20 TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN HOME AND THE STATE FAIR General Encampment Transportation: Bus transportation will be provided departing from the Carver County Extension Office on Tuesday, August 29 at 2:30 pm. PLAN TO BE AT THE EXTENSION OFFICE BETWEEN 1:45 2:00 P.M., SO WE CAN BE ALL CHECKED IN AND READY TO LEAVE BY 2:30 P.M. For the return trip on Thursday, August 31, the bus will leave the fairgrounds at approximately 3:00 p.m. Please arrange to be picked up from the Extension Office that day. Please designate on form 1 page 3 inside this booklet if you and your project need transportation to and from the State Fair. Livestock Encampment Transportation: Livestock will be loaded in Waconia at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m., and be taken immediately to the state fair. Please have your animals at the Carver fairgrounds by 10:45 a.m. so they can leave promptly. Livestock will return home on Sunday, August 27. Animals are released at 3:00 p.m., so the exact loading time is difficult to determine. Phone calls will be made when the truck leaves the State Fairgrounds. Please indicate on the transportation form inside this booklet if your animals need transportation to and from the state fair. We have arranged for livestock transportation, but you may choose to transport the animals yourself. If you haul your own livestock, remember they must arrive at the State Fair between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23. Carver County animal exhibitors will have an orientation meeting on Wednesday, August 23 at 4:45 p.m. outside the Dairy Barn on the bleachers in front of the large milking demonstration window. Note: If you choose to have your animals transported to the fair with another family, you may want to check into purchasing liability insurance in the event of an accident. If a 4-H parent or volunteer offers to transport livestock, it is at his/her own personal risk. Livestock Exhibitors Bus transportation will not be available. A list of exhibitors and phone numbers will be ed out to you prior to state fair so you may communicate with each other in advance. Parents/volunteers, please note that the vehicle owner is always responsible for their vehicle. The owner s insurance follows the vehicle no matter who is driving. The University of Minnesota is not liable in an accident situation for the vehicle or its contents. Lama Transportation: There will be transportation provided for your llamas. They can enter the State Fairgrounds at noon on Wednesday, August 30 and must be in place by 3:00 p.m. They will be released on Friday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. Please read the State Fair Premium Book carefully for the complete schedule of the lama activities. Transportation will not be provided for exhibitors. 20

33 PICKING UP YOUR EXHIBITS AFTER THE FAIR Exhibits will not be released from the state fair until 9:00 p.m. on Labor Day. Items will be brought to the Extension office for you to pick up on Wednesday, September 6. Please come and pick up your project as soon as possible. We will keep your projects until Friday, September 18, and then we will donate them, or throw out, as appropriate. Vegetable gardening, food review, perishable foods in foods and nutrition, fashion review garments, demonstration supplies, Share the Fun supplies and Arts-In supplies will not be on display during the state fair. Please bring these items with you to judging during the encampment. 33
