Wellsboro H.S. Young led the Wolverines to a perfect 6-0 week by batting.450 (9-for-20) with a double, two triples, two home runs, seven runs scored and seven RBIs. She also was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts and posted a slugging percentage on the week. Also nominated was freshman OF Brittani Seeman of Bethany, sophomore C/OF Melissa Rankin of Thiel, sophomore DP/P Dana Bors of Thomas More, senior SS Kelly Morrow of Washington & Jefferson, sophomore SS Kristen Lautenschlager of Waynesburg, and sophomore P/1B Lis Schulz of Westminster. PAC Pitcher of the Week LAUREN PENNELL Grove City Sophomore Zelienople, Pa. Seneca Valley H.S. Pennell earned her second PAC Pitcher of the Week honor this season after posting a 5-0 record and 0.70 ERA for the 6-0 Wolverines last week. She threw four shutouts in the circle, including a pair of two-hitters against PAC foes Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg, respectively. Pennell allowed just 19 hits and four walks while striking out 22 in 30 innings, as popponents hit just.179 against her. Also nominated was freshman Summer Terrell of Bethany, sophomore Dana Bors of Thomas More, junior Georgia Schumacher of Washington & Jefferson, sophomore Amanda Baughman of Waynesburg, and sophomore Lis Schulz of Westminster. GROVE CITY 6-0 IN PAC: The Grove City Wolverines have jumped out in front in the early race for the 2009 PAC Tournament. GCC moved into the top spot following doubleheader sweeps of PAC foes Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg last week. Grove City will have its conference lead tested this week with PAC doubleheaders at Thomas More Wednesday and at home vs. Westminster Thursday... Thomas More and Westminster are each 4-2 and tied for second place in the PAC standings. PAC SOFTBALL Week 5 Conference Notes WHO S HOT: Thomas More sophomore DP/P Dana Bors hit.563 with a pair of RBIs for the 5-1 Saints last week... Sophomore 1B Lis Schulz hit.600 (9-for-15) with five RBIs while adding a pair of pitching wins for 3-1 Westminster... W&J senior SS Kelly Morrow hit.368 with a pair of doubles for the 3-3 Presidents last week... Sophomore C/ OF Melissa Rankin batted.555 (10-for-18) with 11 RBIs for 4-2 Thiel last week... Michawn Rich of Geneva hit a pair of homers in a 7-2 win over PAC rival Bethany. AROUND THE LEAGUE: Grove City is 6-0 in PAC play for the first time ever... Chatham earned its first PAC win of the year with a 6-3 defeat of Westminster, with Katie Lloyd earning the pitching win... Ashley Whipkey posted both wins in the circle during a 2-4 week for Saint Vincent... SS Kristen Lautenschlager hit.462 with three runs scored for 2-2 Waynesburg... Bethany pitchers Summer Terrell and Cortney Newland allowed no earned runs in a non-league sweep of Case Western Reserve Tuesday.

2 Bethany Bison (8-12, 2-2 PAC) After starting the week with two hard-fought wins over Case Western, Bethany dropped a pair of tight games at Geneva and then fell twice to Thomas More Against CWRU, Summer Terrell threw a three-hit shutout in the first game and BC s two runs on three hits was just enough In the 2 nd game, Brittani Seeman had two hits and two RBIs and Chelsea Butler posted two hits and scored a pair to support Cortney Newland, who tossed a complete game and allowed only two unearned runs At Geneva, Ashley Marinacci s two-run homer in the seventh gave the Bison a 4-2 lead, but Geneva rallied with three in the last of the 7 th for the win Geneva also scored the final six runs in the nightcap. PAC SOFTBALL NOTES Chatham Cougars (4-18, 1-7 PAC) Chatham split a home double header with Westminster... The Cougars won the first game 6-3 for their first PAC victory of the season... Barb Petty, Paige Dunlap and Robin Greenberg each had three hits in the win... Katie Lloyd pitched seven innings for her second win of the season... Petty had seven put-outs in left field to lead the defense... Chatham managed only two hits in a 10-0 loss in the second contest... The Cougars return to action when they travel to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday for two games. Geneva Golden Tornadoes (13-9) Geneva s up-and-down week ended on a down note with a doubleheader loss to Thiel... It was the first sweep that the Golden Tornadoes have suffered in two years on their new field.... Geneva opened the week with a sweep over defending PAC champion Bethany by scores of 5-4 and Adriane Blake capped a three run seventh inning rally with a two-out single that plated the winning runs in game one... Michawn Rich hit a pair of homers to pace the game two victory... Ashley Archer won for the seventh time this year and moved to within four victories of Geneva s all-time record for pitching victories... Saturday, the GTs left 26 runners on base in their doubleheader loss to Thiel. Saint Vincent Bearcats (9-11) The Bearcats went 2-4 on the week, being swept by Waynesburg Thursday before splitting weekend doubleheaders with W&J and Mount Aloysius... Both Waynesburg contests saw the Yellow Jackets come from behind to earn wins in their last at bat, including a 5-4 decision in the nightcap that went nine innings... Rachel Komarinski went 5-for-7 in the twinbill with three RBIs, while Maura Wahl and Mollie Stock both had four hits... After being held to just two hits in the W&J opener, SVC regrouped for a 3-2 nine-inning, comeback win in the nightcap... Jostalyn Klosky homered in the win, while Wahl and Angela Doyle each finished 2-for-4 and Ashley Whipkey earned the win in the circle. Thomas More Saints (17-7, 4-2 PAC) The Saints went 5-1 last week as they took oneof-two at Transylvania and then swept both Centre and Bethany on the road Sophomore DP/P Dana Bors led the Saints at the plate last week with a.563 batting average as she was 9-for-16 with to runs batted-in and two runs scored Additionally, senior C Jennifer Weis hit.400 as he was 8-for-20 with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and six runs scored In the circle last week, Bors had a 1.00 ERA as she went 3-0 and gave up only 10 hits and struck out 26 batters in 21 innings of work and sophomore Samantha Ladenburger went 2-1 with a 2.80 ERA and struck out five batters in 20 innings of work. Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (9-9, 1-3 PAC) Last week was a tale of two halves for the Yellow Jackets... Waynesburg started the week by traveling to Latrobe on Apr. 2 to face Saint Vincent in a doubleheader... The Jackets took game one 4-3, and followed that up with a marathon 5-4 victory in nine innings... Senior P Autumn Minor earned her fifth-straight victory in the circle in game one, thanks in large part to a game-tying solo homer by SS Kristen Lautenschlager in the bottom of the seventh and a walk-off solo shot by sophomore DP Amanda Baughman... Baughman moved to the pitching circle and rolled up 10 strikeouts as she got the win in game two... The two-game set with Grove City didn t go as well, as fielding errors led to two losses. Grove City Wolverines (14-9, 6-0 PAC) Grove City moved into first place in the PAC by sweeping W&J and Waynesburg last week The Wolverines 6-0 league mark is the best in program history Grove City opened the week by sweeping Penn State-Greater Allegheny, 9-0 and 13-4 Thursday, Grove City picked up two wins over visiting W&J In the opener, Grove City rallied from a 3-1 deficit to earn an 11-3, 5- inning win Sophomore LF Brittany Young tripled and drove in three runs In the nightcap, sophomore P Lauren Pennell fired a two-hit shutout as Grove City pulled out a 1-0 win Saturday, Pennell spun another 2-hit shutout in Grove City s 3-0 victory at Waynesburg GCC then extended its win streak to seven with a 9-0 win in game two. Thiel Tomcats (8-14, 0-2 PAC) The Tomcats are coming off of a week where they went 4-2 overall, but lost their first PAC matchup of the season The Tomcats offense came alive last week, scoring eight or more runs in three games, all victories Thiel will be looking to change its luck next week when the Tomcats face PAC foes Chatham and Waynesburg. Washington & Jefferson Presidents (9-13, 2-2 PAC) After jumping out to a 2-0 start in PAC play, W&J dropped a doubleheader at Grove City Thursday, falling in game one 11-3 and again in game two 1-0 The Presidents responded by winning three out of four to close out the week, including back-to-back come from behind wins against Denison Sunday, 8-7 and 5-3 Senior SS Kelly Morrow drove in the winning runs in game one on an RBI double to left in the sixth inning, while sophomore 2B Katelynn Falleroni hit the go-ahead home run for the Presidents in the seventh inning of game two The Presidents will host Chatham Wednesday for a 3 p.m. PAC doubleheader, before closing the week with a twin bill at Geneva Saturday at 1 p.m. Westminster Titans (6-13-1, 4-2 PAC) Westminster posted a 3-1 record last week, including a 4-2, 5-2 sweep of Thiel at home Thursday and a 3-6, 10-0 split at Chatham Saturday... Sophomore Lis Schulz batted a team-best.600 (9-for-15) during the week with five RBIs and two doubles, including a 4-for-4 outing with three RBIs in the 10-0 win over Chatham... Schulz pitched the win in two games, including 8.2 innings and a 0.81 ERA, nine strikeouts and six hits... She hurled a complete-game shutout of Chatham in which she gave up just two hits with seven strikeouts... Sophomore DiAndra DiBacco also batted.455 (5-for-11), while junior Sarah Woodward and senior Amy Cornicelli each hit home runs last week.
