4 Saratoga County 4-H Robotics teams shine at Red Hook Qualifier Both Saratoga County 4-H Clubs/FTC teams competed on December 11th at the Red Hook Qualifier. HazMatrix FTC team #11607 is a first year FTC team consisting of Josh Holbrook, Julia Holbrook, Josh Goldstein and Cole Mead. They are coached by Jim Holbrook. Robovines FTC team #6955 is a 4th year team with rookie members this year of Shane Thrasher, Zachary Dumais and Zane Swatling. They are coached by Lisa and Tyler Russell and mentored by Devin Russell and Shane Roy. Both RoBovines and HazMatrix performed awesomely! After the qualifying rounds, RoBovines sat in 3rd place, and HazMatrix in 4th place out of 15 teams. This meant that both would be headed to the semi-finals as captains. HazMatrix put up a good fight, but were defeated in the semis. RoBovines made it all the way to the finals, where they fell to a tough #1 ranked alliance. It was an incredibly exciting way to end the matches! Both teams also came away with other awards. HazMatrix won the PTC Creo Design award, which is given to the team that incorporates industrial design elements into their solution. They were the only team at the competition who were able to do a specific task on the field. Robovines won 2nd place for the Connect Award for their many connections in the STEM community. Both teams look forward to competing again at the beginning of January. Is the 2017 Walkathon on Your Schedule? Time is Flying by and plans are already being made for the H Walkathon! The date is May 13, 2017 and we will once again hold the event at the Saratoga Spa State Park. The past three years have been terrific, and we are hoping to have another successful event. As always, the purpose of the walk is to raise funds to support our 4-H Training Center. It takes a great deal of money to maintain the Center and to pay for the heat and lights. A few hours of your time and your effort to get sponsors for the event are needed to make our event a success. Think about all of the activities that go on at the Training Center- meetings, training classes, school field days, the dog obedience classes, horse shows, shooting sports, hunter education, the Unlimited Garden Program, the Town of Milton Fishing Derby, and other special events. Where would all of these things happen without this one of a kind facility? In 2016 we raised over $10,000. The goal for 2017 is to raise $12,000! That can only happen if you participate. The top 10 youth walkers with the highest amounts of money pledged and collected (over $100) are eligible for various awards and prizes at Achievement Night. At our 2016 Achievement night we cozy 4-H blankets were handed out. Those winners were Alex Singer, Casey Felton, Reyna Racaza, Hannna LaPointe, Amanda Tracy, Kohlby Himelrick, Abagail Jordan, Noah Amann, Kennedy Rein, and Nathaniel Zink. Alex Singer, Casey Felton, and Reyna Racaza also received cash awards for collecting the most money in their age groups. Save The Date!
