The Thunderhawk men competed very hard and finished 23rd out the very strong 31 team field at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH. The top runner for East was senior Max Chandler who placed 98th in the 280-man field. Max s time for the 5k (3.1 mile) course was 18:14. Coming in next for the Hawks was sophomore Will Gibson, who placed 108thin 18:22. Rounding out the top 5 scorers for East were seniors Gage Shook (135th, 18:36) and Troy Temelis (137th, 18:37), and sophomore Flynn Prather (149th, 18:44). The Hawk men will continue to get stronger and move further up in the pack as each week progresses. The Lakota East men s cross country team placed 8th out of 12 teams at their own Lakota East Fall Classic on Saturday and had quite a few season bests along the way as they continue to improve. Once again, leading the way for the Thunderhawks was senior Max Chandler who placed 25th overall in a time of 18:12 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Next across the finish line for East was senior Reese Kuhlman who placed 38th in 18:30. Rounding out the top 5 scorers for the Hawks were sophomores Will Gibson (49th, 18:42) and Flynn Prather (54th, 18:47), and junior Ethan Swift (55th, 18:47). Next up for the Lakota East cross country team is the Lebanon Warrior Invitational this Saturday, September 1st at Lebanon High School. 9/1 Running BOYS CROSS COUNTRY RUNS WELL AT WARRIOR INVITE

2 Warrior Lebanon HS The Lakota East men ran a number of season-best performances at the Lebanon Running Warrior Invitational to continue their improving ways. The Thunderhawk men placed a respectable 9th out of 22 teams. The top runner for East once again was senior Max Chandler who ran a season-best time of 17:57 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course to place 33rd overall in the 191-man varsity field. Sophomore Will Gibson came in next for the Hawks, running 18:06 for 40thplace and senior Gage Shook had a bounce-back performance placing 43rd in 18:13. Rounding out the scoring for the East men were seniors Reese Kuhlman (62nd, 18:32) and Andrew Johnson (64th, 18:33). HS Boys 5k Varsity 33. Tropical storm Gordon forced the cancellation of the Brookville Invite this past Saturday. Next up for the Thunderhawk Cross Country teams in the Milford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15th. 9/15 Milford Invite 9th The Lakota East men s cross country team ran the last 5k of the day at the Milford Invitational which meant they ran on a very chewed up and treacherous course. The Thunderhawk men placed 9th in the 17-team field. Leading the way for the Hawks once again was senior Max Chandler who placed 28th overall in a time of 18:11 for the 3.1 mile course. Senior Gage Shook came in next for East with a 38th place finish in 18:20. Junior Ethan Swift (56th, 18:47), senior Andrew Johnson (70th, 19:00), and sophomore Will Gibson (79th, 19:09), rounded out the top 5 scorers for Thunderhawk men. Boys Varsity 5k 28. The Thunderhawk men, who were not projected to place in the top 5 teams, took advantage of the cool temperature to place 2nd overall in the 9-team field just 21 points behind first place Walnut Hills. East s top 5 runners only had a 26-second spread and the their top 6 runners broke 18:00 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Only one had done it before Saturday. The top five scoring Hawks were seniors Max Chandler (5th place, 17:25), Gage Shook (10th, 17:34), Troy Temelis (12th, 17:40), Andrew Johnson (16th, 17:46), and junior Nick Draginoff (17th, 17:51). The Thunderhawk women, despite sitting out some key varsity runners, still placed 2nd overall as a team at the Harrison Invitational, just 11 points behind Walnut Hills. Coming off an illness the week before, sophomore Kelsi Harris placed 2nd overall in the women s race, covering the 5k (3.1 mile) course in a season best 19 minutes 33 seconds. Running a lifetime best of 20:16, placing 5th overall, and knocking on the door of the all-time Lakota East performance list was junior Hailey Wilson who placed 5th overall in 20:16. Also running lifetime bests were sophomore Paxton Oberhaus (10th, 20:43) and freshman Sarah Renfro (14th, 21:12). Rounding out the scoring for East was junior Kasey Hanes (19th, 21:39). 4 9/29 Midwest Meet of Hiliard Darby *Results - finishtiming.com The Lakota East men struggled from a bad start and a pace-vehicle error at Hilliard Bradley this weekend. The Thuderhawks were caught up in the bottleneck early in the race and then the pace vehicle cut the race ½ mile short which didn t leave enough time for East to make up any ground. The Hawks placed 35th out of 39 teams in the 276-runner field. The first man across the finish line, once again, for East was senior Max Chandler who placed 154th overall. Next in for East was senior Gage Shook who placed 184th overall. Rounding out the scoring for East were seniors Andrew Johnson (190th place) and Reese Kuhlman (206th place), and sophomore Will Gibson who placed 214th overall. The men placed 4th overall in the team competition and now have momentum heading into the District meet next weekend where they aim to achieve their 8th straight Regional berth. Leading the way for the Hawks was senior Max Chandler who etched his name on the sub-17:00 all-time list at Lakota East with his 16:53, 14th place finish on the 5k (3.1 mile) championship course at Voice of America. Max s time places him #25 all-time at Lakota East. Senior Troy Temelis came in next for East placing 26th overall in 17:12. Rounding out the scoring for the Thunderhawks was junior Ethan Swift (17:16, 30th) and seniors Reese Kuhlman (17:20, 33rd) and Gage Shook (17:23, 35th). Boys 5k Varsity 14. Back to the Top Date Event School Placings 8/18 OHSAA National Trail Raceway Winning Individual Season Stats Girls Cross Country Highlights/Recap 1st EAST CROSS COUNTRY WOMEN START SEASON OFF WITH A WIN The Lakota East women s cross country team started their 2018 campaign off with a bang! They won the high-quality, prestigious OHSAA Early Season Invitational by an astonishing 44 points. The meet was held at the State Championships course in Hebron, OH. The top 5 women s places only added up to 66 points in the 22-team, 195 runner field. Leading the way for the Thunderhawk ladies was junior Danielle Horter who placed 6th overall in a time of 19:21 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Right behind Danielle was sophomore Carly Spletzer who placed 7th in 19:23. Rounding out the top 5 for East was sophomore Kelsi Harris (12th, 19:45), and seniors Lindsay Isom (20th, 20:01) and Ali Neumeier (21st, 20:03). Superstar freshman Cali Reynolds made her Hawk debut and placed 28th overall in 20:08.

The top 5 scorers places added up to only 31 points which bested runner-up Turpin who scored 44. The top Hawk for the women was overall runner-up, Carly Spletzer (sophomore) whose 2ndplace time was 19:14 (season best) for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Also running a season best was sophomore Kelsi Harris who placed 4th overall in 19:34. Right behind Kelsi was junior Danielle Horter who placed 5th in 19:37. And rounding out the scoring for the Thunderhawks were seniors Lindsay Isom (9th, 20:03) and Ali Neumeier (11th, 20:15). Next up for the Lakota East cross country team is the Lebanon Warrior Invitational this Saturday, September 1st at Lebanon High School. 9/1 Running Warrior Lebanon HS 1st GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY REMAINS UNBEATEN! The Lakota East Women s cross country team had an impressive outing at the 12-team Lebanon Running Warrior Invitational on Saturday. The Thunderhawk women put 5 runners in the top 10 of a 185-runner field to win their 3rdstraight team title this season. Sophomore Carly Spletzer led the way for East once again with her 3rd place overall finish in a time of 19:21 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Junior Danielle Horter was close behind in 5th place in 19:32.7. Thuderhawk sophomore Carly Spletzer was the overall women s champion while completing the 5k (3.1 mile) course in 19:16. From there, the East women would place four more runners in the top ten. Junior Danielle Horter placed 4th overall in 19:33, senior Lindsay Isom placed 5th in 19:36, freshman Phenom Cali Reynolds placed 6th in 19:44 (20th fastest women s time in school history), and senior Ali Neumeier placed 10th in 20:18.1. The answer everyone else takes their game up a notch! The East women defeated a 37-team, 256-runner field by an 81-point margin. Sophomore Kelsi Harris took the reigns as the #1 Hawk runner and ran a 20 second personal best time of 18:59 on the 5k (3.1-mile) course to place 13th overall. That is also the 10th fastest female time in Lakota East history. Shadowing Kelsi s experience the whole race was superstar freshman Cali Reynolds, who placed 16th overall in 19:08 (#12 all-time at Lakota East). Running #3 for East was sophomore Danielle Horter who ran a season-best 19:14 to place 19th overall. Seniors Lindsay Isom and Ali Neumeier rounded out the scoring for the Thunderhawks by having season breakthrough performances of 19:22 (23rd) and 19:27 (25th) respectively. The Lakota East women s cross country team continued their dominating, unblemished season by capturing the 2018 GMC team title this past Saturday at Voice of America Park. It is only the 2nd CC league team title in school history (2002). The achievement was even more dynamic as the Hawks broke a string of 8 consecutive GMC titles by the Mason squad dating back to East nipped the Comets by a slim point total. Junior Danielle Horter and sophomore Kelsi Harris attacked the individual crown and fell just short to finish 2nd and 3rd overall. Horter s time of 18:17 for the 5k (3.1 mile) championship course ties Lakota East legend Abbie VanFossen s time for 2nd fastest in school history. Harris time of 18:18 ranks her #4 all-time. Senior Ali Neumeier ran her best career race, placing 6th overall in 18:38 which moves her up 8th all-time at East. Super Frosh Cali Reynolds placed 7th overall in 18:43 which places her at #9 in school history already! And rounding out the top 5 scorers for East was senior Lindsay Isom who just missed a lifetime best performance by placing 12th overall in 19:01 and held a crucial position to preserve the team for the Thunderhawks. Back to the Top Date Date Opponent W/L Score Overall GMC Record Record Football East Highlights 8/24 Walnut Hills won The 2018 Thunderhawk Football team kicks off their season Friday, Aug. 24th when they host visiting Walnut Hills. Kick off is 7:00 pm. Statistics Football Outlook from head coach Rick Haynes We are looking forward to an exciting 2018 season of Thunderhawk Football. The off-season has been great and we are and look forward to competing in the always tough GMC. Several returning starters that include seniors Avi McGary DB, Quinton Moss DB, Sean Church QB/RB, Evan Yablonsky WR and juniors Adam Hundemer DL and Michael Howard LB will lead Lakota East. - The 2018 East Football team smashed visiting Walnut Hills in the season opener for both schools. Final score: 42-7 Thunderhawks! The Hawks dominated the Eagles with a formidable rushing attack, with 278 yards froim their ground attack. On the other side of the ball it was a completely different story. The East Defense help WH to only 10 yards rushing on the night. Leading the way for the Thunderhawks was running back Sean Church who totaled 119 yards on 12 carries, scoring 2 TD's. Senior Jack Dobrozsi also had a great night rushing for 73 yards and 3 TD's. The Hawks are home again this Friday when they will host the visiting Kings Knights. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm. 8/31 Kings lost Lakota East came up a little short in their comeback attempt versus Kings last Friday and Saturday. After falling behind 20-3 in the first half, the Hawks used the weather delay to their advantage, almost pulling off a win. East was able to overcome the halftime deficit in Saturday's restart taking a lead in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, The Knights found a way to tack on 7 more points with approx. 2:23 remaining, send the Hawks to their first loss on the season. Game stats are not available at this time. The Thunderhawks will go on the round for the first time this Friday when they visit Middletown (1-1). The Middies fell to Springboro last Saturday Middletown won Lakota East Football opened league play on a soggy Friday night with a 32-7 win at Middletown. The Hawks allowed the Middies a 2nd quarter TD and that was it to send their record to 2-1 on the season. See scoring

The Vikings lost to Colerain this past weekend Princeton won forfeit PRINCETONS USE OF A INELIGIBLE PLAYER HAS BEEN CONSIDERED A FORFEIT Princeton gets a "hail mary" TD as time expired in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hawks last Friday at Princeton. West fell to Mason last Friday, Come early for a good seat! 10/5 Lakota West WON EAST BLASTS FIREBIRDS Before a packed Homecoming crowd last Friday night, Lakota East defeated Lakota West 36-3 in the 22nd meeting between the Greater Miami Conference programs. Lakota East has now won three consecutive games in the series. Even though the Lakota East versus Lakota West game has been played annually since 1998, the Thunderhawks snapped a five-game home losing streak against West Friday night. Lakota East (5-2, 4-1 GMC), rated No. 8 in Division I, Region 4 computer points standings, scored 21 unanswered points in the first half en route to the victory. Lakota East had 366 yards of total offense. Senior running back Jack Dobrozsi had 13 carries for 240 yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Sean Church was 5 of 9 passing for 96 yards and two touchdowns. After West scored their only points of the game on a 42-yard first quarter FG, the teams traded additional punts until the Thunderhawks recovered a fumble toward the sideline on second down near the nine-minute mark. East capitalized five plays later when Church found senior Evan Yablonsky for a 41-yard touchdown pass connection to help give East a 7-3 lead at the 6:23 mark of the second quarter. DISTRICT CHAMPS! The Lakota East Thunderhawk boy golf program continued to add to their legacy on Thursday at Beavercreek CC. The Hawks fought off tough conditions to snare a Division 1 District Championship and propell them to state for the third consecutive season. Senior Kyle Schmidt scorched the course with a 2-under par round of 70 to lead his team and earn medalits honors. Schmidt, a University of Dayton commit, was four shots better than everybody at the district on a brisk, windy day with very hard ground on the Beavercreek course. Winner of the last five Greater Miami Conference crowns, East ruled the district with 312 strokes, edging GMC rival Mason (315) and St. Xavier (316) on the par- 72 course. The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying squad will compete at the state tournament next Friday and Saturday on the Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus. The Bombers struck first midway through the first half, but the Hawks answered quickly two minutes later by a goal from junior, Eyad Qaqish. With 4 minutes remaining in the half the Bombers regained the lead 2-1. Eight minutes into the second half, St. X extended the lead 3-1. Ten minutes later, the Hawks shortened the lead to 3-2 by a goal from junior, Adam Karman, assisted by junior, Luke Birdsong. East was aggressive in their attack early in the match, putting a couple of shots just off target. The Hawk defense held strong throughout the match limiting Loveland to six shots and fending off six corner kicks. The lone goal of the match came in the second half with 19 minutes to play from junior captain, Pepe Cortez, assisted by senior, Andrew Macedo. Senior goal keeper, Cayden Urmston, recorded seven saves and earned his first shutout of the season. East s record moves to 1-1. The Hawks play at home Thursday night against the Milford Eagles. 8/23 Milford tie The Thunderhawks battled to a 1-1 draw Thursday night against the visiting Milford Eagles. Both teams played defensive minded the first half with minimal scoring threats on both sides. After giving up an own goal four minutes into the second half, the Hawks started to find their offensive rhythm and created more chances to score. With 15 minutes left to play, the Hawks were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Junior captain, Pepe Cortez fired a shot on frame that deflected off of junior, Eyad Qaqish, redirecting the ball past the Milford goalkeeper and equalizing the score at 1-1. The Hawks had opportunities to get the go-ahead-goal in the remaining minutes of the match, but Milford s goalkeeper made game saving stops that kept the score at 1-1.

After a foul in the penalty box, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick which junior captain, Pepe Cortez, capitalized on, making the score 1-0. East continue offensive pressure throughout the half and ten minutes later senior, Luke Shelby, extended the Hawks lead to 2-0 after connecting a pass from senior captain, Isaac Zawila. Cortez would get his second goal of the match with nine minutes remaining in the half after receiving a pass from junior, Eyad Qaqish, and firing a shot past the Big Blue keeper and extending the lead to 3-0. One minute later Hamilton would shorten the Hawk s lead to 3-1 after a free kick deflected off the Hawks wall. Springboro East continued creating chances early in the second half. Three minutes into the half, junior Trevor Scott, fired a volley into the corner of the net after receiving a pass from senior teammate, Andrew Macedo, making the score 4-1. Six minutes later it would be Macedo s turn to score after connecting on a free kick just outside the box making the final score 5-1. East senior keeper, Cayden Urmston, came up with seven saves in 68 minutes of play followed by senior, Ethan Rottenberger, who made a save in the match. East record moves to (1-0-1 GMC). The continue on the road at Springboro, Saturday night. East will host Mason on Tuesday, Sept. 18th. 9/18 Mason lost East suffered their first GMC loss of the year on Tuesday with a 2-0 blanking by Mason. The Hawks go to on the season and will play at Princeton on Tuesday, Sept. 25th. Princeton won The boys soccer team defeated Princeton on the road Tuesday night to earn their 2nd GMC victory on the season. The Hawks struck first early in the match after a cross from junior, Luke Birdsong, found junior, Eyad Qaqish, who placed the ball in the back of the net. The Hawks extended the lead four minutes into the 2nd half. This time it would be Birdsong who finished the play from a pass by junior, Nolan Earl, making the score 2-0. The Vikings would answer three minutes later after finding space behind the Hawk s back line making the final score 2-1. The Hawks record moves to (2-1-1 GMC). East returns home to continue GMC play Thursday night against Colerain. 9/27 Colerain won The boy s soccer team won their second consecutive game against Colerain Thursday night. The Hawk s struck early in the match when a corner kick, taken by junior captain Pepe Cortez, bounced around in the box and was finished by senior, Luke Shelby to put East up 1-0. The Hawks would strike again two minutes later, this time it d be Cortez who gets credit for the goal after a shot lofted in the box past the Cardinals goal keeper, making the final score 2-0. East senior goal keeper, Cayden Urmston had two saves on the match and the defensive back line: Zain Combs, Isaac Zawila, Nolan Earl and JP Plennert helped secure the shutout. The Hawk s record moves to (3-1-1 GMC).
