1 W&J S GRODOTZKE NAMED WOMEN S LACROSSE ALL-REGION (5/27) WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association recently released its 2009 Division III All-Region Teams and Washington & Jefferson College freshman defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) was selected to the West Region Second Team. Grodotzke is W&J s first-ever lacrosse all-region selection. The Presidents completed their second NCAA Division III varsity season in 2009 with an 8-7 record. Grodotzke started all 15 games for the Presidents and finished with seven goals and one assist. She led the squad with 43 ground balls and was second on the team with 24 caused turnovers. Grodotzke also collected 15 draw controls. Grodotzke spearheaded a W&J defense which held four of its last five opponents to nine or less goals, including victories over Waynesburg (17-2) and Lancaster Bible (20-2) in which the Presidents limited the opposition to a pair of scores. Led by Head Coach Kate Scattergood, Washington & Jefferson increased its win total from its inaugural season by five (3-8, 2008; 8-7, 2009). PRESIDENTS END SEASON WITH 8-7 VICTORY OVER SAINT VINCENT (4/29) WASHINGTON, Pa. - Freshman Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) fired in a gamehigh five goals, including the game winner with 40 seconds remaining, to lift Washington & Jefferson to an 8-7 women's lacrosse victory over Saint Vincent on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium. The Presidents complete their second NCAA Division III varsity season with an 8-7 overall record. W&J increased its win total from last year's inaugural season by five. The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither squad leading by more than a goal. Oake tied the game 3-3 with 2:39 left in the half; however, freshman Anne Roslonski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) put the Lady Bearcats (4-7) in front by a 4-3 margin at halftime with a goal with 59 seconds remaining. Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) tied the game three minutes into the second half, but SVC answered with two-straight goals to open a 6-4 advantage with 17 minutes left. Oake scored at the 15:45 mark and senior and Valerie Orchzechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tied the game 54 seconds later. Sophomore Liz Basile-Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) helped the Bearcats reclaim the
2 lead with 8:52 remaining, but Oake once again had the answer at the 5:30 mark. Oake then beat three SVC defenders and fired a shot past senior goalie Erica Lisi (Camillus, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) for the game-winning score. Sophomore goalie Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) also made two key saves in the final minutes to help secure the win. She finished the game with seven stops. Freshman Joanne Chjoecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) scored the other Presidents'goal. Sophomore Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and Chojecki both dished out one assist. Senior Sarah Peranteau (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the Lady Bearcats with three goals. Lisi collected 19 saves. W&J outshot Saint Vincent by a margin and used a edge in ground balls. The Presidents also forced 22 turnovers and grabbed 11-of-17 draw controls. W&J WOMEN'S LACROSSE TOPS TRINE, 11-9 (4/25) DUBLIN, Ohio - Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and freshman Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) both netted four goals as Washington & Jefferson evened its record at 7-7 after holding off Trine (Ind.) by an 11-9 margin on Saturday evening in women's lacrosse action at Dublin Coffman High School. The Presidents led 8-4 at halftime and stymied a late Thunder charge to earn the win. Washington & Jefferson can finish over.500 in only its second varsity season with a victory over Saint Vincent Wednesday (7:00 pm) on Senior Night at Alexandre Stadium. 3 WASHINGTON, Pa. - Elisabeth Hildebrand scored four of her game-high six goals in the first half as Frostburg State ended Washington & Jefferson's four-game win streak with a victory on Tuesday evening at Alexandre Stadium. The Bobcats (7-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes and built a 13-5 halftime cushion. The teams traded a trio of goals during the first 17 minutes of the second half as the Presidents could not get closer than seven goals the rest of the way. Hildebrand added one assist for seven total points, while Rachel Frank notched five points with two goals and three assists. Joanna McIntire netted three goals. Nine different Bobcats fired in goals during the win. W&J increased its program-best win streak to three games and improved its overall record to 5-6. The Presidents opened an 11-0 lead at halftime and did not allow a goal for the first 36 minutes of the contest. 6 OAKE AND SCHROCK POWER PRESIDENTS PAST YEOWOMEN (4/8) WASHINGTON, Pa. - Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and freshman Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) both scored five goals to help the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team defeat Oberlin College, 19-11, on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium. The 19 goals are the most by the Presidents in the 20 games since the program was started at the college last season. W&J improved to 3-6 with the victory and equaled its win total from the 2008 inaugural season. Oake netted two goals during an early run which gave W&J a 5-1 lead at the 24:19 mark of the first half. The Yeowomen (0-8) closed to within 6-3, but the Presidents ended the half with four of the final five goals to claim a 10-4 edge after 30 minutes. Schrock fired in two goals during the final three minutes. Washington & Jefferson put the game away with the first five goals of the second half. Allegheny (3-5) answered with seven of the next eight goals to notch a 7-3 lead with 17:44 remaining in the first half. Meg Grossman and Christina Zanic both scored two goals each during the spurt. W&J ended the first half with a run of its own, scoring six of the final eight goals, including four by Oake. The Presidents led by a 10-9 margin at halftime. Abby Silvester scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the second half and Zanic added another to give the Gators a lead. The Ladies (5-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the first half and the Presidents (2-4) could only bring the lead down to four goals the rest of the way. Sherwood netted the first three goals of the game and then added her fourth at the 16:27 mark for a 5-0 advantage. W&J POURS IN EARLY GOALS AND HANGS ON FOR FIRST ROAD WIN (3/25) SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson jumped out to a 7-1 lead and hung on for a women's lacrosse victory over Wittenberg on Wednesday evening. The Presidents (2-3), who lost to the Tigers last year at home by a 13-8 margin, earned the first road win in the program's two-year history. Last year, W&J defeated Trine away from Alexandre Stadium, but that game was played on a neutral field in Medina, Ohio. Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) spearheaded W&J's early run with two goals as the Presidents opened a 7-1 advantage after 18 minutes of play. The Loggers (5-0) raced out to a 5-1 lead behind a pair of goals from Sofia Lama and Puget Sound added two more goals in the final 78 seconds to grab a 7-2 halftime advantage. Puget Sound netted three of the first four goals in the second half to build a 10-3 lead; however, the Presidents (1-3) rallied with four consecutive goals during a seven-minute span to narrow the deficit to Senior Laura Peery (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and freshmen Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) and Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) all scored during the spurt. The Boxers (2-1) raced out to a 3-0 lead, but three consecutive goals by W&J sophomore attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) tied the contest, 3-3, at halftime. W&J and Pacific traded goals during the first 18 minutes of the second half; however, a threegoal spurt over four minutes put the Boxers in front, 9-6, with 6:17 remaining.

Lee added one assist to total five points for Pacific. Savannah McClendon netted three goals, while Monica Smith found the back of the net twice. Heidi Clark kept the Boxers in the contest all night by collecting 16 saves. Schrock notched four goals to lead the Presidents (1-2). HATFIELD LEADS MARYMOUNT TO VICTORY OVER W&J (3/13) WASHINGTON, Pa. - Springanne Hatfield scored six goals to lead the Marymount women's lacrosse team to a 10-4 victory over Washington & Jefferson on Friday evening at Alexandre Stadium. The Saints (1-4), who defeated the Presidents last year by a 17-4 margin, jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half following a pair of Hatfield goals. Hatfield stretched the lead to 5-1 at the 8:21 mark; however, W&J (1-1) closed to within 5-3 at halftime after late goals from freshmen Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior). Marymount took control of the game by scoring the first three goals of the second half, including a pair of tallies by Hatfield. Sophomore Shannon Rainey (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) narrowed W&J's deficit to 8-4 with 19:24 remaining, but the Saints added the final two goals to secure the win. W&J WOMEN'S LACROSSE OPENS 2009 SEASON WITH 14-8 VICTORY (3/7) WASHINGTON, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College scored the first nine goals of the game and held off a late Hood College charge to record a 14-8 season-opening women's lacrosse victory on Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium. The Presidents (1-0), who are competing in their second varsity season, started the game with a 9-0 run over the first 21 minutes. Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) netted three of the goals. The Blazers (2-2) trimmed the lead to 9-3 at halftime with a trio of goals in the final eight minutes. Hood was able to bring the lead down to 11-8 after a Sarah Balukoff goal with 9:09 remaining, but senior Valerie Orzechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored at the 3:48 mark for W&J and senior Laura Peery (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added two late scores to secure the victory. Schrock totaled seven points with four goals and three assists, while Peery also fired in four goals. Orzechowski contributed three goals, while freshman Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) pitched in two goals. Freshman Kerri Nunnamaker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had one goal and one assist and sophomore Shannon Rainey (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished out three assists. Sophomore goalie Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) made four saves to earn her fourth career win. Brandy Noel and Kelsey Blackwell led the Blazers with three goals each.
