3 Meet the Coaches Head Coach Kevin Jackson Kevin Jackson begins his ninth season as Rhode Island College's men s and women s cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field Head Coach. He was named the Little East Conference Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in Jackson had previously served as the Head Coach of Boys Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field at Pilgrim High School in Warwick since Prior to taking the job at Pilgrim, Jackson was the Head Coach of Boys Cross Country and Assistant Coach of Boys Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field at Hope High School from Under his tutelage, Hope won six consecutive cross country titles and he coached a New England Champion (Wayne Newsom) and an All- American (Erik Clinton). He was named the Rhode Island Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year in 1989, 1992 and He was the President of the Rhode Island Track and Field Coaches Association from He is the founder and President of the Providence Cobras Youth Track and Field Team. This self-supporting youth program, which started in 1978, works with inner city youth in developing track and field skills. In addition to his duties at RIC, Jackson is the educational coordinator for the Whitmarsh Corporation. He is also a Providence City Councilman. He earned his bachelor s degree in social welfare/psychology from Rhode Island College in A native of Warwick, he currently resides in Providence. Assistant Coach Timothy Rudd Timothy Rudd begins his fourth year as an assistant men s and women s cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field coach. He is no stranger to Rhode Island College sports fans, having competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Anchormen. He was named to Rhode Island College s All-75th Anniversary Men s Track Team in He left RIC as the indoor program's all-time recordholder in the 600, 1,000, 1,500 and the 3,000 meters, as well as the distance medley relay, and the 4x400 meter relay. Rudd still holds the school record for the top 1,500 meter time with a mark of 4:02.01, set in , as well as the 4x400 meter relay. During his indoor career, he earned numerous All-New England, All-ECAC and All-Alliance/Little East honors in several events. The Warwick, Rhode Island native was also a standout in outdoor track, wrapping up his career in He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors several times in both the 800 and 1,500 meters over the course of his career and was part of the school-record holding 4x400 meter relay team at the time of his graduation. He also ran two seasons of cross country at RIC in 2002 and He was named a Distinguished Student-Athlete by the Speaker of the House and the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 2002 and Rudd earned a bachelor s degree in political science from Rhode Island College in 2004 and is currently working on his master s degree in public administration at the University of Rhode Island. He is currently a police officer for the City of Providence. He is single and resides in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. 3

4 Meet the Coaches Assistant Coach Peter Gbaa Peter Gbaa begins his second year as an assistant men s and women s indoor/outdoor track and field coach. Gbaa was previously a volunteer coach with the Providence Cobras, working with boys and girls in the hurdles, as well as, the long and triple jump events, in both 2007 and The Liberian native earned All-Atlantic 10 honors in both men s soccer and track while at the University of Rhode Island from Gbaa earned All-Atlantic 10, All-New England and All-Regional honors in track for the Rams during his career. He earned All-American honors in the triple jump and as part of the 4x400 meter relay while at Lincoln University in Gbaa also played soccer for the Lions. While at Hope High School, he garnered All-New England honors in soccer to go along with All-American honors in the triple jump and the 55, 60 and 110 meter hurdles in track. He holds the Rhode Island state records in the 55, 60 and 110 meter hurdles.
