Safety Boats Evan Matthews Katrina Ennever, Hugh Milliken & Daniel Trotman Timekeeping Geoffrey Colwill, Rexon Wolny & Melinda Carran Sausage Sizzling Val Skinner & Melinda Carran Race 4 proved that no two races are ever the same on the Tweed River. Things got underway with a nice breeze blowing from the south at about 10 to 12 knots read on to find out how it ended. 22 boats faced the starter - 5 Sabots, 4 NS14 s, 2 Tasars, 4 Corsairs, 2 Lasers, one 470, 1 Access, 1 Tasman Tiger, 1 Soling and only Greg on his Weta Tri representing the multihulls. So we had 36 people sailing, 4 out on safety boats and at least 4 onshore supporters with several more spectating to keep them company! THE FLEET 6 MINS INTO THE RACE Bill-timekeeper-Fenelon was making an unusual appearance on the water for a change sailing the club s 470 with Tim Joachim-Jensen. He recollects seeing Adam Hurt and new junior crew Yoda Brzezinski (NS14) fly ahead of the fleet records say they finished the first lap in just over 16 mins (maybe it was 26). The 470 battled over the first lap with Tony Lochead & new junior crew Ty Banbury (NS14) and just pipped both Tony and Greg Schofield on the Weta completing the 1 st lap. As the breeze got lighter Bill and Tim vanished out the back door watching Rob Westmorland (Laser), then Tony Oniper & Jenny Pandava (NS14) and then Luke Rich (Laser) sail past. 470 and Weta 2.18pm Adam & Yoda (NS14) Pre start - Tony L and Ty B 1.58pm

2 THE CORSAIRS Meanwhile back in the Corsair race, 3 of the fleet of 4 were having a very close race. Michael Murray and Tanya Bunsornchai got away from the fleet and lead the pack. The next three places were only seconds apart for most of the time. Wayne Freeman swapped the Topper this week to skipper Barry Southgate s Corsair, Alison Blatcher and Frank Paice skippered the other 2 Corsairs all with enthusiastic (and very good looking) crews Robert Foggo and Mariel Penner-Wilson with Frank, Mick Skilbeck and Megan Oniper with Alison and Marg Walgers and Ben Richie with Wayne. Mike and Tanya were also the first Corsair to fly a spinnaker with the TVSC (well done!). Will the rest of the fleet follow the lead?. Left Tom (Tas Tiger) with Corsair flying past Corsairs Changing places 2.24pm 2.25pm It was great to see another Tasar out on the water welcome to Mike Stanley. Potentially we now have 3 Tasars racing against each other. Enzo Carrara had new crew Chester Howell on his Tasar going well until a small capsize mishap all good practice! Also welcome back after a long break to James (Jimmy) Nickless father-in-law Peter Skinner forwent a sail on his Sabre and finally got James out on the water again on his NS14. The NS s were having a close race too at times no doubt grinding their teeth as Rob flew away from them on Laser Abigaleforce - nice work Rob!

3 Go Rob!! chased by NS14 s James Nickless, Tony Oniper & Tony Lochead DIVISION ONE / SOLO JUNIORS THE SABOT CHALLENGE This division includes the smaller boats and has a separate start 10 minutes before the rest of the fleet, completing 1 lap to finish. Competing in this division were 5 Sabots and one Access 303 sailed by Paul Dron. Lilli Oniper, competing in her 3 rd race, was joined for the first time by 2 of our other Juniors. Only one boat finished and that was Lilli Oniper. Lilli is really showing the benefit of time on the water - consistent practice at Juniors and in races. James Skilbeck and Kobie Trotman both did extremely well to get within metres of the finish line but were defeated by tide and lack of wind. Also folding themselves into a club Sabot were Zach Trotman and Mark Banbury. Mark was no doubt getting in some practice ahead of taking his newly acquired (from Greg Ginger) NS14 in the next race. James Skilbeck Lilli Oniper crossing the finish line 2.46pm - one of the very few boats to finish today! Our Juniors fleet is growing nicely, demonstrating the value of our development program based in Jack Evans Boat Harbour. Racing should really start to move ahead in this group the more time they all get on the water especially when the summer juniors sailing starts up again. Sadly in the end it was a fizzer of a finish for all but 6 boats the wind died and the race abandoned signal went out (5 blasts on the horn) as the strong tide stopped all progress and most boats started to go backwards with nobody crossing the finish line after Tony Oniper. Bill and Tim (470) could almost touch the finish line at one point but the tide beat them. 4 THE FINISHERS Well done to those who crossed the finish line for line honours results. The rest of us made do with points for starting and maybe some sympathy points for our reluctant DNF s. Commodore Hugh to the rescue one of many tows WELCOME TO SAILORS FIRST TIME RACING WITH THE TVSC Mike Stanley swelling the number of Tasars in the club to 3 Yoda Brzezinski crewing on the winning NS14 with Adam Hurt Mariel Penner-Wilson and Ben Richie who came down to give Paul Dron a hand and crewed on rival Corsairs. Chester Howell crewing for Enzo Carrara on the Tasar Robert Foggo crewing on a Corsair - Robert will be co-ordinating our Discover Sailing day at the end of October Finally back on shore we celebrated the club s very first Junior sailor - James Skilbeck s 13 th Birthday! CONGRATS to James for entering his first race sailing solo with the TVSC today Good job in difficult conditions.

So thanks to Evan Matthews helped out by Katrina Ennever, Hugh Milliken supervised by canine Marshal, and Daniel Trotman kept an eye on the Juniors race. Rexon Wolny and Geoffrey Colwill stayed on shore to do the start and record finish times there weren t many of those and just 1 boat s lap time??
