It uses the system identified in FSC s Risk Assessment OCoP P02 to recognise hazards, assess risks and indentify control measures. These control measures are carried forward into the generic statements in OCoP P01. Below is a list of Generic Activities Non-AALA Risk Assessments. Do not insert fingers as the components may still carry a charge after the trap has been has been isolated. Ensure cabling is free from abrasions and animal gnawings before use. Ensure the Trap has been checked by a competent person and has been recently PAT tested. ensure the cable is adequately protected from crushing if it crosses pathways etc. and that people are protected from tripping over trailing cables. Protect the electrical components from the weather, ensure all connections are waterproof and use RCD protection. Wear ear defenders where required. exploding lamps are potentially dangerous, Consider PPE including protective glasses/ visor where appropriate. Maintain a safe working especially during periods of rain area and exclude members of the public through appropriate use of signs/cordons. Mercury Vapour lamps haver the potential to have a cumulative damage effect on eyes from the UV that is produced. Follow manufacturers instructions and COSHH. Do not look directly at the lamps, safety sunglasses can be worn for additional protection. Allow time for eyes to adjust before moving around the trapping site in the dark. refer to lone working OCoP. Ensure lone worker has a method of communication with a supervisor / colleague and appropriate first aid provision. Lone working with chain saws must be avoided. operator must be physically capable of safely operating the moth trap.
