2 Commodore s Report What a great effort over the Christmas break from our touring club sailors.those that remained put on a fantastic national title for the Skates and a few hardy yachtsmen had a character building trip to Hobart. The Skate titles were a tough tour of duty for our visiting friends with 20 knot breezes and afternoon low tides to trap those that went in the drink. The Tassy Sabot team cleaned up with the Southern Lads 1st and 2nd and our Joshes just off the podium.the Laser crew were out showing in a few footy seasons they will be a force to reckon with and my old workmate Pete Cameron and youngest daughter winning a heat of the NS14 Nationals.First Tasmanian to do it.the old abacus wielding Rowsa with another Cameron crewing on board snared 5th.Barry Macendoe and the Family had a few issues in the tree felling division of the NS14 s but made it home with a new surf ski. Thanks to Piers and Sarah and everyone around the club helping on and off the water over xmas and the Blockbuster Weekend just gone.pete Sluice and his team did a typical great effort running the on water side with Mel and Mick and the bar team keeping up the liquids. Thanks again to everyone that did there bit with another HUGE THANKS to Tim Lovett and staff at Tamar Marine for trophies Stay safe on the water Commodore Jack Vice-Commodore What a top summer we have had weather-wise. Apart from our L2H competitors getting a dusting at Tasman, we have had idyllic weather for sailing. Over the Christmas break, PDYC hosted the Skate Nationals and although the class had a little more wind than it would have liked, Pete Sluce and Dave Shepherd managed to fit a series in. The racing was spectacular at times and all competitors were blown away with the PDYC hospitality. There is talk about returning for the Skate s 60 th Nationals. Thank you to all volunteers who helped out so much. A number of our sabot sailors and their parents travelled to NSW over Christmas to compete in the 50 th Sabot Nationals at Drummoyne Sailing Club. Well done to all competitors, especially Josh Harriss and Josh Jones for placing 6 th and 7 th respectively out of the 76 boat fleet. Back in January the Club ran two Learn to Sail weekends. The event was a concentrated effort on getting youngsters started and was very successful. Thank you to Jason Harriss and all the volunteers for putting their efforts into this important endeavor. The Blockbuster Series ran in early February and remains a popular event with a good showing of B14 s, NS14 s, Lasers, Sabots and Optis. Well done to everyone who competed on this beautiful weekend and thanks to all the volunteers. The ever popular Midweek Series saw a great turn-out but Dave Shepherd in AGAP proved too consistent to take out the event. Thanks to Bob for being race officer and setting varied courses to suit the conditions. Of particular note, Mick and Mel Jones Ambition looked terrific on the water and is starting to find some great pace. Scott King also 2

Page 17 Out, around and about Page 18 Port Dalrymple Yacht Club annual Regatta Racing for the Keel and Trailable fleet get under way at 1300 hours followed by a mass start for the Dinghy fleet at 1320 hours. The 61st Regatta will see the Clubs major trophies sailed for including, the Princess of the Tamar for off the beach dinghies. For the Keel and Trailable fleet The King of the Tamar, along with the Port of Launceston Schooner America Trophy and the Line Honours Cock of the Tamar will be sailed. Along with these major trophies the regatta will see the final race on the revitalised Bart Hutton series sailed. The Regatta will wind up with a family favourite PDYC casual BBQ. christened his Shaw 650, 3 Sheets during the midweek. Scott, with some help from his brother Ben, has done a fabulous job of scratch building the Shaw from plans in king-billy pine. Looking forwards, the PDYC Regatta is set for the 16 th March and by all accounts we will get a good turnout. This is one of the premiere events in our calendar so please come along to sail or watch and enjoy a friendly bbq after sailing. The popular Tamar Marine Two-Handed Series starts the following weekend on 23 rd March so keep this date in your diary. The Two-Handed offers great competitive racing without the need to look far for crew. Its also a chance to sharpen your sailing skills with less dependence on others. It seems a bit premature to talk about winter yet! But there are two events worth noting this far out. We are pushing to have Yachting Tas run a rules night at the club during the winter months. This will be hosted by a YA delegate who will be an expert on the topic and should be informative for all our members whether they be keen racers or just social competitors. Also several members have expressed to me that the PDYC Winter Series is a great opportunity to place our junior sailors on the Division 1 & 2 fleet. The concept is a good one because it introduces many youngsters to larger boats, headsails, spinnakers and operating as a crew. It also offers a good opportunity for club members who sail in different classes to get to know each other better. My intention this year is to try to foster this integration of juniors (as well as parents and other people keen to sail) onto the Div 1 & 2 boats. In years gone past we have used a roster system and we may look at returning to this concept anyhow your ideas on this are welcome. 4 Rear Commodore The Club has sold the final three Corsair dinghies of the fleet of eight, that we took over from the AMC around twenty years ago. The last two boats have gone north to a great home, where they will continue to provide sail training experience for many years to come, at the Urunga Sail Training Club based on the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers at Urunga (20kms south of Coffs Harbour). Good Morning Members and Friends of the USTC. With much thanks to ETC Coffs Harbour, Richard Wells fromport Dalrymple Yacht Club, Tasmania, Jeff Brooks and helpers from St Georges Sailing Club, San Sousi, AND our Club Secretary, Mark Sanders, We have just taken delivery of 2 pre loved Corsair Sailing boats we purchased as our new Trainers. Thanks to the Sydney Skate crews for squeezing them into their container for a good chunk of the trip north. Urunga have been great to deal with and it s fantastic to see the boats sailing on in their training roll. The funds generated from the sale of the boats and all the gear has be put in an investment account as a basis for funding new more up to date (lighter) training dinghies. 4

6 Slipway Blue Cradle out of service The cradle will be undergoing maintenance and some operational upgrades. Larger boats can be accommodated on the mustard cradle. Demand has been high. Book your slipway dates with Claude today. Trailer Park Members Notices to Members It is mowing season again in the trailer park. Owners of boats in the trailer park are reminded to keep the area under boats mown and tidy. The trailer park is cut during working bees and we try to mow under boats then if we are able to. We can t move boats that have flat tires or locked tow hitches. So if your boat falls into either of these categories, you have a couple of options: 1. Leave a key with Dave Blazley.. 2. Mow it yourself. The club has a couple of mowers so you won t have to bring one from home. If we can t get under the boat you may be billed. Having the trailer park looking neat reflects well on the whole club and avoids damage to the mowers from hitting objects obscured in the long grass. PDYC members do a great job recycling. Everyone helps by separating out the readily recyclable products from waste. When it comes to glass, mostly stubbies from the bar, recycled glass saves about one third of the energy it takes to make new glass. Please place your glass waste GENTLY into the recycling bin. DO NOT BREAK THE BOTTLES. Think how un-necessarily dangerous the handling of club waste can become and help where you can. Club Courtesy Dinghy It is timely to remind members about use of the club s Courtesy dinghy. The dinghy is provided for member s use to retrieve and put boats back on their moorings, and use should be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes only. It is not acceptable for members to take the dinghy out to their moored boats and keep it there for extended periods of time while maintenance or other work is carried out. If such work is required, then bring your boat back to the pontoon or use your own dinghy. Extended periods of use can inconvenience other members who have every right to expect that the dinghy will become available for their use after a short period of time. Moorings Members who would like to have a mooring position in the PDYC controlled area should apply, in writing, to the committee and a position will be allocated to them by our mooring officer Craig Titmus ( ) if available. The position only, is allocated, with the mooring tackle the responsibility of the member. Current mooring owners within the PDYC controlled area are reminded that in the event of resignation from the Club or vacating the mooring site, the tackle only may be sold, with the mooring site reverting back to the club for re-allocation. The tackle should be removed within 14 days, unless otherwise arranged with the mooring officer, before your resignation will be accepted. It is also appropriate to remind members of the safety regulations for the use of the Courtesy dinghy. All people in the Courtesy dinghy MUST WEAR PFDs at all times. Unless these safety rules are complied with the Committee will have to consider withdrawing the Courtesy dinghy facility in order to reduce the risk to the club operations. Your co-operation would be appreciated. Trailer Park Mowing Needed Members need to mow their spots in the trailer park please. Those members whom have already done it, thanks very much, as it's tidy. 9 FOR QUICK SALE Relentless Relentless at PDYC New rigging and refurbished mast going in 09 Relentless is a 34 foot Davidson Delta launched in Built in Melbourne by Ken Jago this was the last of this design built, and as Ken told me the best of them. In her hay day she won the Sydney to Mooloolaba and was two time Cock of the Bay in Melbourne in 97 and 98. She also won the Mornington to Williamstown race In 2001 Relentless was ready for race retirement but her hull and main gear was in excellent condition as she had been slipped most winters for around 4 months at a time. So the decision was made to refit her and she was moved to an urban backyard for the next 8 years. This refit was mostly complete in 2009 when my husband and I sailed her across Bass Strait to Tassie to find a better place to live (and it is). Since then I have been trying to find time and money to complete the refit but due having to fund an operation that my husband needs, she must be sold. There are only a few little jobs left to do including putting some more deck fittings on, some electrical and other small cosmetic fiddly tasks.

10 Relentless has been serviced and anitfouled annually. She is registered with MAST and AMSA as an Australian Registered Ship. She has been re-upoulstered and has a heap of gear including ST50 and 60 Seatalk instruments, RayMarine C80 (removable to take home for security reasons). 2kw Radar and autopilot and TV aerial up the mast for TV installation. Other electrics include new VHF and Kenwood stereo. Galley has microwave and new metho stove with grill. The head is electric which is the greatest for those number twos. Mast and rig completely rebuilt with Dieform rigging and roller furling. Sail wordrobe and spare deck gear is extensive. When not sailing she is powered with a Volvo Penta 2002, 18hp diesel engine and sail drive which both were professionally overhaulled as a part of the refit. She has a 3 folding seahawk stainless steel prop and 160 litre fuel tank. Will consider offers over $30,000. This really is a bargin for someone who has the time to tinker...
