1 W&J TRACK & FIELD SENIORS WRAP UP CAREER AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (5/23) Men's Results Women's Results MARIETTA, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson College seniors Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) and Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) both wrapped up their record-breaking careers this weekend at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships hosted at Marietta College's Don Drumm Stadium. Baumgard competed in the high jump event on Saturday and placed 12th in a field of 25 studentathletes. Baumgard, a five-time NCAA indoor/outdoor championship qualifier, posted a best leap of 5'2 ½" (1.59 meters). Hardin-Simmons senior Ashley Huston won the national high jump title with a stadium-record jump of 5'7" (1.70 meters). On Thursday, Jones was one of 17 competitors in the javelin event and notched ninth place with a best mark of 189'8" (57.81 meters). He missed out on the championship finals by one spot. Concordia (Wisc.) junior Brock Solveson claimed the national title and broke another stadium record. He collected a throw of 208'5" (63.52 meters). Baumgard and Jones are coached by four-time Presidents' Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Mark FitzPatrick. W&J HAS FOUR WINNERS AT BRIDGEWATER INVITATIONAL (5/13) BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Washington & Jefferson College had four individual winners on Wednesday at the Bridgewater College Invitational. No team scores were kept at the meet. The Presidents were led by senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren), who improved her NCAA qualifying mark after winning the high jump with a leap of 5'5 1/4". Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) won the 400 meters (58.96) and also claimed second in the 200 meters (26.39). Senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) crossed the finish line first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.82) and also notched second in the 400-meter hurdles (56.61). Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) rounded out the W&J winners with a firstplace showing in the shot put (46'2").

2 2009 PAC Field Athlete of the YearBUCKLEY AND FITZPATRICK EARN TOP HONORS AT PAC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS (4/25) NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College men placed second, while the women's squad claimed fourth place on Saturday at the 2009 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Westminster College at Harold Burry Stadium. The Presidents' men tied for their best showing in school history at the conference championships. Freshman Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) {left with PAC Executive Director Joe Onderko} was named the PAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year, while Head Coach Mark FitzPatrick earned the PAC Men's Coach of the Year award. FitzPatrick has been honored as a PAC Coach of the Year four times in his six years at the college. Grove City captured the men's championship with 208 points. W&J was second with 128 points followed by Thiel (122), Waynesburg (59), Westminster (47) and Bethany (26). Westminster won the women's championship with 143 points. Thiel and Waynesburg tied for second place with 123 points, while W&J was fourth with 80 points. Bethany (76) notched fifth place with 76, while Grove City (42) was sixth. Washington & Jefferson had five student-athletes earn a total of six conference championships, including four on the men's side. Buckley led the way with titles in the long jump (21'8 ½") and triple jump (44' 8 ½") events. Senior Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) won the javelin (186' 8 ½") and also notched runner-up laurels to Buckley in the triple jump (44'2 ¼"). Freshman Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) was the Presidents' final men's PAC Champion after topping the field in the 400-meter hurdles (56.32). The W&J women were led by senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) and sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who both collected conference titles. Baumgard provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships during her win in the high jump (5'5"), while McElhany took first place in the long jump (17'3 ½"). McElhany also took second in the 100-meter high hurdles (15.74). Freshman Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) had a solid all-around day in his first conference championship by posting the most total points by a PAC men's competitor. He posted a second-place finish in the long jump (21'3 ½) and third-place showings in the triple jump (43'9 ½") and 110-meter high hurdles (15.65). Senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) placed one spot ahead of French in the 110-meter high hurdles and earned Second Team All-PAC accolades after recording a time of

3 Senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) collected a pair of runner-up finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:01.72) and 5,000 meters (19:52.25). Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) crossed the finish line second in the 400 meters (57.86) and third in the 200 meters (26.71). Senior Megan Duffett (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also notched Second Team All-PAC accolades in the 10,000 meters (45:35.42). The Presidents continue their spring season in two weeks at the Allegheny Invitational W&J Invite 7JONES' SCHOOL-RECORD THROW LEADS W&J AT ED FRY INVITATIONAL (4/18) INDIANA, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College senior Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) set a school record in the javelin and earned first place to help the Presidents place fourth of 12 teams on Saturday at IUP's Ed Fry Track & Field Invitational. The W&J women claimed eighth place of 13 squads. IUP won both team titles after racking up 158 points in the men's standings and 127 in the women's competition. California (103), Grove City (102), W&J (71) and Seton Hill (67) rounded out the top five men's teams. Slippery Rock placed sixth with 58 points, while Bloomsburg (43), Saint Vincent (42), Waynesburg (32), Duquesne (15), Bethany (15) and West Liberty State (11) rounded out the standings. Clarion (102) placed second in the women's invitational followed by Slippery Rock (96), Seton Hill (71), California (66), Waynesburg (66), Bethany (63), W&J (54), Duquesne (38), Bloomsburg (34), Grove City (27), West Liberty State (19) and Saint Vincent (6). Jones set his school record in the javelin and improved his NCAA Division III provisionalqualifying mark with a throw of 203'5". He also placed eighth in the discus with a top mark of meters. Freshman Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) also collected an individual win after crossing the line first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.35). He also took seventh in the 200 meters (23.40). The W&J women were paced by sophomores Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Wuenstel earned second place in the 200 meters (26.44) and third place in the 100 meters (12.93). She also led the 4x400 meter relay to a third-place showing (4:12.57). McElhany claimed third place in the 100-meter hurdles (15.28) and joined Wunestel on the 4x400 relay. She also took sixth in the long jump (5.07 meters).

4 Senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) posted a second-place finish in the high jump (5'2"), while classmate Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) finished sixth in the 1,500 meters (5:03.73). Senior Brittany Anderton (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) notched fourth place in the triple jump (10.13 meters) and freshman Tierney Risley (Nassua, N.Y./Columbia) earned one team point after placing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.66). On the men's side, senior Travis Reline (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) collected a fourthplace finish in the 110-meter hurdles (16.66), while classmate Travis Bui-Klimke (Coraopolis, Pa./West Allegheny) finished one spot behind Wang in eighth place in the 200 meters (23.45) Freshman Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (57.10), while senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) was one spot behind in fourth (57.52). French also placed fifth in the triple jump (13.18 meters). Freshman Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) grabbed fourth place in the triple jump (13.19 meters) and sixth place in the long jump (6.24 meters). Junior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) notched an eighth-place showing in the shot put (41'11 ½"). The Presidents will now prepare for next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships which will be hosted by Westminster College W&J Invite 4 W&J MEN WIN PAC SOUTH QUAD; WOMEN PLACE FOURTH (4/15) BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's track and field team won the four-team Presidents' Athletic Conference South Quad Meet on Saturday at Geneva College. The W&J women placed fourth overall. W&J totaled 163 points on the men's side to outdistance Bethany (139). Waynesburg placed third with 93 points, while Geneva notched 80 points. Bethany was atop the women's team standings with 182 points and was followed by Waynesburg (169), Geneva (107) and W&J (55). The Presidents' men were led by freshman Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), who notched three victories. He won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.52), long jump (19'10 ¾") and triple jump (41'5"). Senior Travis Reline (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) won the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.59), while junior Daniel Barringer (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) placed first in the javelin (156'9"). Freshman Michael Shea (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) claimed the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:03.15) and sophomore Andrew Howard (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) crossed the line first in the 5,000 meters (16:33.28). The women's 4x100 relay team posted a victory in a time of Junior Amy Keegan (Newton, N.J./Newton) and freshmen freshman Tierney Risley (Nassua, N.Y./Columbia), Patience Kapfer (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) and Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) formed the winning relay. Kapfer also placed second in the 400 meters (1:06.08). Senior Megan Duffet (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also earned runner-up laurels in the 5,000 meters (20:43.87). Both W&J squads return to action on Saturday at the IUP Open W&J Invite 2PRESIDENTS TURN IN 4TH AND 5TH PLACE SHOWINGS AT RMU (4/11) MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men s and women s track and field teams both notched top-five finishes on Saturday at the Robert Morris University Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational. The W&J men placed fourth of eight squads, while the women s team garnered fifth place of nine squads. Robert Morris won both invitationals as the Colonials men posted 142 points, while the RMU women totaled 173 points. Carnegie Mellon placed second in the men s standings with 138 points followed by IUP (103), W&J (90), Thiel (77), California, Pa. (58), Geneva (26) and West Liberty (11). IUP (118) was the women s runner-up, while Thiel (113), CMU (53), W&J (47), West Virginia (42), California, Pa. (40), West Liberty (20) and Geneva (20) rounded out the standings. W&J had three individual champions during the meet. Seniors Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) and Justin Nock (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) earned titles for the W&J men, while sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) claimed the 800 meters (2:25.91) for the women s squad. Jones, who also placed third in the discus (136 3 ), won the javelin event ( ), while Nock took the high jump crown (6 0 3/4 ). Wuenstel also helped the 4x100 (52.63) and 4x400 (4:38.29) relay squads to third-place finishes. Wuenstel was competing in the 800 meters for only the second time in her career.

6 Freshman Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) claimed second place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.88), while senior Brittany Anderton (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) took fourth in the same event with a time of 1: Sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon- McMillan) turned in a third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (15.82) and then placed ninth in the long jump (16 4 1/4 ). Sophomore Laura Procario (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) set a personal-best time (13:24.67) during her third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and freshman Patience Kapfer (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) placed 12th overall in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5: Senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had a solid all-around day with a third-place showing in the 400-meter hurdles (58.01) and a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (16.05). On Wednesday, W&J travels to Geneva for the PAC South Quad Meet. The Presidents then travel to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday for the IUP Open at Miller Stadium. W&J CLAIMS THIRD AND SIXTH AT FOURTH ANNUAL INVITE (4/4) WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men s and women s track and field teams hosted their fourth annual invitational on Saturday at Cameron Stadium. Penn State- Behrend claimed both team titles as the Lion men garnered points, while the women totaled 97.5 points. Carnegie Mellon placed second in the men s standings with 117 points followed by W&J (106.5), Wheeling Jesuit (100), Denison (58), Saint Vincent (53), Seton Hill (44.5), Geneva (20), Franciscan (17), Roberts Wesleyan (16), Waynesburg (16), Duquesne (15.5) and Bethany (11). Seton Hill grabbed second place in the women s standings with 90 points. CMU placed third with 85 team points, while Roberts Wesleyan (81.5), Bethany (79.5), W&J (78.5), Duquesne (71.5), Waynesburg (58), Franciscan (36.5), Denison (23), Wheeling Jesuit (14), Geneva (13) and Saint Vincent Club (3) rounded out the standings. Sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won two events, while senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) placed first in the high jump (1.57 meters). McElhany crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65) and also won the long jump (5.42 meters). She qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in the long jump and improved her ECAC-qualifying mark in the 100 hurdles. Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) won the 400 meters (58.89) and finished just three one-hundreths of a second off her meet-record pace from a year ago. Senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) took second in the 5,000 meters (19:07.50) and sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) placed fourth in the 200 meters (27.27). Senior Brittany Anderton (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) rounded out the women s top-five finishers with a fourth-place showing in the long jump (4.86 meters). Senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had a trio of top-five finishes for the W&J men. He claimed second place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.61), fourth in the high jump (1.78 meters) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.26). Wang and Smith both qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 110 hurdles. Senior Travis Bui-Klimke (Coraopolis, Pa./West Allegheny) turned in fourth-place showings in the 200 meters (23.10) and 400 meters (51.87). Freshman Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump (13.59 meters) and set a meet record in the process. He also finished fourth in the long jump (6.48 meters). Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) was fourth in the shot put (13.34 meters), while sophomore Andrew Howard (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) garnered sixth place in the 5,000 meters (16:23.09). Both W&J squads will be back in action next weekend at the Bucknell (Friday) and Robert Morris (Saturday) Invitationals. W&J TRACK & FIELD SQUADS COMPETE AT WESTERN PA CHAMPIONSHIPS (3/28) CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams placed second and fourth, respectively, on Saturday at the Western Pennsylvania Championships hosted by California University of Pennsylvania.

8 The invitational was divided into two meets for team scoring with the Division I and II schools in one division and the Division III and NAIA schools in another division. The W&J men garnered 149 points and finished as the runner-up to Grove City (189 points). The Presidents' women claimed fourth place with 114 points. Westminster won the championship with 200 points. Senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) was the Presidents' lone first-place finisher after claiming the high jump crown with a top leap of 5'3 ¾". Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) placed in four different events, including a third-place showing in the 400 meters (59.13) in which she qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships. She also took sixth in the 200 meters (27.52) and led the 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads to a pair of top-seven finishes. The 4x100 relay team comprised of Wuenstel, senior Maggie Eshleman (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman Tierney Risley (Nassua, N.Y./Columbia) placed third with a time of Wuenstel, Eschleman, Risley and freshman Patience Kapfer (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) also took seventh in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4: McElhaney qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 100-meter hurdles (15.75) and also claimed fourth in the long jump (16'4 ½"). The men's squad was paced by freshman Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury), who took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.85) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.27). Wang also helped the 4x100 (44.70) and 4x400 (3:30.93) relay squads to sixth and seventh place showings, respectively. Seniors Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Travis Bui-Klimke (Coraopolis, Pa./West Allegheny) and freshman Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) joined Wang on the relays. Smith (16.21, 6th) and French (16.83, 7th) also placed in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) performed well in his first collegiate meet as he grabbed second place in the triple jump (43'3 ¼") and fourth in the long jump (20'11 ¾"). Senior Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) placed fourth in the javelin (182'3") and classmate Justin Nock (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) claimed fourth in the high jump (5'9 ¾"). On the women's side, freshman Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) placed third in the triple jump (34'5 ½"), while senior Brittany Anderton (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) posted a fourth-place showing in the same event with a top mark of 33'3 ¼". Senior Megan Duffett (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) earned fifth place in the 5,000 meters after notching a time of 20:47.88.

9 Both Presidents squads will remain home next weekend as they host the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at Cameron Stadium (10:00 am). JONES WINS JAVELIN TITLE AT MUSKINGUM (3/21) MUSKINGUM, Ohio - The Washington & Jefferson College track & field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday with a sixth-place men's finish of seven teams at the Muskingum Invitational. Mount Union won the team championship with 194 points. W&J totaled 33 points. The Presidents were led by senior Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer), who provisionallyqualified for the NCAA Championships during his win in the javelin. He posted a jump of meters (196'7"). Jones also placed second in the triple jump (12.16 meters, 39'10 ¾") and qualified for the ECAC Championships. He then claimed third place in the discus with a throw of meters (143'6"). Junior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) placed fourth in the shot put (13.63 meters, 44'8 ¾"), while classmate Daniel Barringer (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) placed fifth in the javelin (47.82 meters, 156'11"). Both W&J squads will be in action next Saturday at the Western Pennsylvania Championships hosted by California Univ. of Pa. W&J WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TAKES 23RD AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS (3/7) MEDFORD, Mass. - The Washington & Jefferson College women's indoor track and field team tied for 23rd place this weekend at the 2009 ECAC Championships hosted by Tufts University. The Presidents totaled 11 points and tied with Wesleyan for 23rd place of 51 teams. The W&J men competed in one event as the 4x200 relay team posted the third-best time in school history with a mark of 1:33.99 and placed 12th. The women's 4x200 relay squad notched the second-best time in school history and also claimed 12th place (1:50.65). Leading the individuals was senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren), who placed third with a leap of 1.62 meters in the high jump. Baumgard will now await word to see if her

10 best jump of the season (1.66 meters at Robert Morris) will qualify her for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) also had a solid meet after taking eighth place in the 3,000 meters (10:42.50) and 14th place in the 5,000 meters (18:34.43). Both of her times set lifetime personal bests. Sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.62 seconds and then placed eighth with a mark of 8.88 seconds. She also placed 21st in the long jump (4.73 meters). Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) rounded out W&J's place winners with a sixth-place showing in the 400 meters (59.08). Washington & Jefferson's outdoor season begins on March 21st at the Muskingum Invitational. W&J POSTS MULTIPLE WINNERS AT DENISON LAST CHANCE MEET (2/27) GRANVILLE, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson College won seven events this weekend at the Denison University Indoor Track & Field Last Chance Meet. The Presidents were led by sophomore Kaitlyn McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshmen Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury). McElhany paced the women's squad with victories in the 55-meter hurdles (8.74) and the long jump (5.6 meters). Her time in the 55-meter hurdles was a personal best which also improved her ECAC Championship qualifying mark. She also led the 4x200 relay team to a win in an ECAC-qualifying time of 1: Senior Magdalena Eshleman (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and freshman Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) all ran on the victorious relay. Wang took home first place in the long jump (6.20 m) and also led the 4x200 relay squad to a victory. W&J MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD GARNERS SECOND PLACE AT KENYON CLASSIC (2/23) WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's track and field team took second place of eight teams on Saturday at the Kenyon Classic. In addition, the W&J women split their squad, sending student-athletes to both Kenyon and Kent State. The Presidents' men compiled 101 points to take second place behind invitational winner Penn State-Behrend (153 pts.). W&J had two individual winners as senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) claimed the shot put title (13.85 meters) and freshman Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12 seconds. Freshman Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.04 meters, while senior Curt Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) also placed second in the triple jump (12.57 m). Wang also excelled in helping the Presidents' relay squads to runner-up finishes in season-best times. He joined senior Jeff Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and freshmen Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) and Andrew Lacy (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) on the 4x200 relay which posted a time of 1: Wang, Smith, French and freshman Adam Toomey (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) combined to record a time of 3:32.96 in the 4x400 relay. Toomey also took third place in the 800 meters (2:04.82), while French notched third in the triple jump (12.29 m) and fifth in the long jump (5.82 m). Wang took third in the long jump (6.01 m). Competing at Kent State among athletes from all three NCAA divisions, sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) qualified for the ECAC Division III Women's Championships in the 200 meters (26.57) and 400 meters (59.04). Senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) also qualified for the ECAC event and ran a personal-best time of 18:37.68 in the 5,000 meters. She placed 10th during the race. Senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) also tied for third in the high jump with a top mark of 5'3".

W&J INDOOR TRACK & FIELD POSTS 5TH AND 6TH PLACE SHOWINGS AT MARIETTA (2/6) MARIETTA, Ohio - The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's indoor track and field teams recorded fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively, on Friday evening at the Marietta Alumni Open Invitational. The meet included teams from all three NCAA divisions. West Virginia Wesleyan won the men's championship with points followed by Robert Morris (160), Marietta (129), Wheeling Jesuit (105) and W&J (77) in the top five. Ohio University captured the women's championship with 261 points. Robert Morris (126) was second and Marshall (99), Marietta (80.5), W.Va. Wesleyan (66.5) and W&J (36) closed out the top six squads. The Presidents' women were paced by senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.), who placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 10: She qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships with that time. Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) took second in the 400 meters (1:01.16) with a season-best time and then claimed fourth in the 200 meters (27.65). Sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) picked up a fifth-place a finish in the 55 hurdles (8.79), improving her ECAC-qualifying time, and then also took fifth in the long jump (5.08 meters). Senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) placed fourth in the high jump (1.57 m), while freshman Patience Kapfer (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) recorded a season-best time during her eighth-place finish in the 800 meters (2:32.80). Freshman Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) paced the men's squad with second place in the 55 hurdles (8.16). He notched the best time in the preliminaries with a mark of 8.04 seconds. Wang then finished fourth in the long jump (6.42 m). Junior Bryan Hanrahan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) and sophomore Andrew Howard (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) both set personal-best times in the 5,000 meters. Howard (16:37.30) placed fourth, while Hanrahan (17:21.27) claimed sixth. Freshman Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) set a personal best during his fifth-place showing in the long jump (6.36 m), while junior Bryan Considder's (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) throw of meters in the shot put was good for fifth place and a personal record.

The Presidents will have two weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 21st at the Kenyon and Kent State Invitationals. BAUMGARD QUALIFIES FOR NCAA INDOORS AT ROBERT MORRIS (1/23) MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at the Robert Morris University Six-Way. The unscored meet featured teams from NCAA Division I and Division III. Baumgard placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.66 meters to earn the nationalqualifying mark. The NCAA Championships will be held March at the University of Minnesota. TWO QUALIFY FOR ECAC'S AS W&J CONTINUES INDOOR SCHEDULE (1/17) COLUMBUS, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson College senior Summer Baumgard (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) and sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) both qualified for the 2009 ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Capital Crusader Invitational. The W&J women posted 82 points and placed fourth in the six-team standings. Otterbein won with points followed by Ohio Wesleyan (166), Capital (140), W&J, Muskingum (46.5) and Kentucky State (38).

Ohio Wesleyan ran away with the title with points, while Otterbein (130), Kentucky State (84), Capital (78) and Muskingum (41) closed the standings. Baumgard qualified for the ECAC Championships after winning the high jump with a top leap of 5'3" (1.60 meters). McElhany earned an invitation to the ECAC event in two events. She placed second in the triple jump (33'2 ¼", m) and third in the long jump (16'10 ¾", 5.15 m). She also took third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.52). Senior Erin Long (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) won the 5,000 meters with an indoor personal best time of 19: Sophomore Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) claimed second place in the 200- meter dash (27.91) and the 400-meter dash (1:01.70). The meet was unscored. Freshman long jumper Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) highlighted the event for W&J in his first collegiate invitational after placing second at the 2008 Holiday Classic at West Virginia University with a jump of 6.37 meters. Nock also recorded a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.78 meters.
