The Press Guide, which you are holding in your hands, contains basic information for journalists about the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon. You will also find a short introduction of elite athletes including intermediate times leading to breaking records. We hope you find everything you need to cover this year s event, but please do not hesitate to ask anyone on the Press Team, if you need anything else. 8 CHARITY RUN AND HELP - IT S EASY! A total of 101 runners have purchased start numbers for the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon through not-for-profit organisations and in so doing also supported a good cause! Others help out indirectly through individual fundraising, raising money for specific charitable projects by taking part in races. The Run for a Good Cause project not only helps not-for-profit organisations raise funds but also brings runners joy in knowing they re doing something that will benefit others. In 2018, RunCzech is collaborating with 10 not-for-profit organisations from all over the country. They presell start numbers for RunCzech races and use the funds raised for charitable causes. RunCzech also works with the Civil Society Development Foundation (NROS) Help for Children and Česká televize s Catch a Star project which is endorsed by a number of well-known personalities (actors, singers, TV presenters). 12 ELITE ATHLETES - MEN ELITE ATHLETES - MEN ROMAN ROMANENKO LUKE TRAYNOR He finished fourth at the Birmingham half marathon (UK) in In 2017 he was crowned Ukrainian half marathon champion. He triumphed at the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon held in May. He hails from the Scottish city of Glasgow, though studied at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma in the United States. He finished 38 th place at this year s World Half Marathon Championships. He ran a personal best time of 1:01:57 at the Barcelona half marathon held this February. Country: Ukraine OLEKSANDR SITKOVSKIY He finished 12 th in the marathon held as part of the 2012 London Olympics. He finished fourteenth at last year s Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. He finished as the fourth best European at the 2018 Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. Country: Great Britain VALENTIN PFEIL Triple Austrian half marathon champion. 13 ELITE ATHLETES - MEN IHOR OLEFIRENKO He finished thirteenth place in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He competed at last year s Birell Prague Grand Prix as well as the Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon where he finished fifth. JIŘÍ HOMOLÁČ At the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon 2018 he once again finished as the best Czech (1:04:33) With his time of 2:20:09, he finished as the best Czech (9 th place overall) at the Volkswagen Prague Marathon in May. He ran his personal best time of 2:17:51 in Prague in He finished as the second fastest Czech at this year s Volkswagen Prague Marathon. PETR PECHEK With five victory titles under his belt, he is the most successful marathon runner in Czech history. He s never earned a living from running and works as a programmer. He ll be running the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon for the fifth time; he finished second among the Czechs in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and went on to secure first place last year. She is four-times Italian half marathon champion. SVIATLANA KUDZELICH She represented Belarus in the 3000m at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. She finished eleventh in the 3000m race at the 2016 World Indoor Championships. She finished ninth at this year s Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon making a new personal best of 1:11:45. SONIA SAMUELS She finished sixteenth place in the marathon at the 2013 World Championships. She also ran the marathon at the Rio Olympics, where she finished thirteenth place. 18 ELITE ATHLETES - WOMEN KRISTÝNA DVOŘÁKOVÁ She s a 3 rd year medical student at Charles University. With a time of 1:16:55 she finished second fastest Czech woman at this year s Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. She then went on to pick up another second place at the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. At the Czech National Championships held in April she managed to enhance her m personal best to 36:08. ANEŽKA DRAHOTOVÁ She ran her personal best of 1:14:25 at eighteen years of age at the 2014 Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. She finished sixth best Czech woman at last year s Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon. She finished sixth in the walking race at the World Race Walking Championships held in China this May. Country: Czech Republic Country: Czech Republic MARCELA JOGLOVÁ Was not registered with an athletics club until this year, but is now with the University Sports Club at Charles University s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Prague. Was the second fastest Czech female in this year s Volkswagen Prague Marathon. Was the third best Czech female at Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon VALERIE SOUKUPOVÁ She was the fastest Czech woman at the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon in She ran her personal best time of 1:15:58 at 2016 s Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. 19 ELITE ATHLETES - WOMEN IVANA SEKYROVÁ She ran a time of 2:34:23 in her first marathon in Rotterdam in 2012 which saw her qualify for the London Olympics. She teaches physical education and civil education at a grammar school in Sokolov. She ran the Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon in 2012, 2013 and 2017, winning on all occasions. RADKA CHURÁŇOVÁ She has taken part in all Mattoni České Budějovice Half Marathon race years so far; finishing second best Czech woman on four occasions and third best once. She won this year s 100 km race held as part of the Czech National Championships. She finished fourth at the Belfast marathon held in May. Country: Czech Republic Country: Czech Republic
