Facility: Cobb Track & Angell Field Stream: None Results: TBA DUCKS SET FOR FINAL OREGON TWILIGHT AT CURRENT HAYWARD FIELD EUGENE, Ore. Oregon track and field will close out its regular-season schedule this Friday at home with the final Oregon Twilight at the current Hayward Field. The meet will serve as a last-chance tune-up for the Ducks before next weekend s Pac-12 Championships, while a group of 17 alumni will return to compete once again at historic Hayward Field. The Ducks will also send three student-athletes - Keira McCarrell, Kylee O Connor and Austin Torres - to the Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Stanford, Calif. The first live stream will begin with the 4x100-meter relays (4:40 p.m. PT) and will end after the women s 400 meters (5:47 p.m.). The second live stream will begin with the men s 100 meters (6:40 p.m.), and will run until the conclusion of the meet. Live results can be found on goducks.com, and updates throughout the meets will be provided on Twitter The Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships will not be live streamed. SPRINTERS TURN UP THE HEAT IN THE DESERT A weekend in which head coach Robert Johnson was looking for sharpening and fine-tuning from his team turned into much more as the Ducks sprinters shined at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The Ducks came away with 10 UO top-10 marks in Tucson, while also recording a slew of personal-bests and NCAA top-25 marks. Oregon also got a strong showing from a contingent at the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis, Ore., highlighted by PRs from Sabrina Southerland (1,500m) and Ben Milligan (High Jump). Milligan moved into sole possession of the No. 5 all-time mark in the high jump, giving Oregon 11 total top-10 marks in program history last weekend. JOHNSON AMONG ALL-TIME GREAT COACHES In just his sixth year as the Ducks head coach, Robert Johnson has already led Oregon to 13 team NCAA championships, placing him fourth on the NCAA alltime list. Only John McDonell (42), Pat Henry (35) and Ted Banks (17) have led cross country or track and field teams to more national titles. Under Johnson, the Ducks have won two NCAA championships in women s cross country, four in women s indoor track and field, three in men s indoor track and field, two in women s outdoor track and field and two in men s outdoor track and field. Additionally, Johnson led the Women of Oregon to the the historic Triple Crown in Johnson has also guided his studentathletes to 50 individual national championships, including Sabrina Southerland in the 800 meters and the women s distance medley relay team at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. COOK BECOMES UO TRIPLE JUMP QUEEN Junior Chaquinn Cook became the UO outdoor record-holder in the triple jump on April 21 at the Mt. SAC Relays with a huge lifetime-best of Cook, who placed third in the invitational triple jump, now holds both the indoor and outdoor UO triple jump records, and is fourth all-time in the Pac-12. Her mark of 45-7 is currently No. 2 in the nation, behind only six-time NCAA champion Keturah Orji (Georgia). Cook s big leap earned her the honor of Pac-12 women s field athlete of the week. MEET NOTES 1,500 RUNNERS GO LOW AT BRYAN CLAY INVITE Oregon s dominant season in the middle-distance events continued on April 20 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, as the Ducks shined in some very fast 1,500 meter races. Junior Jessica Hull finished as the top collegian in the top women s heat, running a huge PR of 4:10.46 to move to No. 5 all-time at UO. Lilli Burdon was right behind in a huge lifetime-best 4:12.52, putting her at No. 7 all-time. Hull and Burdon currently rank second and sixth, respectively, in the nation. For the Men of Oregon, Sam Prakel was fourth in an extremely fast heat that saw New Mexico s Josh Kerr (3:35.01) break the collegiate record, taking fourth in a career-best 3: Junior James West followed right behind in a PR 3: Prakel is now No. 6 alltime at Oregon while West sits at No. 7, and the two are fourth and fifth, respectively, in the NCAA this season. Reed Brown (3:39.56) and Mick Stanovsek (3:39.82) also ran fast personal-bests to give the Ducks four runners in the top 10 of the 1,500 this season. DESPITE ADVERSE CONDITIONS, DUCKS SOAR TO TEAM TITLES AT PEPSI TEAM INVITATIONAL The Ducks battled through intense winds and heavy rain to sweep the team titles over BYU, Washington and Washington State at the 28th Pepsi Team Invitational at historic Hayward Field on April 7. The UO women won 10 events to finish with 185 points, while the UO men scored 171 points with six event wins. In total, the Ducks came away with 16 event victories. WINS, PERSONAL BESTS ABOUND IN SAN DIEGO The Ducks throwers, jumpers and sprinters got their outdoor seasons off to a fast start at the SDSU Aztec Invitational (March 23-24), winning eight events and recording a flurry of personal bests. The Women of Oregon won six events, while the Men of Oregon won two. After an indoor season that didn t meet expectations, the Ducks productive outdoor debut was a good first step to getting back to The Oregon Way. Oregon finished its opening weekend of ourdoors with eight total event wins, including sweeps in the 4x100 relays, women s javelin and short hurdles. UO THROWERS START OUTDOORS STRONG Oregon s throwers were especially strong in their outdoor debut at SDSU (March 23-24). Keira McCarrell won the women s javelin invite (PR 154-8), and Maddie Rabing moved into sixth in UO history while taking third in the hammer throw (190-7). Kiana Phelps hit a PR in the discus (168-5), exceeding her NCAA West Regional qualifying mark from last year, and redshirt freshman Alexis Rigmaiden won the open javelin (132-4) in her Oregon debut. For the men, redshirt sophomore Jackson VanVuren was second overall and first among collegians in the men s javelin invite, besting his previous PR by nearly 20 feet (225-4). VanVuren s performance carries some extra significance, coming exactly one year after he underwent elbow surgery. Freshman Jared Briere threw a PR in the hammer throw (178-9), and Sebastian Barajas hit a PR in the shot put (55-1). BURDON, NADEL LEAD SOLID DISTANCE OPENER Oregon s distance runners enjoyed an impressive outdoor opener of their own at the Stanford Invitational (March 30-31). Lilli Burdon, coming off all-america cross country and indoor seasons, won the 5,000 meter invite in a personal-best 15: Samantha Nadel made her 2018 debut in style, running an impressive 33:01.82 in her first-ever 10,000 meter race, an event that also featured the 2018 track debuts of Katie Rainsberger and Alli Cash. The outdoor distance debut for the Men of Oregon was highlighted by the 1,500 meter invite, in which Sam Prakel (3:39.75), Mick Stanovsek (3:39.96) and Reed Brown (3:40.28) finished for the three fastest collegiate times in the nation so far. Burdon s 15:42.65 in the 5,000 is also currently an NCAA lead. 6 16th in the event entering nationals, Southerland ran a huge lifetime-best of 2:01.55 to continue the recent dominance in the event for the UO women. Southerland carried on the winning tradition of Bowerman winners Raevyn Rogers (2016, 2017) and Laura Roesler (2014), giving the UO women the indoor 800 title in three straight years and four of the last five. Including outdoors, the Women of Oregon have won the last six NCAA 800 meter championships. Southerland also helped the UO women to a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay, accounting for 15 of UO s 31 points and earning a pair of first-team all-america honors. UO WOMEN CAPTURE FIRST NCAA DMR WIN The Women of Oregon provided the headline on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships, coming away with the first NCAA distance medley relay title in women s program history. The quartet of Jessica Hull, Venessa D Arpino, Susan Ejore and Lilli Burdon won the national championship in 10:51.99, just.03 seconds ahead of second-place Stanford, for the fourth-fastest time in collegiate history and second-best all-time at Oregon. The win gave the Oregon women five straight years with at least one national champion at the national indoor meet. HULL AND BURDON RUN INTO UO HISTORY After helping lead the UO women to a national fifthplace finish in cross country, Jessica Hull and Lilli Burdon both enjoyed great indoor seasons for the Ducks. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, Hull ran lead and Burdon ran anchor for Oregon s NCAA champion distance medley relay team. Hull earned another first-team all-america honor with a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters, and Burdon was one spot shy of scoring with a ninth-place showing. Earlier in the indoor season, Hull and Burdon both ran under the previous UO mile record at the MPSF Championships (Feb. 24), with Hull becoming the new record-holder in 4:31.76 and Burdon crossing just behind in 4:32.30 to rank second all-time. The duo also became just the second and third Ducks ever to run faster than 9 minutes in the 3,000 meters, with Hull running 8:58.50 and Burdon 8:59.18 at the Husky Classic (Feb. 10) to rank second and third, respectively, all-time behind former Duck star Jordan Hasay. OREGON MEN SHINE IN THE MILE The distance group stood out for the Men of Oregon during the indoor season, specifically the men s milers. Five different Ducks ran under 4 minutes throughout the indoor season. Sam Prakel led Oregon with a third-place finish in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 10), and he also owned UO s fastest time of the season at 3:56.89 (Feb. 10), thirdbest all-time at UO, while running under 4-minutes three times. Freshman Reed Brown earned firstteam all-america status with an eighth-place NCAA finish, and he ran 3:57.23 earlier in the year to move into fourth all-time at Oregon. Former walk-on Mick Stanovsek also qualified for NCAAs in the mile with a mark of 3:57.90, ninth-best all-time at Oregon. Senior Blake Haney (3:59.01) and freshman Cooper Teare (3:59.29) also ran under 4 minutes. The men s distance group also impressed outside of the mile, with James West finishing sixth in the 3,000 meters at NCAA Indoors and Tanner Anderson qualifying in the 5,000 meters. MEET NOTES (CONT.) UO WOMEN COMING OFF TRIPLE CROWN The Women of Oregon are looking to build off last year s magical season in 2018 after becoming the first NCAA DI women s program ever to complete the Triple Crown, with national titles in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field in the same academic year. The UO women began the historic run with a thrilling one-point win in the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and then dominated at the NCAA Indoor Championships for their seventh indoor title in the last eight years with a meet-record 84 points. With history on the line, the Ducks pulled out a narrow victory over Georgia at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with the 4x400 relay team running a collegiate record 3:23.13 to pull out a must-have victory in the final event and complete the Triple Crown (more on pages 12-13). 17 DUCKS NAMED MPSF ALL-ACADEMIC Seventeen Ducks were awarded MPSF all-academic honors for their work in the classroom during the indoor season. Sam Prakel (3.89 GPA), Max Lydum (3.85), Chin Ng (3.85), Travis Neuman (3.66), Mick Stanovsek (3.59), Jack Yearian (3.56), Jackson Mestler (3.21) and Bryan Fernandez (3.16) were honored for the Men of Oregon, while Rennie Kendrick (4.15), Ashlyn Hare (3.75), Kiana Phelps (3.71), Kylee O Connor (3.56), Rhesa Foster (3.51), Khadejah Jackson (3.49), Maddie Rabing (3.37), Jessica Hull (3.27) and Lilli Burdon (3.23) received recognition for the Women of Oregon. FOSTER, CARDAMA BAEZ WIN MPSF TITLES Two Ducks came away with conference titles at the MPSF Championships in Seattle (Feb ), with Rhesa Foster winning the long jump and Carmela Cardama Baez taking the 5,000 meters. The Men and Women of Oregon both finished third in the conference, with USC winning both team titles. XC TEAMS, THREE DUCKS NAMED ALL-ACADEMIC The Oregon men s and women s cross country teams have both been recognized as all-academic teams by the USTFCCCA, while Katie Rainsberger, Lilli Burdon and Carmela Cardama Baez have all earned individual all-academic recognition. The Women of Oregon finished the fall with a 3.53 team GPA to earn all-academic honors, while the Men of Oregon posted a 3.19 GPA. Rainsberger maintains a 3.83 GPA in human physiology, Cardama Baez boasts a 3.75 GPA in psychology and Burdon owns a 3.28 GPA in human physiology. DUCKS TASKED WITH REPLACING ELITE TALENT Oregon will have to find ways to replace the production of a few all-time greats in time NCAA champion Edward Cheserek is now a professional, finishing his career with the most NCAA titles of anybody ever in the sport and the most of any male athlete in the history of NCAA athletics. 7 NEW FACES, SAME GOALS There will be a lot of new faces for Duck fans to learn in 2018, as more than 30 newcomers have joined the Men and Women of Oregon. That is nearly triple the usual amount of new faces the Ducks welcome each year. Some of the notable newcomers by way of transfer include sprinters Cravon Gillespie (Mt. SAC) and Briyahna DesRosiers (Texas A&M), jumpers Tristan James (LCC) and Spenser Schmidt (PSU) and middle distance runners Sabrina Southerland (Georgetown), Amanda Gehrich (Utah) and Ruby Stauber (LSU). Oregon also brought in an abundance of talented freshmen, including hurdlers Joseph Anderson and Kaylah Robinson, sprinters Shae Anderson, Jasmin Reed, Lauren Rain Williams and Rocky Rainey, distance runners Cooper Teare and Reed Brown and thrower Jared Briere. DUCKS SIGN NINE FOR 2019 The Ducks announced another elite recruiting class on Jan. 16, signing nine highly accomplished studentathletes from around the country and the world for The loaded incoming class includes a U.S. Junior and Pan-American champion, five state champions and three all-usa selections. The class is made up of hurdlers Eric Edwards Jr. and Emily Sloan, jumpers Lexi Ellis, DJ Henderson and Tori Sloan, middle distance runners Taylor Chiotti and Josh Hoey and multi-event athletes Oierce LaCoste and Maximilian Vollmer CROSS COUNTRY REVIEW The Men and Women of Oregon each put together solid cross country seasons during the fall, with the women finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships and the men running their best race of the year to place sixth. Katie Rainsberger continued to establish herself as a budding star with a stellar season, which she began by shattering the Springfield Golf Club course record. Lilli Burdon showed she can be UO s consistent No. 2 runner while joining Rainsberger on the all-pac-12 first-team, and Carmela Cardama Baez proved to be a big contributor after transfering from Florida State by earning second-team all-pac-12 honors. The Men of Oregon enjoyed a great rookie season from freshman Cooper Teare, who finished eighth at the Pac-12 Championships to earn Pac-12 freshman of the year honors. Tanner Anderson also had a good year to build off last season s breakout performance on the track, leading the Ducks at the NCAA Championships in 41st overall with Teare just three spots behind. MEET NOTES (CONT.) PRAKEL NAMED PAC-12 SCHOLAR ATHLETE FOR XC Redshirt senior Sam Prakel continued his stellar academic career during the cross country season in the fall, winning the honor of Pac-12 men s scholar athlete of the year. The 2016 Elite 90 Award winner for indoor track and field, Prakel is a five-time Pac-12 first-team all-academic selection and a 2016 first-team academic all-america recipient while majoring in biochemistry. CHESEREK BREAKS 3:50 IN THE MILE While the Ducks were securing NCAA Indoor qualifying marks on Feb. 9 and 10, former Oregon superstar Edward Cheserek make history in Boston. Cheserek ran the mile in 3:49.44, the fastest indoor mile ever on U.S. soil and the second-fastest in world history. A day later, Cheserek won the 3,000 meters at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in a PR 7: ROGERS WINS 2017 BOWERMAN AWARD In December 2017, six-time NCAA champion and eight-time all-american Raevyn Rogers became the third Woman of Oregon in the last four years to take home The Bowerman, collegiate track and field s highest honor. Rogers earned the honor after a stellar junior season in which she swept the indoor and outdoor 800 meter NCAA titles, giving her five straight at that distance, while also anchoring the Ducks in the thrilling 4x400 relay to win the Triple Crown. Rogers is the fifth UO athlete to ever win The Bowerman - joining Galen Rupp, Ashton Eaton, Laura Roesler and Jenna Prandini - the most of any team in the nation. Following the 2017 season, Rogers announced she would forego her senior season to turn professional. THE GENESIS OF OREGON TRACK AND FIELD Although collegiate sports went on hiatus temporarily in 1917 because of the first World War, a full schedule of meets returned in 1919 the same year Hayward Field was built for football. Two years later, a six-lane cinder track bordering the football playing field was installed for $10,000, including a 220-yard straightway on the east end of the track. Bleachers were transferred from Kincaid Field, and in 1925, the wooden east grandstand was added. In 1928, the students paid to cover the bleachers on the north end that remained until The University of Oregon s fabled track and field facility is named for the first of several legendary coaches, Bill Hayward, who guided the University of Oregon s men s team from THE ORIGIN OF HISTORIC HAYWARD FIELD With the construction of Autzen Stadium for football in 1967, Hayward Field became a track-only venue. One of the stadium s most famous former features was its south end bleachers that obscured nearly a quarter of the track. Oregon runners and eventual Olympians Otis Davis and Wade Bell were famed for trailing the field as they disappeared behind the bleachers, only to emerge into daylight with a commanding lead. The cinder track lasted until 1970 when the facility received its first all-weather surface. Five years later, the west grandstands were completely rebuilt to their current layout. Back in November 2016, the most unlikely of circumstances set the stage for Oregon to compete for the first-ever Triple Crown of national championships by a women s track and field program. The first jewel in that crown is the NCAA cross country title, won by the Ducks in November when their fifth and final scoring runner, Eugene native Maggie Schmaedick, finished one spot ahead of Michigan s fifth and final scoring runner. That gave Oregon a one-point victory over the Wolverines for the team title, and the first jewel in the Triple Crown. At the time, it was hard to imagine another title being so fraught with drama. To which the Ducks, at this week s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, unforgettably said: You ain t seen nothing yet. Three months after winning the second jewel, an NCAA Indoor title, Oregon on Saturday made history by running to the first Triple Crown of titles by an NCAA women s program in the same academic year. The Ducks did so needing nothing short of a win in the meet s final event, the 4x400-meter relay, and got it in thrilling fashion by running a collegiaterecord 3 minutes, seconds, just head of runnerup USC, which also broke the previous collegiate record. The relay win allowed Oregon to overcome a fall by 2016 Olympian Deajah Stevens in the 200 meters, which she was in contention to win before falling in the final few meters and failing to score even a single point. Georgia led the team race at that point with 62.2 points. Oregon had 54. A second-place finish in the 4x400 would have left the Ducks two-tenths of a point short of the Triple Crown. But they weren t to be denied. It was awesome, said Stevens, who recovered from her fall to run a leg on the 4x400. We ve had talks about getting the Triple Crown, and we were all so excited about it. I knew that we were going to come out and get it, because all the girls want the same thing and strive for the same goals. I knew we d put it together when we had to. Even after her fall, Stevens said, she remained confident the Ducks would pull it out. For everyone else in attendance at Hayward Field on Saturday evening, the outcome wasn t certain until the final moments of the meet. The day began well for Oregon, with freshman Katie Rainsberger battling to fourth in the 1,500 meters, Alaysha Johnson and Sasha Wallace finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, for eight team points in the 100 hurdles, and Stevens and Ariana Washington finishing second and fourth, respectively, in the 100. When Raevyn Rogers won her third straight NCAA Outdoor 800-meter title, and Brooke Feldmeier kicked to a surprising third, the Ducks anticipated dominance Saturday was developing. But everything changed over the final few meters of the 200. Stevens was neck-and-neck with Florida s Kyra Jefferson, who would go on to set a collegiate record of seconds. Stevens was in position to perhaps edge her at the line, when her toe appeared to catch on the track and she tumbled to the ground. Washington surged to finish second, but without any points from Stevens and with Georgia dominating Saturday s field events the Bulldogs suddenly were in position to steal the team title. Fortunately for Oregon, it was fielding the nation s best 4x400 quartet. And given Saturday s dramatics, that quartet was running with some extra fire. We huddled up in the medical tent, UO head coach Robert Johnson said. We all sat down and simply said, Georgia s got 62.2 points and we re at 54, so we can t be second, or we ll lose by 0.2 points. We have to win. I said, I hate to put this all on you but I also want to put it on you, because I wouldn t want it to come down to any other four girls on this team. I simply told them, we re built for this. We re ready. Freshman Makenzie Dunmore ran the lead leg for the UO women, and trailed only USC when she handed the baton to Stevens. The Olympian then handed off to senior Elexis Guster, who earlier in the day finished sixth in the open 400 and then, in the relay, provided Oregon the lead by powering past the Trojans in the Bowerman Curve. Rogers took off for the final leg with Oregon in front, and was passed by the USC anchor in the first turn. But Rogers reclaimed the lead for the Ducks soon after, and road a wave of crowd noise down the homestretch to give the UO women first place in the race, the NCAA Outdoor team title and a Triple Crown for My heart was beating so fast, Rogers said. We prayed about it you know I m all about prayer. It was something that we needed to get. I m just glad that I was able to stay composed and be patient. Oregon s victory celebration was delayed first by two Georgia protests of Stevens participation in the relay after failing to finish the 200, and of her relay leg. The Bulldogs wanted to clarify that Stevens had been officially disqualified from the 200 rather than simply failing to finish, the latter requiring medical clearance prior to participation in another event. And Georgia wanted officials to review whether Stevens had remained in Oregon s lane long enough before breaking to the inside with the rest of the field in the backstretch of the relay s second leg. Neither protest was successful. A thunder storm that moved in over Hayward Field further delayed Oregon s victory celebration. But celebrate, the Ducks eventually did. Is that a way to end a track meet, or what? Johnson asked. The ending overshadowed but couldn t erase some gutty performances by the Ducks earlier in the day. Prior to the 4x400, the Ducks got a point in the 5,000 meters from Samantha Nadel, who joined Rainsberger in providing points toward all three national championships in the triple crown. Hoping to ease the burden on the relay, Nadel tried to start her kick with 800 meters to go, and gain some distance on runners in the field who were stronger finishers. The tactic didn t work out, as Nadel finished eighth in 15:48.93, but the spirit was indicative of the fight Oregon showed all day. We just tried to do our part and stick to our process, said Nadel, who finished a spot ahead of teammate Lilli Burdon. It was a little scary, what happened to Deajah, but we just tried to focus on our contribution. Rainsberger fought through a physical 1,500 final that ended in a five-wide sprint for the finish, in which the UO freshman took fourth in 4: That followed her fourth-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November, and two thirdplace finishes in the NCAA Indoor meet in March. I couldn t be happier, Rainsberger said. I just wanted to get out there, stay composed and really run that last stretch for my teammates. Johnson finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in despite or more accurately because of, she lamented a slow start. Two spots behind her was Wallace, who ran a season-best in just her fourth competitive race since a quad injury earlier this spring. I didn t even think I was going to have a season (back then), Wallace said. To say I m top eight in the nation, I m excited about that. That was my last college race, and I m glad I was able to get points for my team. Until the dramatics of the 4x400, no Duck was happier than Feldmeier. After an impressive preliminary Thursday, she said she barely slept in the ensuing two nights, so great was her anticipation for Saturday. The lack of rest didn t hurt after Rogers won in 2:00.02, Feldmeier crossed third in 2:01.54, her personal best by more than a second. This is like a dream come true, said Feldmeier, a junior. I came to Oregon to run really fast. It s taken a while, but the coaches just told me to be patient. That when it comes together, it s gonna come quick. Washington also couldn t wait for Saturday, but for a different reason. The defending NCAA champ at both 100 and 200 qualified for both finals this year on time, rather than automatically by finishing first or second in her preliminaries. She was out to show Saturday that those performances weren t indicative of her abilities. I think I knew I was better than what I performed like Thursday, said Washington, who accounted for 13 points Saturday. We had a conversation, that we were trying too hard to get this Triple Crown. All we need to do is be ourselves, and be Oregon. That was enough Saturday, just barely. And it was enough, too, to make Oregon winners of the firstever Triple Crown by an NCAA women s team. That yearlong effort began with Schmaedick s dramatics in cross country, and ended Saturday with Stevens near-disaster, then her redemption with the relay. What a way to end a track meet, Johnson said. And what a way to carve out a place in history. 16

Oregon s national titles in the Johnson era include three-straight men s indoor track and field championships ( ), two men s outdoor titles ( ), four women s indoor track and field wins ( , ), two women s cross country titles (2012, 2016) and two women s outdoor track and field championship (2015, 2017). With 13 NCAA team titles as a head coach, Johnson ranks fourth all-time among NCAA head coaches in cross country and track and field. Most recently, Johnson helped guide the UO women to a pair of national titles at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Women of Oregon won their first ever title in the distance medley relay, and redshirt senior Sabrina Southerland continued UO s dominance in the women s 800 meters with her first national championship. The Women of Oregon have now won the last three NCAA 800 meter indoor titles under Johnson, as well as the last six in a row including outdoors. Johnson and the Women of Oregon made history at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a thrilling win to complete the historic Triple Crown - NCAA titles in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field in the same academic year. Trailing Georgia by 8.2 points with only the 4x400 relay remaining, the Ducks ran a collegiate record 3:23.13 to win the relay, secure the NCAA championship and become the first women s team in NCAA D-I history to complete the Triple Crown. In addition to the dramatic outdoor win, the Ducks pulled out a one-point victory at the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the first jewel of the Triple Crown, and set the stage for the dramatics in Eugene with a record-setting performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, scoring a meet-record 84 points. Johnson also led the Men and Women of Oregon to their ninth straight sweep of the Pac-12 team titles in 2017, guiding both teams to blowout victories at Hayward Field. As a result, Johnson was named the 2017 Pac-12 coach of the year on both the men s and the women s side. Throughout the 2017 season, the Women of Oregon broke seven collegiate records (DMR(i), 60m (i), 4x100m, 4x200m, Sprint Medley Relay, 800m, 4x400m), and finished the season with at least a share of six of those records still intact. In the summer of 2017, Johnson helped guide four athletes to berths to the IAAF World Championships at the U.S. Outdoor Championships, including a U.S. title in the 200 meters by Deajah Stevens. Johnson is one of only two coaches all-time to earn a career women s triple crown national titles in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. The other coach to accomplish that is Texas legend Terry Crawford. With a national title in men s cross country, Johnson would become the only coach in NCAA history with career triple crowns for both the men and women. Under Johnson s guidance, Oregon has been honored as the national Women s Program of the Year for each of the nine years of the award s existence, while the men s program has earned the honor five times, including three straight from After a tremendously successful run as associate coach, Robert Johnson was elevated to head coach of the Oregon track and field and cross country programs in the summer of He is in his 12th season overall with the Ducks. His leadership was evident immediately upon taking the helm of the most storied programs in collegiate track and field. Less than six months after becoming Oregon s head coach, Johnson s Women of Oregon set the foundation of success by winning the 2012 cross country national championship for the first time in 25 years. The Ducks followed that performance with their fourth straight women s national indoor title in Johnson then oversaw Oregon s men s and women s sweep of the Pac-12 Championships, before guiding both teams to trophy finishes at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In his second year as head coach, Johnson guided the Men and Women of Oregon to a sweep of the NCAA Indoor National Championships. His women became just the second team in meet history to win five consecutive NCAA indoor crowns while the men claimed their first title since Both teams followed-up with their sixth straight sweep of the Pac-12 Championships. A month later at Hayward Field the men, fueled by four individual champions, claimed their first NCAA outdoor title since 1984 by setting a meet-record 88 points and the largest margin of victory in 20 years. Year three of the Johnson era saw three national championships as the men defended their indoor and outdoor titles. The outdoor title came by 29 points, the largest margin of victory at the NCAA Championships in 21 years. The Ducks then added the crown jewel of year three when the women collected points across the board to win Oregon s first outdoor national championship in 30 years. In , Johnson led the Ducks to a sweep of the indoor championships as the Men of Oregon claimed their third-straight national title and the Women of Oregon won the indoor crown for the third time in four years. The women added their second cross country national championships in the fall of 2016, as they came out and shocked the nation with a one-point victory over Michigan. The Ducks have won 47 individual national titles under Johnson. Leading the charge is 17-time champion, and three-time Bowerman Award finalist, Edward Cheserek. Cheserek claimed two titles at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships to run his career total to 17, making him the winningest athlete in NCAA track and field/cross country history. Cheserek finished only two titles shy for the most won by an individual in the history of NCAA athletics. On the women s side, Johnson served as a key mentor to Raevyn Rogers, who won five straight NCAA 800m titles, including indoors, and provided the memorable kick on the 4x400m relay to win the 2017 NCAA outdoor title and complete the Triple Crown. Johnson has mentored a number of other standout athletes in multiple disciplines, including Olympians Devon Allen, English Gardner, Jenna Prandini, Deajah Stevens and Ariana Washington. Johnson has established himself as one of the top sprint, relays and horizontal jumps coaches in NCAA. He has coached Oregon student-athletes to the American women s indoor record in the 400 meters (50.46), the U.S. junior women s record in the 100 meters (11.03), the collegiate record in the indoor 4x400 meter relay (3:27.40) and the women s DMR (10:38.77), the Pac-12 record in the 100 meters (10.92), a US Championship in the 100 meters as well as 26 Oregon school records. In addition to mentoring five national championship 4x400 meter teams, his athletes have won NCAA titles at 60 meters, 100 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters and long jump. As an assistant and associate head coach from 2005 to 2012, Johnson helped lead a remarkable resurgence of an Oregon women s program that won three straight NCAA Indoor Titles ( ), claimed four straight Pac-12 Championships ( ), and placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships four times ( ). The men s program won an NCAA Indoor title and was the NCAA Outdoor runner-up in 2009 and won conference championships each year from 2007 to Johnson s charges broke all but one indoor and outdoor school women s record in the sprints, relays and horizontal jumps. On the men s side, Mike Berry broke the school s 41 year-old record in the 400 meters as a freshman in 2011 before going on to win a gold medal at the World Championships as a member of the U.S. 4x400 meter relay squad. In addition to 5-time NCAA Champion Gardner, Johnson coached Keshia Baker to three consecutive conference titles in the 400 meters ( ), Jamesha Youngblood to a sweep of the long and triple jumps in 2009 and 2010, and Amber Purvis to a 100/200 meter double in 2010 the first Duck ever to win both sprint titles. In all, Johnson coached 22 conference champions and 70 All-Americans at Oregon before becoming the head coach. Before arriving at Oregon in 2005, Johnson oversaw UCLA s highly-regarded high jump, long jump and triple jump units, and also coordinated its strength and conditioning program. In two years with the Bruins, his men and women combined for one NCAA title, one U.S. runner-up finish, two Pac-10 titles, and eight All-America honors. His star pupils included collegiate triple jump record holder Candice Baucham, the 2005 NCAA outdoor champion and U.S. runner-up, as well as 2004 Pac-10 champion and Olympic Trials triple jump qualifier Juaune Armon. An Appalachian State assistant coach from , Johnson coached 28 individual Southern Conference champions and 14 NCAA qualifiers in the long jump, triple jump, 55 meters and 100 meters. He mentored the school s first All-America jumper Ronda White an outdoor triple jump All-American in 2003, along with two Southern Conference Freshmen of the Year and two Southern Conference Athletes of the Year. As an athlete, Johnson competed for Appalachian State, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1996, and was a two-time triple jump All-American (1995, 96), NCAA high jump qualifier (1996) and school high jump record holder (7-1 3/4). A member of the ASU Athletics Hall of Fame, he competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Trials. 18

A year earlier, Oregon was 13th, at that point its best finish ever. - The department earned 1,027 points toward the Directors Cup in , led by 300 from the women s track and field program 100 for each national title by the program in its historic Triple Crown year, the first by an NCAA women s program. Oregon s three national titles in were one fewer than Stanford and Oklahoma, and gave the Ducks multiple national championships for the fifth straight year, the longest active streak in the country. - The 100 points for the women s NCAA Outdoor title contributed to Oregon s 467 points during the spring, nearly half the department s total for the year. The Ducks also got 90 points for the men s golf team s NCAA runner-up finish, 83 points for making the semifinals of the Women s College World Series and 69 points for the ninth-place men s NCAA Outdoor finish. The women s golf team and both tennis programs also contributed points by reaching their respective postseasons. - This was the fifth year in a row UO finished in the top 15 of the standings, and the sixth in the last eight years. WOMEN S TRACK TRIPLE CROWN After winning national titles in women s cross country, women s indoor track and field and women s outdoor track and field last years, the Ducks became the first women s program in the history of the NCAA to sweep all three championships in a single academic year. OREGON ATHLETICS EXCELLENCE POSTSEASON APPEARANCES IN During the academic year, the Ducks sent 15 teams to the postseason, the most in school history. - In addition to the women s track and field team sweeping all three national titles (cross country, indoor, outdoor), the Oregon men s basketball program advanced to the Final Four, softball went to the Women s College World Series and men s golf, a year after winning a national title, finished as runner-up to Oklahoma. - Women s basketball had a remarkable run to the Elite Eight in while men s track and field finished third in the nation in indoor and ninth outdoors. - Volleyball, men s cross country, women s golf, men s tennis and women s tennis all qualified for their respective NCAA Tournaments. - Acrobatics and Tumbling finished second at the NCATA national tournament.
