1 WORLD PRO GOALTENDING SKILL CHART BANTAM & MIDGET SECTION # 1: PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAITS 2. EXECUTION OF THE BASIC TECHNIQUES a. Stance (and Stance at the Post) A. ATHLETICISM Goals: Being able to get in a stance that has: feet enough apart, knees bent, gloves out 1. Speed, Power & Overall Body Strength Being able to get in a stance that allows for post coverage and mobility (knees bent) Goal: Being able to generate speed and power, and to show good overall body strength b. Butterfly 2. Flexibility, Fluidity & Balance Goals: Being able to bring to transition with knees coming together and the shoulders up Goal: Being able to show good fluidity in the stance and butterfly and maintain good balance Being able to keep the knees together and keeping a forward torso while on the ice 3. Hand / Foot Speed and Hand / Foot -Eye Coordination c. Knee Drop Goal: Being able to see the puck off the sticks and to react in time to make the saves Goals: Being able to maintain post position and body control while quickly going down Being able to take away the bottom part of the net (5-hole) and space along the post B. MAKE UP d. Post Lean 1. Competitiveness Goals: Being able to maintain post position and body control while going down Goal: Being able to show a great work ethic and compete level at all time Being able to land at the post in a controlled position (skate at the post) 2. Consistency Goal: Being able to play at the same level for the entire game / session 3. THE SAVE 3. Mental Toughness a. Tracking the Shot Goal: Being able to bounce back after a goal or when facing adversity Goal: Being able to track the puck from stick to body b. Calmness in the Save C. GOALIE SENSE & DECISION MAKING Goal: Being able to recognize when the puck is going to hit the body and remain in control 1. Decision Making d. Small touches (Elbows, Toes & Stick) Goal: Being able to make the proper save selections for maximum efficiency Goals: Being able to elevate the elbow into a tight postion with the body 2. Awareness & Anticipation Being able to push the feet and toes with control and balance Goal: Being able to read situations and body languages Being able to make controlled stick touches 3. Communication d. Gloves Goal: Being able help teammates make good decisions by communicating with them Goals: Being able to shift into the shot and leading with the head Being able to maintain a bent arm angle that allows for precision and strength SECTION # 2: TECHNICAL SKILLS 4. REBOUND CONTROL AND LOOSE PUCKS a. Containing / Pucks in Front 1. SKATING, POSITIONING & RECOVERIES Goals: Being able to keep the puck in the body a. T-Pushes Being able to create a stick angle that elevates the puck towards the body Goal: Being able to make big adjustments using the concepts of middle / set / depth Being able to use feet and toes to keep the puck in front of the body b. Small Lateral Adj'ts (Shuffles & Drifting) b. Pucks to the Corners Goals: Being able to make quick and fluid small lateral adjustments Goals: Being able to maintain the legs into a deep angle to have the puck skim the pad Being able to stay with the play while maybe anticipating another play. Being able to angle and slightly move the stick to direct the puck to the corner c. Depth Adj'ts (C-Cuts/Gliding/Fronting) Being able to push the feet and toes in a way that directs the puck to the corner Goal: Being able to make controlled depth adjustments to maximize net coverage and/or positioning Goals: Being able to retrieve the puck quickly with the stick d. Recoreries (Back to the Feet) Being able to extend into the puck with the stick to push it away from danger Goal: Being able to recover following the concepts of middle/set/depth c. Loose Pucks (Stick / Paddle Activations) e. Slides / Collapses (Transition) Goals: Being able to retrieve the puck quickly or push it away Goal: Being able to quickly and efficiently transition from the stance to butterfly (moving laterally) Being able to drop to the paddle at the right time and with strength f. Down Movements (Edges / Knees) d. Leg Extensions Goals: Being able to use the edges in an efficient manner (proper path of direction, speed and power) Goal: Being able to quickly maximize the flair with one leg Being able to make small / quick adjustments on the knees g. Adj'ts at the Post 5. PUCK HANDLING Goal: Being able to adjust the position at the post depending of situations (depth and width) a. Getting to & Controlling Pucks Goal: Being able quickly and with explosion skate to stop a rim or to get to a dump in Being able to place stick and body in a strong position to fully stop the puck b. Setting for the Play Goal: Being able to quickly and efficiently place the feet, body, stick and puck in a position to make a play c. Execution of the Play Goal: Being able to execute the play with strength and accuracy
