Antony Hobwana has shown that he is the sophomore standout on the men s team after hitting the provisional in two events. Hobwana qualified in the 400 meters at the 49er classic. The following weekend at the Fred Hardy Invite, he set the meet record and made provisional in the 100 meter dash. Dontave Cowsette met the provisional standard at the 49er Classic in the 800 meter run. In the distance events, Teddy Miller made provisional at the 49er Classic in the 5000 meter run. Also at the Fred Hardy Invite, Brandon Turner met provisional in the triple jump. Garrett Larkin and Dan Kwiatkowski met 2009 standards in the shot put at the 49er Classic and improved their marks at the Fred Hardy Invitational. Kurt Barnhart hit the provisional in the discus at the Fred Hardy Invite. Matt Raquet met provisional in the javelin at the 49er Classic. A number of female athletes have already hit Big East Championship qualifying standards as well. At the 49er Classic held March 19-20, Cambrya Jones made Big East provisional in the 100 meter dash and Mycaiah Clemons in the 400 meter hurdles. Also at the 49er Classic, Anita James met the provisional in the triple jump and surpassed that mark at the Fred Hardy Invitational held on March The female throwers have seen success early in the season as Virginia Thistle, Alexis Wilder, and Robin Gilmore made provisional marks in the discus. Sarah Anderson met the provisional mark in the hammer throw. Javelin competitors Nicole Cherry, Kelsey Voltz, and Leah Ulizio have met qualifying standards as well. MURPHY AND CLEMONS WIN 2009 BIG EAST INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES Seniors Janessa Murphy and Mycaiah Clemons claimed Big East Indoor Championship titles in the long jump and the 60 meter hurdles respectively. The Indoor Championships took place on February at the Armory Track in New York City. Murphy leapt to first place with her mark of 6.29 meters in the long jump. Clemons won the hurdles in a time of 8.36 seconds. Both Murphy and Clemons hit NCAA provisional marks as well. Head Coach Alonzo Webb named one of 50 men of excellence University of Pittsburgh head coach Alonzo Webb was named one of the 50 Men of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier during the month of January. Webb was honored for his positive impact on the city of Pittsburgh. Those who were honored represented different sectors of Pittsburgh, from healthcare to eduction. An award ceremony was held at the Lexus Club in PNC Park.

Antony Hobwana ran a personal season best of in the 100 meter dash and earned an IC4A qualifying time. In the 800 meter run, Dontave Cowsette and Brione-Reid Carthan posted excellent times. The freshmen crossed the line in 1:54.51 and 1:54.64 respectively. For the women, Mycaiah Clemons came in eighth in the 100 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of seconds. Kaetlyn Brown posted a stellar time of seconds in the 400 meter dash, which was enough for 10th place. In the field events, Anita James took eighth in the triple jump with a leap of meters. Bison outdoor classic While some of their teammates competed in Tennessee at the Sea Ray Relays, other members of the track and field team were in Lewisburg, Pa. at Bucknell for the Bison Outdoor Classic. Folarjin Ijelu and Garrett Larkin led the men in the field after earning fourth place in their events. Ijelu earned fourth after posting a distance of 7.05 meters in the long jump, while Larkin s mark of meters in the shot put got him fourth. In the running events, Anthony Casciano took ninth for the men in the 400 meter dash in Idris Kasumu took third in the 100 meter dash with an IC4A qualifying time of For the women, Cambrya Jones and Raquel Bender earned ECAC qualifying times in the 100 meter dash and took second and fifth place. Jones finished in seconds while Bender clocked in at seconds. Jones also earned an ECAC qualifying time in the 200 meter dash after crossing the line in seconds. Wunmi Fapohunda and Janessa Murphy tied for second in the long jump with leaps of 5.60 meters. texas relays Several Pitt athletes traveled to Austin, Texas, to compete in the 82nd annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays that lasted April 1-4. Both the men and women made a good showing at the highly competitive meet, which consisted primarily of relays. The women participated in several relays and a few individual events. The 400- meter relay team of Mycaiah Clemons, Janessa Murphy, Da Lynn Mills and Raquel Bender came in 23rd with a time of Clemons was later joined by Kaitlyn Brown, Patricia Anyanwu and Brianna Broyles to take 29th in the 1600-meter relay. Mills, Brown, Anyanwu and Cambrya Jones also took part in the 1600 meter sprint medley that took 13th. The 4x200 meter relay team of Mills, Broyles, Bender and Jones captured fifth. Clemons had a successful meet as she took fifth in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles and garnered an NCAA regional qualifying time. The men had a successful meet as well. The 1600 meter relay team of Jerome Lowery, Dontave Cowsette, Antony Hobwana and Jermaine Lowery finished 14th with a time of 3: The 1600 meter relay team consisted of Brione Reid-Carthan, Cowsette, Jerome Lowery and Hobwana. The squad took 12th in the event. Cowsette and Reid-Carthan also competed in the open 800 meter run and finished fourth and 15th respectively. Eric Jones represented the men in the triple jump finishing 12th with a leap of meters.

3 PITT TRACK & FIELD duke invitational Just a handful of distance runners competed in the Duke Invitational as the track and field team split up to compete in three separate meets in one weekend. Gizelle Joshua led the Pitt women in the 800 meter run finishing in 13th with a personal season best time of 2: Miya Johnson and Kari Hedderick also broke the 2:20 mark finishing with times of 2:14.10 and 2:14.34 respectively. Four distance runners represented the Pitt men at Duke. Josh Christopher grabbed second in the 10,000 meters in 30: He was followed by Teddy Miller who took ninth, Curtis Larimer who took 11th, and Kyle Kaminski who finished 18th. Aggie relays The Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. was one of three meets that the Pittsburgh Panthers competed in the weekend of April 3 and 4. Greg Kareis came in second in the 3,000 meter run and broke the meet record set in Matt Norwood and John Morrow ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase and finished second and fifth respectively. In the field events, Matt Raquet led with a second place distance of meters in the javelin. His throw was also enough to beat the meet record. For the women, Melissa Vignetti grabbed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11: The jumpers also turned in some respectable marks. Kari Weimerskirch came in third place with a mark of 1.63 meters while Anita James grabbed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. In the throws, Nicole Cherry led the way by winning the javelin and setting a new meet record. Sarah Anderson added another second place for Pitt with a hammer throw of meters that also beat the meet record. In the pole vault, Tori Toso led the way finishing second as well. Pitt has successful meet in Richmond It was a weekend of success at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va as athletes captured a number of wins and hit championship qualifying standards. Antony Hobwana won the 100 meter dash and set the meet record with a time of Dontave Cowsette ran for first in the 800 meters with a time of 1: In the distance events, Greg Kareis led finishing third in the 1500 meter run in 3: The 4x400 meter relay team of Cowsette, Hobwana, Jermaine Lowery, and Jerome Lowery came in first place with a time of 3: In the field events, Brandon Turner captured first in the triple jump with a leap of meters. The Panthers took first and second in the shot put with Garrett Larkin s throw of meters and Dan Kwiatkowski s throw of meters. Larkin also took second in the hammer throw with a distance of meters. The women were just as successful. Janessa Murphy, Da Lynn Mills, Raquel Bender, and Kaetlyn Brown took first through fourth place respectively in the 100 meter dash. In the middle distance events, Kari Hedderick set the pace for the Panthers in the 800 meter run, finishing third with a time of 2: Gizelle Joshua finished fifth in 2:19.05, Miya Johnson was sixth with a time of 2:20.97, and Susan Martinez was seventh with a time of 2: Brianna Broyles was third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1: The 4x100 meter relay team of Da Lynn Mills, Janessa Murphy, Cambrya Jones, and Mycaiah Clemons crossed the finish line in seconds to grab first place. It was an excellent weekend for the women in the field events as well. Mills, Kari Weimerskirch, and Erinn McMahon took second, third, and fourth in the high jump. Janelle Adams finished fourth in the pole vault, while Shanae Thomas and Anita James finished third and fourth in the long jump with leaps of 5.50 and 5.49 meters respectively. Pitt took first and second in the javelin thanks to Nicole Cherry s first place throw of meters and Leah Ulzio s throw of meters. Sarah Anderson took fourth in the shot put with a distance of meters and second in the hammer throw with a mark of meters. panthers kick off the outdoor season at the charlotte 49er classic The Pitt track and field team made its transition into the 2009 outdoor season on March Athletes competed at the Irwin Belk Track and Field located on the Charlotte campus. The women captured four first place finishes total. Sarah Anderson won the hammer throw, Nicole Cherry the javelin, Anita James the triple jump, and Mycaiah Clemons the 400 meter hurdles. Garrett Larkin led the men with a second place throw in the shot put. Dan Kwiatkowski also competed in the shot put 3and placed fifth. Matt Raquet added a fifth place finish in the javelin. In the running events, Dontave Cowsette led with his third place performance in the 800 meter run. Teddy Miller also had a successful meet finishing sixth in the 5000 meter run and seventh in the 3000 meter run.
