast will be served every morning Only 5minute walk between accommodation Bus Driver is accommodated in separate accommodation to both the boys and the girls Cairns West State School girls are accommodated at the Gulf Country Caravan park but the boys and their supervisor will have a cabin with Cairns Boys at the caravan park. Other Matters In addition to the supervisors Matt Cook, Wes Ferns and Julie McNeil will act as mentors and support. The 3 of us have more than 10year experience attending the event Julie will be the photographer and will keep everyone updated via social media We will send through all information on the Cairns Hockey Facebook Page Wes will be coordinating the hockey event Matt will be mentoring the coaches and managers Parents coming out are welcome to travel with us. The draw will be posted next week some time and we will distribute same so you are all aware of when the games are being played I will post all results and images reflecting the trip minimum twice a day on Facebook.

5 Please advise your children that there is internet in Karumba but service will be lost after Mount Garnett and will only be intermittent through the Gulf Country until we get to Normanton and then Karumba. Please pack light we are in the bush please put a light long sleeve top/jumper in case it gets a little chilly at night Days will be hot sunscreen, hats and sun protection, sunglasses are a must Water Bottles should always be full- the more water drunk the better Cairns Hockey will be having a meeting with Managers very soon to explain all matters relating to uniforms, travelling shirts and other matters. Once this meeting is completed additional information will be available.
