1 2016 bulb list Greetings from Northern Ireland! June 2016 We, at Esker Farm Daffodils would like to welcome you to our first bulb list. We have been growing and exhibiting for a number of years both here in Northern Ireland and also in England. Our interest in daffodils stems from going along to one of the Northern Ireland Daffodil Group s annual lectures as a representative for our local gardening society and from there our curiosity was piqued, realising a daffodil is anything but just a daffodil. Since then we have been very fortunate to have had guidance and encouragement from some amazing and very knowledgeable growers and exhibitors across the UK and Ireland. As teachers by trade, we are fortunate to have summers relatively free and so for the last five years we have spent them at Brian and Betty Duncan s, helping in the field and learning from the best. Three years ago Brian asked if we would be willing to grow on some of his seedlings for him. Brian and our selves have spent a lot of time selecting and assessing these and now we are at a point were we can make a small amount of these available for your purchasing delight. Over the coming years, as stocks increase, we will be able to bring more of these amazing varieties to the market. We have been inspected by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) plant health inspectors who regularly test samples of our soil and bulbs in their laboratories to ensure we are free of pests and diseases. We have been given the all-clear and therefore the go-ahead to export bulbs anywhere around the world. All our bulbs can come supplied with a Phyto-sanitary certificate issued by DARD, if required. Our European Community Quality Passport Number is UK/NI All varieties offered for sale are grown here at Esker Farm. We also have a compact selection of previously registered varieties available this year; however this will be increasing significantly next year so watch this space Dispatching of bulbs is September/October unless you specifically request otherwise. Prime Target has caught the eye of many grower at each show it has appeared at. A true step forward in orange cups. Show success in Northern Ireland and also at RHS shows in London. First time this has been made available. Winner of the Ralph B. White Memorial medal in mm 30 Trumpet Solo 1W-YYP Mid Season. (B. S. Duncan). Ben Aligin x Korora Bay [D 3436]. Broad, smooth pure white petals of lovely firm texture forming a large flat perianth. The Trumpet has a lovely pink rim. 112mm 10 Nanny Anne 1Y-Y Early-mid Season. (B. S. Duncan). Tyrone Gold x Impeccable [D 2707]. A very large smooth flower of heavy substance. 118mm wide. Deep golden yellow perianth. Well poised on a strong stem. Best bloom in show at Belfast Spring Daffodil Show mm 20 System Alert Kenwell Centennial 2Y-R 2Y-Y Mid Season. (B. S. Duncan) x Tropical Heat [D 3474]. A consistent flower with a very smooth perianth. Goblet-shaped cup of deep red. 106mm Early-mid Season. (B. S. Duncan). Crevenagh x Impeccable [D 3140]. This flower shows the best characteristics of each of its parents. Hard to fault with each flower very consistent. The whole flower is of a deep golden yellow. 93mm 20 10

This variety has been named after a competition on our Facebook page. 107mm 25 Mid to Late Season. (B. S. Duncan). D1560 x D1583 [D 2739]. A most striking intermediate. White petals of lovely smooth texture. Consistent show success over the last number of years. 79mm 12 Mid-Season. (B. S. Duncan). African Sunset x Stanway [D 3673]. Sundance Kid 3Y-O 103mm 15 Iced Lemon 3Y-Y Mid to Late Season. (B. S. Duncan). Moon Shadow x Lemma [D 3659]. Brian has made huge strides over the past few years in 3Y-Y's. Another from the Moon Shadow, Lemma crosses. 98mm 15 Brassicala 4W-O Mid-Season. (B. S. Duncan). Serena Beach x Gay Kybo [D 2495]. An excellent, fully double show flower. It is a very strong plant of wonderful pose with stems that hold it up well. 112mm 15 Mid to Late Season. (B. S. Duncan). Hill Star x Little Bell [D 3804]. A true challenger to Kathy A and Petanca.
