8 CHARITY RUN AND HELP - IT S EASY! A total of 79 runners have purchased start numbers for the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon through not-forprofit organisations and in so doing also supported a good cause! Others help out indirectly through individual fundraising, raising money for specific charitable projects by taking part in races. The Run for a Good Cause project not only helps not-for-profit organisations raise funds but also brings runners joy in knowing they re doing something that will benefit others. In 2018, RunCzech will be collaborating with 10 not-for-profit organisations from all over the country. They presell start numbers for RunCzech races and use the funds raised for charitable causes. Centrum Hájek, z.s. is the main charity partner to the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. In addition to this traditional collaboration, RunCzech also works with the Civil Society Development Foundation (NROS) Help for Children and Česká televize s Catch a Star project which is endorsed by a number of well-known personalities (actors, singers, TV presenters). 13 ELITE ATHLETES - MEN IHOR OLEFIRENKO Took 30 th place in the 2016 Rio Olympics marathon. Proved himself at last year s Birell Prague Grand Prix and the Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon. Will be running in Karlovy Vary for the first time. HOUSSAME BENABBOU Finished in 58 th place at this year s Valencia Half Marathon. Is the fourth fastest half marathon runner in the field with a personal record of 1:03:35. Will be running in the Czech Republic for the first time. Country: Ukraine Country: Spain MEHDI FRERE At 21 years old is the youngest runner in the elite field. Achieved a personal best last year in the 10km Birell Prague Grand Prix. Will be running his second ever half marathon in Karlovy Vary. ONDŘEJ FEJFAR Has reaped success in recent years especially in mountain races last year he won the Czech Skyrunning Championships and came in 9 th at the Skyrunning European Championships. This year he was the second best Czech male at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon with a time of 1:07:18. Will be running the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon for the fourth time; in 2013 and 2014 was the best Czech male and in 2016 was beaten only by Milan Kocourek. 14 ELITE ATHLETES - MEN PAVEL KUBRIČAN Worked as a fitness trainer for Šárka Záhrobská-Strachová and is now training the USK Prague canoe slalom athletes. His brother Lukáš is a junior world kayak champion and World Cup medal winner. This year, he took 2 nd place at the Pečky 10km and was the 5 th best Czech male at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. JIŘÍ PETR Ran his half marathon personal best (1:10:09) last autumn in Košice. Next year the Brno runner will turn 40. This year he was the 6 th best Czech male runner at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. Country: Czech Republic Country: Czech Republic TOMÁŠ NAVRÁTIL Came 5 th in last year s half marathon at the Czech Athletics Championships. Is a qualified engineer and works in construction. Will be running in Karlovy Vary for the first time. JAN SOKOL Races for Sokolov Athletics Club. Achieved his personal half marathon record of 1:12:21 in 2010 in Prague. In April she beat the Czech half marathon record by one second with a time of 1:11:01 at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. OLHA KOTOVSKA Represented Ukraine at the Rio Olympic Games in Finished 7th in last year s Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. Came third in this year s Naples Half Marathon. She is treating this year s Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon as a warm-up for the European Championships in Berlin this August. Country: Czech Republic CLARA SIMAL Comes from Madrid. Is a qualified architect. Her performance of 2:33:10 at this year s Seville marathon qualifies her for the World Championships in August. Country: Ukraine NEJA KRŠINAR Won the Ferrara Half Marathon in Italy last year. Has won Slovenian races multiple times, from the 3000m to the half marathon. 17 ELITE ATHLETES - WOMEN VAIDA ZUSINAITE Came 38 th in the marathon at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Finished in 45 th place in the 2017 World Championships in London. Will be running in Karlovy Vary for the first time. JENNY SPINK Won the Great Bristol Half Marathon in Last year she came 22nd in the London Marathon. Will be running in the Czech Republic for the first time. Country: Lithuania PETRA KAMÍNKOVÁ Has amassed an unbelievable 42 championship titles in athletics. Has trained alone since Has not yet missed a single year of the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon and has always been on the winners podium for Czech female runners. She has won for the past three years. Country: Great Britain IVANA SEKYROVÁ Ran her first marathon in 2012 with a time of 2:34:23 in Rotterdam, getting her to the London Olympic Games. Works as a high school teacher in Sokolov, where she teaches PE and Citizenship Studies. Has not yet missed a single year of the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon and has always been on the winners podium for Czech female runners. She has finished second for the last three years. 18 ELITE ATHLETES - WOMEN KRISTÝNA DVOŘÁKOVÁ Studies medicine at Charles University in Prague. Was the second best Czech woman with a time of 1:16:55 at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. Improved her personal record in the 10,000m to 36:08 at the Czech Championships in April. MARCELA JOGLOVÁ Was not registered with an athletics club until this year, but is now with the University Sports Club at Charles University s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Prague. Was the third best Czech female at last year s Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. Was the second fastest Czech female in this year s Volkswagen Prague Marathon.
