1 September 2009 MPHC Newsletter A terrific rain storm didn t hamper the August 15 th and 16 th MPHC show at the Boone County Fairgrounds. It was a huge show and went until late at night. A special thanks to all of the individuals who help make these shows a success and put in many long hours. Below is a message from Sue Hilton, Show Manager: Thanks to all the volunteers and helpers for the Boone County show on August 15th and 16th. The show ran smoothly and had a big turnout!! Thanks to Mike for his excellent ring steward skills and efforts, Brian for a great job announcing, my Mom - Charlotte, for her help in the booth with Brian, my daughter - Nicole, for her help in the entry room with Jackie, Jackie - where would we be without your expertise in the show office, and a big thanks to the trail experts that helped me with setting up the trail course: Greg, Megan, Mary, Joyce, Dean, Bill, Brenda, Larry, Allison, Tracy and Savannah - you guys are the bomb!! I appreciate all your efforts and help with this show - without your help this would not be as much fun. All work and no fun is NOT what MPHC is about. One last big THANK YOU goes out to Greg and Mike - my 1:30 in the morning loss of electricity at my trailer was not at all fun, but once again, these guys helped out and got my A/C back on!! Sue Hilton, Show Manager 2009 LABOR DAY PAINT-O-R AM A MPHC once again hosted a very successful Labor Day POR. This show gets bigger and better each year thanks to all of the hard work of many and the competitors. Are you aware of what it takes to put on this show? You might be surprised. Thanks to Clea Bobbitt for providing the following on just what it takes. ARE YOU AWARE 44.5 Hours of Actual Show Time i.e. 40 hour week hours! 20 States Represented 17 States Represented in just the Trail Classes Unaudited Entries: 1st POR 594 X 4 Judges, resulting in a total of = 2,376 entries 2nd POR 529 X 4 Judges, resulting in a total of = 2,116 entries ARE YOU AWARE. Show Managers Butch Maxwell and Ken Caraway never left their posts.. Ring Staff Mike Engelbrecht and Galen Seehafer were on their feet.. Announcing Staff Bryan Bergeson and Julie Engelbrecht never left their posts.. Office Staff Marilyn Seehafer, Sabrina Seehafer and Jackie Mead never left their posts.

Megan Seehafer managed the computer staff and showed..bryan Bergeson took the time Friday night to pick up, deliver and set up the racks dividing the entrance..kim Garrett and Mary Stocker worked on and provided the Trail patterns for the Pattern Book..Eileen Mack and Clea Bobbitt coordinated with the Judges to obtain the patterns and Chris Hoffman prepared the bound Pattern Books..Suzetta Busby, Paul Garrett, Megan Seehafer, Matt Stocker and Nicole Sousley helped set and reset the Trail Courses at various times throughout the shows..butch Maxwell, Sue Hilton, Sue s Mom Charlotte Attebery, Linda Ashton, Chris and Colt Compton set up the Practice Trail on Friday night..marilyn Malsch, Eileen Mack, Marilyn Seehafer and, of course, Mike E, scribed the Trail classes..lisa Maxwell arranged for and had on-going communications with Aaron Betts, Photographer, making sure he understood our needs..dale and Sharon Rose not only sponsored the Trail florals, but Sharon put the arrangements together..breeders Futurity Committee Lisa Maxwell, Paul Garrett, Debbie Dillard started working on this event back in December 2008, soliciting stallions, making phone calls, preparing and sending letters and reminders throughout 2009 and obtaining awards. Kensy, Kara and Kristen Maxwell were on a 24 / 7 availability throughout the show for errands/assistance needed by Chairperson Lisa Maxwell..John Bobbitt and Greg Tambke worked throughout the year soliciting sponsors for awards and developing the Shootout format..the following made the Shootout buckles possible: John Bobbitt Pleasure Horses, Renee Garrison, Bob & Claudia Horohoe, Wade Spell Pleasure Horses, Randy & Patty Short, the Greg Tambke family and Dean Woolley Pleasure Horses..The following made the Shootout jackets possible: All Time Fancy, Tracy Billing & Neil DiCrisci, Mike & Terry Boss, Jim & Beth Buechler, Russ & Joyce Conklin, Larry & Susan Cridlebaugh, Calvin Emig, Mike & Julie Engelbrecht, The Equine Shop, Jeff Fischer, Garrett Farms, Hobson Interiors, Kevin & Katelyn Hood, Greg & Carlene Lowe, Ronnie & Patti Lucas, Greg McCormick, Jackie Mead, Ted & Allison Mitchell, paramounteqine.com, Painted Maple Farms, the Pruess Family, Ron & Diane Ragan, Romriell Performance Horses, Megan Seehafer, Show-Me Paints, Tenhouse Training Stables, The Hat Doctor, Brad & Julie Wiser..Susan Cridlebaugh stayed late during the Shootout to help Clea Bobbitt sort and hand out awards..megan Seehafer worked with the computer program and developed the computer entry form far in advance of the show..jackie Mead began taking stall reservations far in advance, prepared and attached stall tags and arrived on Wednesday for the first early arrivals..kim Garrett and Mary Stocker came up with the idea and developed the Cash for 7 th Football Throw and Youth Boot Race with John and Clea Bobbitt obtaining the footballs and flag, Sharon Rose providing the hoops, Annetta John assisting with the event and Gary & Kathy Miller donating the Boot Race cash awards.

3 .The Hat Doctor, Butch & Lisa Maxwell, Brenda Shealy and Clint Fullerton made possible the items for the Performance Horses in Open Halter drawings. Debbie Dillard and Randy Little of PFI provided the two PFI gift baskets for Performance Horses in the Amateur Halter drawing..savannah Hitt, Mary Stocker and Megan Seehafer, Awards Committee, began their selections and purchases far in advance..the Mike Johnson Family prepared and served the MPHC sponsored Exhibitors BBQ meal..olin Parker hosted an All Exhibitors Social on Saturday night. He also obtained the Chariton Vet and DAC gift certificates and Cinch duffle bag, all of which were given away during the show..butch and Lisa Maxwell provided both the red and blue Missouri Breeders Futurity koozies..the Show Committee, Bryan Bergeson, Clea Bobbitt, Kim Garrett, Butch Maxwell, Lisa Maxwell, Jackie Mead and Greg Tambke began their duties in 2008 and spent volumes of hours driving to and having meetings, ing and on the phone to prepare the final product..youth Advisor Sue Hilton headed up ALL the Youth Activities and involvement..and, after the show, Megan Seehafer will be finalizing the show results for APHA submittal and for Jackie, calculating income, paying bills and preparing the P & L for the show. Jackie Mead will be tabulating State points and Clea Bobbitt will be updating the website. Lisa Maxwell will be finalizing Breeders Futurity results as will Greg Tambke for the Shootout..The Show Committee will begin, and already have started, analyzing the overall show from all standpoints. Thank you to the cast of thousands whose participation contributed to the success of this show who obligated hours of time, substantial effort and financial support leading up to this show, performed assigned AND extra duties at the show and/or were on call throughout the show. Not to sell short those who give of their time and take on similar obligations at our weekend shows, thank you, as well. 4 **2009 AP H A FALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW** The second installment of the APHA World Championship Show Series will run November 5 14, The Fall Show will feature most of the Amateur and Open World Championship classes (with the exception of Cutting, Reining, Roping and Working Cow Horse, Team Sorting and Team Penning), along with an expanded program of "Slot Classes," and exciting new Breeders' Futurity events. Both events will remain at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. ** Important Reminders ** The annual general membership meeting and the 2009 year-end awards banquet will be held at the Lodge of the Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, Missouri on Saturday, January 9, More information will be posted on the MPHC website soon. Click on Awards Banquet. The point standings for year-end are posted on the website and will be updated after each show. REMEMBER, all horses must be nominated to qualify for year-end awards.

5 Attention: APHA Members For those of you who check your APHA points online, please be advised that effective October 1, 2009, member access fee transitions will be increased from $15 to $25 annually. In addition, membership fees, effective January 1, 2010, will increase as follows: 1-YEAR MEMBERSHIP transitions from $35 to $40 annually 3-YEAR MEMBERSHIP transitions from $75 to $90 5-YEAR MEMBERSHIP transitions from $125 to $150 LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP transitions from $400 to $500 AjPHA MEMBERSHIP transitions from $15 to $20 annually. Labor Day Weekend: Two 4-Judge PORs for a total of 8 Judges with the Missouri Breeders Futurity and Show Me Shootout on Sunday. ** On a Personal Note ** MPHC was well represented at the Reichert Celebration. Congratulations on Tracy Billings who was High Point Novice Amateur and to Morrison Harrison who was the Reserve High Point Novice Youth. This is the second consecutive year that Tracy was High Point Novice Amateur at the Reichert.

6 Congratulations to Cody Franklin and Mr. Fancy Impression on their recent accomplishments. Mr. Fancy Impression received his Superior in Open Color on June 14 th and Cody received his Youth Superior In Hunter Under Saddle on May 23 rd. Also, Cody had great success at the recent Missouri 4-H show, along with many other MjPHC members. This was Cody's final year competing in the 4-H Horse Show he has participated in the Missouri State Fair Horse Show since he was 8, taking 4 different horses with him throughout the years to the fair. On a special note this year, Cody took a first time 4-H'er & first time horse owner & trained her & her horse in preparation for the show. She was reserve champion in walk trot showmanship, and a finalist in walk trot horsemanship & western pleasure. This was a special accomplishment for both Cody & Daisy. 1st - Western Pleasure (State Champion 3 yrs in row). 1st - English Equitation 3rd - Showmanship 3rd - Horsemanship 4th - Reining 5th - Trail 5th - HUS Congratulations to the following MjPHC members who placed in their specific age groups.
