Take time to DISCOVER with family and friends all that 4-H is offering in the weeks and months to come. Don t miss out on your 4-H DREAMS. Apply for 4-H and Fair Royalty, Scholarships and more. DO mark your calendars for dates and times to assist you in this endeavor. Remember there is no specific Fair theme this year. 4-H Clubs are encouraged to incorporate Clark County s Bicentennial and the 4-H theme Dream, Discover, Do the 4-H Way in the decorations that you DO for club booths, barns, stalls, etc. We can t wait to see what you DREAM up for Fairgoers to DISCOVER. Office Who: At least one 4-H Club advisor from any club that enrolled shooting sports members for What: Training to cover project judging, fundraisers to support shooting sports program, required paperwork, safety, etc. Food Safety Training When: Wed., April 25, 2018 Time: 6 PM-8 PM Where: Clark Co. Ext. Office Who: 4-H volunteers from any club wishing to dip ice cream at the Fair, serve or sell food as a fundraiser including bake sales, etc. The fundraiser features tasting stations, live music, local foods and beverages, a silent auction and more. 4-H alumni, volunteers, parents, grandparents & community supporters are encouraged to purchase individual, couples or table tickets using the above website or QR code. Share the event with co-workers, friends and family, 18 and older, who want to support growing the next 4-H generation. Silent Auction Items Needed for Taste of 4-H Every 4-H Club is encouraged to help support the legacy celebration by providing a basket for the Silent Auction and/or items/services to be included in the Silent Auction. Come up with a theme for your basket like Buckeye Fan, Grill in & Chill in, Date Night, Game Night, Gardening Guru, Chocolate Lovers, etc. Baskets, gift cards, certificates for services and other items for the Silent Auction need to be brought to the Clark County Extension Office by Tuesday, May 8. 4 Page Quality Assurance Requirements All 4-H and FFA members must participate in a quality assurance program no later than June 4 to show at the Clark County and/or Ohio State Fair with any of the following projects: Market Beef, Market Lambs, Market Goats, Market Hogs, Market Dairy Steers, Meat Chickens, Meat Turkeys, Market Ducks, Market Rabbits, Lactating Dairy Cows and/or Lactating Dairy Goats. 4-H members may attend any of the countywide quality assurance programs or one of the club quality assurance programs, even if it is not your 4-H club. Clark County 4-H Clover Graham 2018 Rabbit & Cavy Registration Day When: Sat., April 14 Time: 9 AM-11 AM Where: Youth Building, Clark Co. Fairgrounds What: All 4-H and FFA members planning on showing rabbits and cavy projects at the Clark County Jr. Fair. Rabbits must be tattooed or have tattoos read by the Clark County 4-H Rabbit, Poultry & Cavy Committee on this date. Cavies must be tagged or have tags read by the committee. If you plan to show a meat rabbit or fancy litters, you must bring the buck and doe to be I.D. Cost: $2 per rabbit or cavy Form: Available at under 4-H Youth Development and then Applications and Forms 2018 Livestock I.D. Day When: Sat., May 12 Required for all 4-H & FFA members wanting to show any of the following at the 2018 Clark County Jr. Fair. Dairy Feeders: 8 AM to 11 AM, Cattle Arena, $10/feeder. Member may tag 5 feeders, show 2 and sell 1. Market Lambs: 9 AM to 11 AM, Sheep Arena, $3/lamb. Member may tag 5 lambs, show 5 and sell 1. Market Goats: 9 AM to Noon, Goat Barn, $4/goat. Member may tag 3 goats, show 2 and sell 1. All market goats and market lambs must have a scrapie tag prior to being brought to the Livestock I.D. Day. This tag should have been placed in the animal s ear by the producer prior to your purchase.

The Clark County 4-H Horse Committee has some great opportunities for youth to gain riding experience with their upcoming shows and clinics. Office. Horse Lease Agreements: Members leasing horses must file a Horse Lease Agreement & Horse I.D. Form with the Extension Office by May 1. Club Horse I.D. Form: All clubs with horse projects (including donkeys and mules) must complete their club s Horse I.D. Form and submit to the Extension Office by May 1. Horse Safety: Reminder all first year horse project members and their parent(s)/guardian(s) must attend a Horse Safety Program prior to being involved in any 4-H horse activity. If you did not attend the Horse Safety Training on March 17 at the Extension Office, you will need to attend one conducted by the Horse Advisor in your club no later than April 15, 2018.

6 Page 6 Clark County 4-H Clover Graham Meat Chicken & Meat Duck Orders All 4-H & FFA members planning on showing meat chickens and/or meat ducks at the 2018 Clark County Jr. Fair must order their day old birds from the Clark County 4-H Rabbit & Poultry Committee. Orders are due with payment by May 7. Minimum of 6 meat chickens ($3/bird) and minimum of 3 ducklings ($4/duck). Pick up chicken/duck orders on Thursday, June 7, 4-7 PM at the Clark County Extension Office. Note this is a date change! You will soon be able to start making entry on-line for this year s 2018 Clark County Jr. Fair using Fair Entry. The site is not live yet. We will send out an and text message blast, post on clark.osu.edu and clarkcoag.com as well as the Face Book pages when the site becomes live for you to make Clark County Fair entries. Fair Entry allows you to make entry from anywhere and for us to update and access it from anywhere. All you need is an internet connection. You can use a smart phone, tablet or computer to make your entries. We know that everyone has a different comfort level with technology. Farm Forum Centerpieces Thanks to all the 4-H clubs, members and teen leaders that submitted centerpieces for Congressman Davidson s request to use at Farm Forum. Congratulations to Agle s Eager Beavers, Zackery Rinehart and the Clark Co. 4-H Camp Counselors for being recognized with outstanding honors. A cash award will be awarded to these groups by the Clark County 4-H Committee. All centerpieces submitted will be used on the tables at the Taste of 4-H...Toast to Graham event on May 10.

12 Page 12 Clark County 4-H Clover Graham Safety and Welfare of 4-H Youth Ohio 4-H has always placed a priority on the safety and welfare of the youth we serve. Since 2002, criminal fingerprint background checks were required of all new 4-H volunteers. OSU Policy 1.50 now requires all 4-H volunteers to complete a BCI fingerprint background check every 4 years and sign the Standards of Behavior annually. 4-H volunteers who needed to submit to a BCI fingerprint re-check this year were notified by letter. The Ohio State University is reimbursing 4-H volunteer background checks in full. All 4-H volunteers must keep their receipt and submit to the OSU Extension, Clark Co. Office with their completed reimbursement form found on the web at clark.osu.edu under 4-H and then volunteers. 4-H Volunteers are Required Child Abuse Reporters! In the course of your 4-H volunteer duties, you witness abuse or neglect or have information that leads you to suspect a child faces a substantial threat you must follow the OSU Policy 1.50 reporting procedures to the right. Abuse and Neglect Warning Signs Sexual Abuse - when a person uses power and directly involves the child in any sexual act, involves the child in pornography, or forces the child to witness sexual acts. Unusual sexual knowledge or behavior Child-to-child sexual contact Bruises on inner thighs or other no touch areas Fear of being alone with a certain person Physical Abuse - any physical injury inflected other than by accidental means Unexplained bruises or burns Fear of going home or with a certain person Physical force to correct behavior Emotional Abuse - a pattern of harmful interactions between an adult and child such as criticizing, belittling, and rejecting. Not eating or overeating at meals Extreme nervous habit behaviors Parent/child interactions -- name calling/inappropriate language Neglect - the failure of an adult to provide for a child s basic, educational or medical needs (i.e. - food, shelter, supervision, and clothing) Stealing food Poor hygiene Dirty clothes or with numerous stains and/or tears Low body weight Clark County 4-H Volunteers Child Abuse or Neglect Reporting Procedures Immediately Phone FIRST Call to (child in imminent danger) or Children Services (child not in imminent danger) , SECOND Call to Ohio State University Police at Tell them you are a Clark County 4-H volunteer and are calling to report abuse per OSU Policy THEN Contact Clark Co. 4-H Extension Educator, Patty House at house.18@osu.edu to assist you in completing an official written report to submit to OSU Office of Human Resources within one business day. Tips to Help Protect Children and Yourself Recognize and understand signs of child abuse. Be alert and act on your suspicions. Know the procedure for reporting child abuse. Always use proper touches when working with children. Some examples include: hand to shoulder contact, side by side hugs, pats on the head, high fives, handshakes, eye contact, smiles. Only use physical restraint in situations when a child puts herself/himself or others in danger. Avoid one-on-one interactions. Don t be alone in private spaces with a child.
