5 PICTURES OF MARKET ANIMALS In an effort to have the pictures of the market animals and the exhibitors done in time for the Buyer Thank You cards for Sale Day, we are asking that ALL MARKET exhibitors either take a photo at home of you and your animal or have your photo taken at the fair prior to show day. If the photo is taken at home make sure you and your animal are in the photo and both of you are clean! Photos are to be 4X6 color photos. Drop these off to the Extension Office by Friday before the fair. If you do not take the photo at home, we will be taking pictures at the fair on Monday and Tuesday. Times are Monday, August 25 th from (1:00-2:00PM for Hogs in Hog Barn) (2:00-2:30 PM) for other animals at picture backdrop and (6:00-7:00 PM for Rabbits & Chickens at Slevin Hall) and on Tuesday, August 26th from 10:00-11:00 AM in Swine Barn and Picture Backdrop. Exhibitor and animal must be clean. Please write your name and tag number of your animal on the back of the photo. *** Exhibitors not getting their picture taken or not turning a photo in will not have picture Thank You for their buyer. (A card will state that you did not show up to have your picture taken. ***This is important - we want to have the photos on the Buyers Thank You on the day they are handed out at the sale. SALE PROCEDURES United Producers Livestock will be the sole providers of the 2014 Noble County Junior Fair Livestock Sale re-sale bids. Once market hogs, market lambs, market feeder calves and market steers are committed to United Producers Livestock at the re-sale bid (turned), they can not be retrieved. Junior fair participants must designate 2 hours after the last show on Thursday of fair week, which animals they are NOT taking through the sale ring or forfeit their right to pull their animals from the sales. An exhibitor may only sell 2 lots in the Junior Fair Sale. Once an animal is on the printed sale bill, it can t be removed from the sale. The Noble County Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee will be conducting the Sale this year instead of Producers Livestock. One change maybe that checks will not be written to exhibitors until their buyer has paid; which could be more than 30 days following the fair. FUNDRAISING FOR NEW RABBIT & POULTRY BUILDING Plans are underway for construction of a new Rabbit and Poultry Building on the Noble County Fairgrounds. The current building has several issues and repairs seem to only be temporary. With the increase of rabbit and poultry projects, it is time for a new building. Donations are currently being sought and donations can be made to the Noble Co. Junior Fair Building Fund and sent to PO Box 2, Caldwell, OH or dropped off at the Extension Office. 13 SHOWING APPRECIATION GREAT ARTICLE!! Show your #FairThanks By Jennifer M. Latzke The High Plains Journal. Ribbons and trophies and banners and premiums oh my. Whenever we tell the story of youth programs, we tend to focus on who won the rosette, whose name will be engraved on the trophy, who gets to place that placard above their stall reading, Grand Champion Market Beef. It s too easy to take for granted, however, the small business owners and individuals who make those rewards possible for our youth. You know them. They re your neighbors who have the beauty shops on main street, the local bank or hardware store. They re the farmer down the way who sponsors the plaque for the champion heifer in the breed they raise. They are the bidders at the Jr. Fair sale who may not know how to judge livestock, but they make sure even a red ribbon pig gets a little bump for the kid who tried so hard. They don t do it for fame. No one writes a check year after year after year for glory or a photo in the community newspaper. They do it because they are members of the community and they feel it s their duty. Those local donors big and small do it because they see how these programs build skills in the next generation. Donors see the rate of return on their investment not in currency but in intrinsic things. See, it may look like a trophy to you, but to them it looks like a child s self-esteem and recognition of their hard work and leadership. Oh sure, we make sure the kids write sweet thank you notes. (Let me tell you, a sweet thank you note in crayon in a youngster s own printing makes even the gruffest farmer melt.) Our fair boards hand out sponsor ribbons for businesses to display. We might list them in show programs, and we host yearly thank you barbecue dinners before the Jr. Fair auction. Those are all wonderful ways of showing our appreciation, to be sure. But this summer, when you post those pictures to Facebook of your kids and their prize-winning projects, why not recognize the local sponsors who made that honor possible, in a new way? Why not go beyond the usual to show your support of their businesses to your extended networks of friends? All you have to do is tag the sponsors who made those prizes possible in your photos. Just search if they have a Facebook or Twitter account for their business, and then tag it in your photo caption. You could even share pictures of your kids and their prize-winning projects to their Facebook business pages. Share links to their company websites in the captions of the photos you post. Post pictures of your youth thanking them with plates of cookies or handwritten notes. The ways are endless and bound only by your creativity. Let s make this a movement. You re already posting pictures all over social media, just add one more thing to those posts. Let s come together and show our local businesses our #FairThanks for their support.
