4 MARKET STEER WEIGH-IN Any member interested in exhibiting a market steer at the 2015 Noble County Junior Fair must have the steer weighed and tagged on Saturday, December 20th at the United Producers Livestock. Weigh-in will be from 9:00-11:00 AM. Tune in to WWKC for any weather related cancellations or updates. December 27th will be the make-up date for weigh-in, if we encounter bad weather. ** This is a date change from what was published on Noble Co. 4-H Calendar earlier this year. STATE FAIR STEER ENTRIES The Ohio State Fair Beef Department has adopted new protocols for identifying market beef animals beginning with the 2015 Fair, July 29 through August 9. These protocols include the use of an electronic identification (EID) ear tag that has a unique 15-digit number and a DNA sample that will be submitted for all market beef animals that exhibitors plan to enter in the 2015 Ohio State Fair Junior Market Beef show. The DNA collection will be in the form of a hair sample that will be submitted to the Ohio State Fair by January 15, 2015 to meet the ownership deadlines for market beef animals. Along with the DNA hair submission, each market animal s 15-digit EID tag must also be included on the DNA packet. DNA packets may be picked up at an exhibitor s local Ohio State University Extension Office or at any Ohio Cattlemen s Association (OCA) BEST sanctioned show prior to the Jan. 15 deadline. Any market beef animal that is expected to be show at the Ohio State Fair that has a pre-existing EID tag, such as an RFID tag, will not need to have an additional EID tag placed in the animal s ear for State Fair purposes. For example, if the calf was purchased from a breeder that already included a 15-digit RFID tag in the animal, or if the animal has been to an OCA BEST show where an EID tag was placed in its ear, a new tag is not needed. The animal s existing 15-digit identification number will also serve as the animal s Ohio State Fair identification number. Exhibitors of animals not shown at an OCA BEST sanctioned show should contact their county extension office for an EID tag. More information about the DNA collection process and submission to the Ohio State Fair will be available later in November. FUNDRAISING FOR NEW RABBIT & POULTRY Plans are underway for construction of a new Rabbit and Poultry Building on the Noble County Fairgrounds. The current building has several issues and repairs seem to only be temporary. With the increase of rabbit and poultry projects, it is time for a new building. Donations are currently being sought and donations can be made to the Noble Co. Junior Fair Building Fund and sent to PO Box 2, Caldwell, OH or dropped off at the Extension Office. Put in the memo line New Rabbit & Poultry Barn.

5 JUNIOR FAIRBOARD APPLICATIONS 4-H members, at least 12 years of age as of January 1, 2015, can apply for a position representing 4-H on the Noble County Junior Fairboard. This is a two year term for members who are willing to dedicate time and effort into improving the Noble County Junior Fair. Membership allows for opportunities of personal and leadership growth. The application deadline is Wednesday, November 26th. Applications are available at the Extension Office. THANKS TO THE NOBLE COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Noble County 4-H Council. This group of volunteers, parents and youth provide the backbone of support for the 4-H program in Noble County. They work many hours at various events in the concession stand and do other things that help to raise the money that directly benefits every 4-H member in Noble County. These volunteers worked concession stands at the 4 th of July Chicken BBQ, the June Truck & Tractor Pull, the June Demo Derby and helped cater at other events. The money raised by the Noble County 4-H Council is used to purchase all the awards for Achievement Night and Advisor Recognition Banquet, lowering the cost to attend 4-H Camp, sending 4- H ers on state and national trips, cost-sharing registrations to volunteer and youth conferences, workshops and other state-wide opportunities. This is just a short list of the items that funds are spent on. Serving on the Noble County 4-H Council are: Connie Smithberger Gladys Saling Lori Martin Stephanie Bond Susan Smith Joy Feldner Kathryn Maxwell Becky Massey Anna Slevin Heidi Maxwell Tracy Saling Amanda Yurco Yvonne Yonker Emily Smith Adrean Evans If you would like to serve on the 4-H Council or would like more information about what 4-H Council does, contact Nancy Snook at the Extension Office. Our next meeting is Monday, November 10th at 6:30PM at the Jr. Fair Office at the Fairgrounds. We are taking new members for the coming year. Membership is open to any 4-h er in at least 7th Grade as of January 1, The question has been asked Can I just belong to the 4-H Junior Leader Club and take projects through this club? The answer is YES. The Junior Leader Club functions just like a regular community club with scheduled meetings, officers, community service, talks/demonstrations. Plus, a whole lot more! There are some expectations involved if you make this your Primary 4-H Club, such as a six meeting attendance requirement, giving a demonstration or talk, participating on committees and completing a project book. These are all required. If it is not your primary 4-H club, then the six meeting attendance policy is not in effect. Youth are encouraged to attend meeting and participate in events and activities as they have time. Several things that we participate in are: Haunted Trail, State 4-H Teen Conference, Relay for Life, etc. For more information about 4 -H Junior Leaders contact Nancy Snook at the Extension Office at CFAES provides research and related educational programs to clientele on a nondiscriminatory basis.
