1 2014 Class A Area Meet Hosted By First Presbyterian Day School Coaches, We are looking forward to the Class A Area Meet. Included are some important materials for you to look over before the meet. Admission: Admission will be $5.00 for all spectators. Directions to the School: Our physical address is 5671 Calvin Drive. From the South (Savannah/Augusta): Take 75 North to Exit 172 (Bass Rd). Take a left off of the exit and travel 3.8 miles (Straight all the way). Bass Rd. eventually becomes Foster Rd. Turn right onto Calvin Drive. Our campus will be on your right. I am attaching a campus map that shows the location of the track as well as parking lots available around the school. Cars and buses may park in any of these lots. NO ONE is allowed to park on the road. From Columbus: (I have attached directions to the ) Medals/Trophies: At the end of the meet, we will announce 1 st place finishers in each event. Top 2 teams (girls and boys) will be announced and awarded trophies. We will also give out a high point award to the individual girl and boy who score the most points during the meet. Ribbons will be given to 1 st -8 th place finishers in each event (these will be given to the coach at the end of the day in an envelope). Entries: All entries will be done on the MileSplit website. The link for this meet is: You should have already received forms to fill in this information as well. Please or fax this back to me and bring a copy of this to the coaches meeting Tuesday morning. Substitutions: There can be name changes made that morning at the coaches meeting, but after the meeting, no other changes may be made. You may run any of the six names listed on your relay entries in your relay teams (these will be turned in at the coaches meeting as well). How you can help: Coaches assigned field events need to run those events. If you have a question or problem, Dick Moss or Rennie Atkinson will assist you. We will cover referee information at the coaches meeting.

2 Uniforms/Jewelry: Make sure that your athletes are wearing regulation uniforms and that they do not compete while wearing any jewelry. Watches are not considered jewelry by the national federation. We also must abide by GHSA and national federation rules, so please advise your athletes about electronic devices and some of the other newer rules. (No electronic devices are allowed inside the infield). Also, please relay that information to your parents. Athletes are not allowed to view any video during the course of competition. Doing so will result in disqualification from the event. Facilities: We will have concessions and bathrooms available. We have a warmup field adjacent to the track. We ask you to please keep your athletes off the infield and away from the timing system, finish line, jumping areas, and pole vault pit once the running events start. Scoring: (all events) Results: Results for the top eight places will be announced and complete results will be posted. Competition Area: During Field events The roped off areas are for competitors and officials only. Field event officials please enforce. In the pole vault a coach is allowed to be the pole catcher. During Running events No one is allowed near the finish line area unless checking in to run or to referee. Area Meet Time Schedule: Class 1A (No running events will start before the conclusion of the field events. The running schedule will be modified if necessary due to the timing of the field events finish. All running events will be in the order: Private School Girls, Private School Boys Saturday, April 20, :15 a.m. Coaches Meeting in the Lobby of the MAC gymnasium. We will have signs posted to direct you to this area. It will be the building located beside the track, adjacent to the parking lot. 9:00am-9:30am-Implement check in/weighing. This will take place in the weight room in the back of the MAC gymnasium. There will be signs directing the athletes to this area. All implements that are approved will receive a special mark for it to be allowed in competition. All other implements will be kept by the field judge and will be returned to the proper school after the completion of field events. Any competitor may use any approved implement.

3 FIELD EVENTS: Three attempts will be allowed for all competitors. After three attempts, the top 8 competitors will be given two additional attempts (with the exception of pole vault and high jump). Pole Vault and high jump will only be given 3 attempts at each height. Top 4 finishers advance to Sectionals (jumps, vaults, and throws). 9:45am Girls Discus Throw, Girls Long Jump, Girls Pole Vault, Boys Shot Put, Boys High Jump, Girls 3200m Run, and Boys Triple Jump 10:30am Boys 3200m Run 11:00 a.m. Boys Discus Throw, Girls Shot Put, Girls High Jump, Boys Long Jump, Boys Pole Vault, Girls Triple Jump RUNNING EVENTS: (Running events will begin 15 minutes after the completion of field events. The running schedule may be may be adjusted, if needed, by Games Committee) 400 Meter Relay (2 Heats each girls/boys) 1600m Run (One heat of girls followed by one heat of boys) 400 Meter Dash (2 Heats each girls/boys) 100 Meter Dash (2 Heats each girls/boys) 100 Meter / 110 Meter Hurdles (2 Heats each girls/boys) 800 Meter Run (2 Heats each girls/boys) 200 Meter Dash (2 Heats each girls/boys) 300 Meter Hurdles (2 Heats each girls/boys) 15 minute break 1600 Meter Relay (2 Heats each girls/boys) We will try to keep the meet running on time. Awards will follow as soon as all results are finalized. We would like all teams to stay for the awards presentation. GHSA Recommended Opening Heights: (may be revised by Games Committee should quality of fields and / or weather conditions dictate) Boys Pole Vault 9 0 Boys High Jump 5 6 Girls Pole Vault 7 0 Girls High Jump 4 6 Additional Information from GHSA Seeding at Area Meet: Seeding in field events will be lowest to highest (best jumpers, throwers, vaulters go last). All field events will have three trials. Top 8 competitors will be allowed 2 additional attempts. Top 4 from each event will advance to Sectionals. In running events, top 8 performers will be placed in 2 nd heat (fastest), other 6 competitors will be placed in 1 st (slower) heat. Top 4 fastest times overall advance to Sectionals. All running events are finals. Please make sure the times you send in to MileSplit are legitimate times. This is how the seeding will be done.

4 Seeding at Sectional Meets (from Area Meets): Sectional Meet Seeding will be done by the GHSA after all Area Meet results have been submitted. All SEEDING at State Finals is based on Sectional Meet performances. State Meet Seeding will be done by the GHSA after all Sectional Meet results have been submitted. Seeding at State Finals (from Sectional Meets): Running Events: One Heat Finals for ALL events. Top 2 in each heat from Sectional Meet Seeded by Place first, then Time All other qualifiers from Sectional Meet seeded by time only Field Events: (Horizontal Events: Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, and Discus) All entries seeded by distance/height, in reverse order, worst to best Trials and Finals with competitors receiving three additional attempts in Finals. Competitors will be reordered worst to best for the finals. Field Events: (Vertical Events: Pole Vault and High Jump) All qualifiers seeded from worst to best. We will also have an appeals committee. Appeals may be made concerning the application of a rule ONLY. Judgment calls may not be appealed. Your request for an appeal should be made in a sportsmanlike manner to the referee at the time of notification of disqualification. If the appeal concerns viewing the tape of the finish of a race, notification of appeal should be made when the results of the race are recorded. Tapes will be reviewed by the appeals committee and referee during the break between the 300M hurdles and 4 X 400M relay. General rules: Athletes must report on time to their field event or to the clerk for running events. Athletes in simultaneous events must report to both events and follow the rules for simultaneous events. Athletes may be allowed to jump or throw out of order to aid in his/her finishing multiple events. Athletes will compete in 1 /8inch spikes and school issued track uniforms. Review your rule book on uniforms. No shorts nor shirts labeled with another sport are considered track uniforms. Uniforms must be kept on at ALL TIMES in the competition area. Removing any part of the uniform other than shoes in the competition area can result in disqualification from the event. No jewelry (except watches), metal hair clips, hats, nor sunglasses (unless they are prescription) are allowed while competing. Remind the third legs of your 4 X 100 M relay teams that they should stop and not continue to run up the track after passing the baton. Remind all relay team members that throwing a baton is a foul that gets the entire team disqualified.

5 Rules against foul language and poor sportsmanship will be strictly enforced (Make sure to review these before the meet.) 4 competitors from each event will move on to the sectional meet. It is required that all ties for fourth place be broken. Ties will be broken in the high jump and pole vault using the same procedure as the rule book specifies for breaking first place ties. A jump off may be necessary. Ties in running events usually involve the sprints, and a run-off may be necessary (if two times for fourth place are EXACTLY the same). All timing will be done by our electronic timing system, and pictures will be recorded at the finish line. If necessary, the run-off will be held at the end of the meet.
