2 FACT SHEET FACILITY Maddox Track at Barron Stadium: Eight-lane, 400-meter track with a Beynon BSS 2000 surface, Lynx Timing System and Jumbo-Tron scoreboard and results. The throws center, a new 10 acre facility, is located one mile away from Barron Stadium. A shuttle will be available to transport individuals to and from the venues. TEAM PARKING The team parking area will be on the levee across the street from Historic Barron Stadium. Please Rochelle Black (rblack@shorter.edu) in advance if your team will be traveling in vans or a bus. SPECTATORS Spectators will be charged $5 admission to the event. Children under 12-years-old will be $2. Children under 5 years of age are free. Those with a valid college ID will also be admitted for free. CLERKING AREA The Clerking Area will be located to the left of the main entrance of the track by the 110-meter hurdle starting line. Hip numbers can be collected at that area. The clerk will bring the contestants to the line prior to the race; please check in no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of each respective event. WEIGH-IN(S) Implement weigh-in will be under the stadium on the home side of Barron Stadium. Friday: Weigh-in will be open from 10 am to 11:30 am and the weigh-in for the hammer will be from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Saturday: Weigh-in will be open from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. ENTRY PROCEDURE All entries will be spot checked through TFRRS. All entries will be done through Direct Athletics (directathletics.com) and are due by 11:59 pm on Monday, April 25. According to the Mid-South Conference by-laws, A student-athlete who submits a time or mark better than he/she has actually run in the year of the Conference will be DQ from the meet in all events. A time or mark achieved in the previous indoor season may be used in events that are held in the Conference meet. Each student-athlete must have an FAT time or certified mark to get seeded in the meet. He/she can still compete in an event without his/her mark, but must be entered as NT or NM. SCORING 1st: 10 pts; 2nd: 8 pts; 3rd: 6 pts; 4th: 5 pts; 5th: 4 pts; 6th: 3 pts; 7th: 2 pts; 8th: 1 pt AWARDS All-Conference will consist of the first place winners of each event. These student-athletes will be awarded plaques. First place through eighth place will be recognized at the meet with medals being awarded to the first through third place finishers in each event. Man and Woman Athlete of the Year will be awarded to the top point scorer of the meet for each gender. Men and Women s Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the conference coaches following the meet. TEAM AREA Team tents may be placed in visitor side stands only and grass areas designate for visiting teams. All tents must be tied down in bleachers and staked down in grass area for safety, no exceptions. TRAINER A trainer will be available at the trainer tent near the finish line. Please inform Phillip Hardy (phardy@floyd.org) in advance if your team will be bringing a trainer. If you are not bringing any trainers, please send a letter detailing the exact treatment needed for your student-athlete. 2

3 FACT SHEET LOCKER ROOMS/SHOWERS Locker rooms will not be available. Please plan accordingly. Shower arrangements, if desired, must be made by April 23. Please contact Rochelle Black RULES NCAA rules will be used for the meet. BANQUET The banquet will be held at the Winthrop King Centre Gym at 7:30 pm. Dress is semi-formal. All coaches need to Rochelle Black with an exact number of people expected to be in attendance at the banquet by April 22. The cost for the meal will be $10 per person. The meal will consist of pasta, meat, veggies, salad, dessert and drink. Checks may be made out to Shorter University Athletics and may be paid upon arrival. BREAKFAST AT SHORTER For teams looking to have a hot breakfast on campus, the price will be $6 per person. Those who wish to have breakfast will need to contact Rochelle Black with an exact number of people (a minimum number of 100 must be met in order to provide this meal). The breakfast will include, but is not limited to: Waffles Eggs Bacon Sausage Grits Oatmeal Cereal Milk Juice DINNER AT SHORTER Teams looking to have a Saturday dinner at Shorter before heading home will need to contact Rochelle Black with an exact number. The price will be $6 per person. 6 CHECK-IN PROCEDURES FIELD EVENTS Field athletes will check-in at their event. Athletes may begin the check-in 60 minutes prior to the start time for their event. Throwing implements will be brought to the field venue by officials. 1st Call 2nd Call Last Call 60 minutes prior to the start time Athletes may begin the check-in at their event site. 45 minutes prior to the start time If your event is at the throws center, a shuttle will be taking passengers throughout the meet. A schedule will be set the week of the meet. It will pick up and drop off all passengers at the front of Barron Stadium. 30 minutes prior to the start time Athletes must be checked-in by this time or they will be scratched from the event. RUNNING EVENTS Runners will check-in with the Clerk of Course. Hip numbers will be given to the runner at that time. Runner may begin the check-in 60 minutes prior to the start time for their event. Relay cards must be presented to the Clerk of Course in order for a relay team to check-in. Relays will not be able to check-in without a card. 7 IMPORTANT REMINDERS RULES NAIA Track and Field is administered using the following sources of information: 1. The NAIA Track and Field Coaches Manual 2. The respective NAIA Indoor/Outdoor Games Committee Manuals 3. The NAIA Policy and Procedures Handbook 4. NAIA Track and Field Casebook 5. The NCAA Track and Field Rule Book OPENING CEREMONIES Will take place at approximately 11:45 am on Saturday, April 28. They will include the National Anthem, Invocation, then Shorter Senior Recognition. CREDENTIALS Please include the names of all coaches, sports information and medical personnel you want to receive credentials to Rochelle Black at HEAT/FLIGHT ASSIGNMENTS Athletes must compete in the heats/flights they are assigned or be disqualified from the meet. Any appeals pertaining to this issue must be submitted in writing by a head coach to the Jury of Appeals/Games Committee within 30 minutes of the infraction. EVENT CHECK-IN Competitors must report to the Clerk of Course to be checked in for their event. Competitors not checked in by the appropriate time will be scratched from the event. Details regarding the check-in procedures are provided in this coach s packet. Please make sure you communicate those procedures to the competitors. RELAY CARDS Relay cards must be turned into the Clerk of Course before the start of the event or the team will be scratched. Competitors will not be allowed to check into the event without the relay card. Details regarding the check-in procedures are provided in this coach s packet. Extra relay cards will be available at the Clerk of Course station. ELECTRONIC DEVICES No cameras, cell phones or electronic devices of any kind will be allowed in competition areas. This includes cameras, headsets, cell phones, etc. UNIFORMS In all competition, competitors must wear the proper uniform of the institution they represent in the championships. All applicable rules as printed in the NCAA Track and Field Rule Book shall be followed. Uniform rules apply to all events. MEDICAL/TRAINING FACILITY Located on the west side of the warm-up area. Certified trainers will be provided by Shorter University, and will be stationed throughout the venue. 7

8 NAIA TRACK AND FIELD RULES AND REGULATIONS From the NAIA Track and Field Coaches Manual... Track and field rules as specified in the NCAA Men s and Women s Track and Field/Cross Country Rule Book shall be followed. To receive a copy, contact NCAA Publishing, P.O. Exception By vote of the TFCA and CAA approval, effective fall 2007 NAIA track and field adopted the following honest participation rule in lieu of the Failure to Participate Rule which was adopted by the NCAA in (Rule 4-2-2): 1. Athletes must partipate honestly in all trials and finals of all track or field events in which they legally are declared or they shall be barred from all remaining events in the current meet. Athletes must compete with maximum effort and/or qualify from trials into the finals. 2. Athletes must participate honestly in the finals of all events in which they are legally declared and qualified, and in which such participation is criteria for entry in a subsequent meet. Note 1: It is understood that passing on trials in field events is a strategy available in those events and is not considered a question of honest effort, provided at least one trial has been made. Note 2: Failure to complete a combined event competition shall not affect subsequent participation in an open event. NAIA modifications to NCAA rules may be implemented by the appropriate Games Committee with input from NAIA-TFCA. At the Mid-South Conference Track and Field Championships, enforcement of the Honest Effort Rule will be administered as follows: 1) The medical doctor/certified trainer shall examine injured competitors and make recommendations to the competitor, the competitor s coach and the representative of any sponsoring organization as to the advisability of continued participation by the competitor in the meet. Such recommendations shall be considered in the application of the Honest Effort Rule. 2) Should the decision be made to withdraw the competitor from the current event, the competitor shall be scratched from any subsequent event(s) in the meet, unless otherwise approved to continue participation by the medical doctor/certified trainer. Note 3: If during the combined event an athlete participating in the combined event fails to participate in another open event for which they are declared, that athlete will be allowed to finish the combined event, but will be barred from participation in any further event in the meet. The combined event will be treated as one continuous event. Note 4: If an athlete is declared in more than one event that is simultaneously being contested and fails to participate in one of the events, the athlete will be allowed to finish the event(s) they have been participating in, but will be barred from further competition at the meet. Note 5: The Honest Effort Rule implies that competitors will compete honestly and with maximum effort. This is a judgement call made by the Umpires/Judges and directed to the Head Event Referee for a final ruling. If it is ruled that the athlete did not compete honestly and with maximum effort, the Head Event Referee shall warn and/or disqualify the athlete from the event and from the remainder of the meet. If the athlete is disqualified, a DQ will be posted in the results. Note 6: There are times when an athlete will not finish an event for legitmate reasons. Examples would include a false start or a fall. This should be noted in the results as DNF (did not finish) and not confused with the Honest Effort Rule. However, all competitors who do not finish because of an injury must re-enter the meet through the medical re-certification process. Note 7: A DNS (did not start) in the event heat/flight reporting sheets will indicate that the athlete failed to report to the start of an event and will be listed in the final results as a DNS. A DNS means the athlete will be barred from further competition at the meet unless approved for further competition by the respective Head Event Referee. Note 8: Once the championship has started, if a Games Committee decision to alter the meet schedule causes a conflict for an athlete declared in another event, the athlete will not be penalized for missing the other event. 8
