It is nt intended t be a step by step instructin manual, as the wrk will be carried ut by cmpetent and experienced persns wh are able t adapt their wrking practices t varius site cnditins and situatins using ur set f task based risk assessments and dynamic risk assessment prcesses. If required prir t r at the start f the wrks / wrk shift, the P&R cntract manager r cmpetent persn will carry ut a detailed walk rund and utline the wrk scpe and ptential impacts f the wrk t the clients representative. The wrk scpe is Where relevant see attached diagrams / sketches indicating the general lcatin f the main items f equipment and apprximate intercnnecting services rutes. Where relevant see any relevant system schematic diagrams. 2. Site Specific Infrmatin / Wrk Prcedures The P&R engineer/s will reprt t the site cntact / site security upn arrival at the site. As required the necessary sign in / sign ut prcedures used by the site will be fllwed. Nte: On sme smaller sites this may nt be a frmal requirement The client may require persns wrking n site t have undertaken a site inductin prir t starting any wrks. The need fr this will either be pre-determined r advised t the engineer when first attending site The site als may perate a Permit t Wrk system fr varius wrk activities. In this instance the P&R cmpetent persn will agree the permit requirements with the site cntact fr the anticipated wrk scpe t ensure full cmpliance with the clients HSE system. The cmpetent persn will be respnsible fr ensuring the necessary Permits t Wrk are in place befre wrk starts and crrectly signed ff and cmpleted fllwing the cmpletin f the wrks r at the end f the wrk shift. A Prject Risk Assessment based n dcument PRHS RA21 has been created t cver the verall wrk scpe, this will be issued with this methd statement. In additin t this a number f the standard task based Risk Assessments prduced by Pitkin & Ruddck will als apply t the anticipated wrk scpe. These are listed belw and the highlighted dcuments are thse initially identified as applicable t the cntract wrks. During the curse f the wrk develping ther task based assessments may als need t be applied. All P&R engineers are issued with a HSE flder, which cntains a full set f task based risk assessments and they are aware f the cntrl measures required t carry ut the tasks in a safe manner. In additin t these recrded dcuments, dynamic risk assessment is carried ut by the engineering teams wh are experienced and cmpetent in the varius tasks being undertaken. In sme circumstances a further hazard specific risk assessment may need t be carried ut, agreed and recrded fr this activity by the cmpetent persn r P&R cntract manager in cnjunctin with the site representative / HSE / technical staff. Where installatins are f a simple and straight frward nature, a standard P&R Pint f Wrk Safety Assessment will be cmpleted by the cmpetent persn prir t starting any wrk. The Pint f Wrk Safety Assessment takes the frm f a checklist, which requires cmpletin; it leads the engineer via the STAR principle (Stp, Think, Act & Review) t cnsider varius aspects f the wrk t be carried ut including; Dcumentatin / permit requirements. Plant identificatin. PPE requirements. Hazard identificatin. Applicatin f relevant task based risk assessments. 4.2 Site Access fr P&R Vehicles. P&R cmpetent persn t liaise with site representative t lcate suitable lcatins fr unlading, lading and parking. If required a vehicle permit shuld be btained and left visible at all times whilst vehicles are n site. 4.3 Asbests. Where the fabric f the building may be disturbed r there is a requirement t enter ptentially dusty areas, the P&R engineer/s will ask the site cntact if they have knwledge f any asbests being present in the wrk areas, the site asbests register may als be cnsulted. If n Asbests has been specifically identified in the wrk area the wrk can prceed, hwever peratives shuld always maintain a high level f awareness whilst wrking with the building fabric. If Asbests is identified as being present r there is in any dubt regarding substances present the engineer/s shuld stp wrk and nt prceed further until cnsultatin with P&R cntract manager has taken place. 4.4 Site Operated & Third Party Vehicles. Operatives shuld wear Hi Visibility vests r jackets when in areas subject t traffic mvement and use prtectin barriers where practical t separate themselves / wrk platfrms frm any vehicles mving arund the site. Be aware vehicles are respnsible fr a number f wrkplace deaths and majr injuries each year. 4.5 Wrking at Height. With nearly all installatin activities sme wrking at height is likely t be required. Suitable staging, steps and prtectin measures are t be used dependant upn the amunt and type f wrk t be carried ut. Prir t every wrk at height task, a dynamic assessment shuld be made t determine which access methd best suits the site cnditins and the particular wrk task. Where a safe methd f access is unable t be determined and implemented the wrk shuld nt prceed and the cntract manager infrmed. 4.6 Manual Handling. All installatin wrk will require a reasnable amunt f manual handling, these activities include lifting tls and equipment and the lcatin and fixing f equipment. Operatives must carefully cnsider the specific methd t be used with each manual handling activity and implement a safe system f lifting fr each ne. Again if in dubt d nt prceed and refer t the cntract manager fr guidance / instructin. 4.7 Gd Huse Keeping. Gd huse keeping prcedures are essential t ensure the site is kept in a tidy cnditin. Rubbish is t be tidied / remved regularly t ensure fire and trip hazards are minimised. Fire / emergency exits must be kept clear at all times. At the end f each shift the wrk area is t be inspected and left in a safe state. January 2018 Page 3 f 9

Other trades persns, custmers staff r members f the public may be present in r clse t the wrk area, their actins may endanger peratives r peratives actins may endanger thers, due cnsideratin f these factrs must be taken at every stage f the wrk and reasnable steps taken t avid any incident. The crrect use f separatin, signage, supervisin and c-peratin shuld be made t eliminate r minimise such risk. 5. General Safety Cnsideratins. Pitkin & Ruddck Ltd cmpany safety prcedures t be cmplied with at all times. (Cpy f Cmpany HSE Plicy Manual is available at all P&R ffices fr client inspectin). All persns invlved in the wrk shall be fully trained and cmpetent in relatin t the tasks they are required t undertake, n persn will be required t carry ut any tasks that they feel unhappy abut ding in relatin t health and safety. Pitkin & Ruddck prmte and perate a culture where any emplyee can discuss cncerns they have with senir management at any time. The senir management are fully cmmitted t perating ur business t the highest standards bth in terms f HSE and quality. All persns shall, prir t cmmencing any wrk cvered by this methd statement, read this methd statement and any relevant task based risk assessments, be aware f their cntent, instructins and what actins t take in the event f dubt r uncertainty regarding the Health & Safety f themselves and thers r impact f ur activities n the Envirnment. All members f the wrking party shall be made aware f the ptential hazards f the wrking area. This, dependant n lcatin, may require a site inductin t be carried ut (see sectin 2 abve). Where scafflding / platfrms / ladders are used these shall be erected by cmpetent persns, in accrdance with the manufacturers instructins and checked prir t each use. Lw-level wrk platfrms shuld be used in preference t ladders and steps wherever pssible. A frame steps shuld nly be used fr shrt-term access, wherever pssible wrk platfrms shuld be emplyed. Refer t task based risk assessments PRHS RA09 and RA07 All electrical tls, access equipment and brazing equipment will be subject t regular test and inspectin t ensure these are maintained in gd cnditin. Recrds f test and inspectin will be held by P&R and labels indicating test dates and future test requirements will be fixed t the relevant equipment. Check these are in date befre each use. Where lifting peratins are t be carried ut manually, due care is t be taken. Refer t task based risk assessment PRHS RA08 Any ptential hazards relating t accidental drpping during lifting r lcating equipment will need t be cnsidered, as required by circumstances adequate prtectin may need t be prvided befre lifts cmmence. The wrk scpe assciated with installatins ften includes activities classed as ht wrk, in these instances a site-specific Ht Wrk permit may be required, this will list precautins and fire extinguisher requirements, in the event such a system is nt perated by the site, as a minimum P&R ht wrk requirements must be adpted. Refer t task based risk assessments PRHS RA05 and RA06 PLEASE MAKE SURE A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME IS SPENT BEFORE STARTING EACH SHIFT TO CONSIDER ALL THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF THE WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT. Cmmn Practice / Prcedures. 6.1 Materials / Substances. A C..S.H.H Assessment and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) fr the substances cmmnly used by P&R in the curse f wrks including refrigerants, industrial gases, ils and cleaning chemicals are kept in the engineers Health, Safety & Envirnmental flders, a further cpy is maintained in each f the P&R service ffices. P&R engineering staff are experienced and cmpetent in the use and cntrl f these substances. 6.2 PPE. Persnal prtective equipment (PPE) is supplied t all P&R persnnel. Suitable PPE shall be wrn dependent n the task being perfrmed and any identified site specific requirements, if in dubt P&R engineers will refer t task based risk assessments and individual site safety rules t ensure the crrect level f PPE is applied t the wrk being carried ut / lcatin. PPE used during the nrmal curse f ur wrk includes but is nt limited t the fllwing; Head prtectin; hard hats and bump caps. Eye prtectin; safety glasses, gggles r face shields. Ear prtectin; ear plugs r ear defenders. Glves; type depending n task / envirnment. Safety ftwear. Respiratrs. Our preferred ptin is pwered respiratrs due t face fit issues. Hi Vis clthing; cats r vests. General wrk wear, cveralls and thermal prtectin including knee and elbw prtectin. Hygienic prtectin; dispsable cveralls, hairnets, glves and beard snds. (These are nrmally site specific and therefre supplied by site) 6.3 Fire Detectin System. Cmpetent persn t investigate with the site representative t determine if a fire detectin system is used in the areas wrk is being undertaken. If this is the case then the ptential impact f the wrks upn the system shuld be investigated. Fire detectin systems f different types are used, sme can be set ff by mvement r dust as well as heat / flame / light s ensure these are all investigated prir t starting wrk t avid false alarms and the impact these have n prductin and emergency services call uts. If a fire detectin system requires islatin fr any reasn t carry ut specific wrks it must be reinstated as sn as the wrk is cmplete t ensure nging prtectin. This shuld be included in any Permit t Wrk descriptins. 6.4 Site Access. P&R cmpetent persn t determine access rutes fr persnnel and equipment, where permissin is required this is t be btained. Any special access prcedures t be listed and the wrking party infrmed. This may require liaisn with the site representative r site security persnnel. 6.5 Safe Wrking Order. The P&R cmpetent persn (engineer) will assess the installatin tasks t determine the crrect and safe rder f wrks. The identified activities will then be carried ut using the relevant cntrl measures stated in the risk assessments fr each task. If during the curse f the wrks additinal hazards r further scpe is identified these will be reviewed and if necessary mdificatins made t the Pint f Wrk Safety Assessment t ensure the revised wrk scpe / activities are fully cvered. If at any time there is any questin that a safe wrking envirnment cannt be maintained, then the wrk shuld be stpped in a cntrlled manner and guidance sught frm the P&R line manager and r site representative. The rder f wrks, nce fully determined shuld be cnfirmed and agreed with the clients representative, this prcess will take int accunt the site access, site peratinal requirements, equipment availability, prgram, gd wrking practice and the need fr efficient wrking. Where ht wrks are included in the wrk scpe, P&R Ht Wrk restrictins, relevant risk assessments and any custmer specific requirements must be strictly adhered t at all times. Be aware ht wrk is likely t be an activity that requires a Permit t Wrk n mst large sites, investigate this requirement fully befre prceeding. 6.7 Existing Equipment. Any existing equipment requiring remval will be de-cmmissined and safely remved. As determined by system type, refrigerant and lubricating il will be recvered in a safe manner and returned fr recycling / destructin. This activity is cvered by the Hazardus Waste Regulatins and will therefre require traceability. Any ther items f redundant equipment will be treated as scrap, which will als be remved in a safe manner. 6.8 Equipment Lcatins / Fixing. The lcatins f the new equipment, cntrls and fixing / lcatin methds will be determined / agreed with the custmers representative. The agreed lcatin f equipment must specifically cnsider the fllwing pints. Ability t safely lcate the equipment. Future maintenance and service requirements f the equipment. The need fr safe access t equipment in future will impact n its prpsed lcatin. Impact f equipment and airflw n persns in cnditined / refrigerated areas. Impact f equipment (utdr units) and airflw / ventilatin requirements f the equipment. Cndensate water discharge pints and utdr unit drainage pints t avid ptential freezing / slip issues in winter cnditins. The methd f fixing each item f equipment and inter-cnnecting service items need t be fully cnsidered and suitable fixings used t supprt the weight f individual items with a built in safety factr. Fllwing full cnsideratin, these items can be sited and securely fixed in psitin using crrect number f persns / lifting equipment t match the weight / lads. 6.9 Intercnnecting Service Rutes. Trace any new refrigerant pipe, cndensate drain pipe, cable and ductwrk runs carefully and mark where new brackets / supprts / penetratins are t be installed, these shuld be agreed with the cntract manager and site representative at an early stage f the installatin prgram. Where pssible pipe runs shuld be as direct as practically pssible and restrictins such as bends kept t a minimum, any high lifts and extended runs need t be identified and discussed with the cntract manager t ensure an unacceptable lss in equipment refrigeratin / heating capacity des nt happen. Be aware all RAC equipment has practical design limits in terms f pipe run lengths and il return criteria. Any unusual r specified supprt methd requirements fr the intercnnecting services will be advised by the cntract manager at the start f the jb, therwise industry gd practice installatin standards will be adpted fr this activity Refrigerant Pipe. The pipe sizes and installatin system methd will be advised by the cntract manager at the start f the jb, if fr any reasn this needs t be changed please cnsult befre prceeding. Pipe material will als be determined this may be refrigeratin grade cpper r aluminium tube depending n which system best suits the applicatin and site installatin / envirnment requirements. Measure carefully pipe runs, install crrectly sized refrigerant pipes with flared, cmpressin and r brazed jints. Where brazed jints are t be used, befre cmmencement f any brazing, ensure a suitable wrking fire extinguisher is t hand, further ensure it is crrect fr use in the area yu are wrking and fire watcher is available fr Oxy / Acet / Prpane wrk. Als refer t sectin 6.3 Fire Detectin System and ensure this has been implemented BEFORE STARTING. A small amunt f Dry Nitrgen is t be purged thrugh the pipewrk whilst any brazing is being carried ut t eliminate xidisatin during the brazing prcess. If nt carried ut crrectly this cntaminatin may lead t future prblems with system peratin / reliability. Sufficient ventilatin is required during this prcess t avid xygen / air displacement where Nitrgen is discharged. Brazed jints will be made using high cntent silver slder r eutectic ally, excess flux t be remved and jints left clean fllwing brazing Refrigerant Pipe Thermal Insulatin. The need fr thermal insulatin n the intercnnecting refrigerant and cndensate pipes will be advised by the cntract manager at the start f the jb. As pipe runs prgress, slip uncut insulatin material nt pipes, mark lcatin f jints under pipewrk with tape n utside f insulatin (this will facilitate easier testing at cmmissining stage). Fllwing successful pressure-testing, any jints in the thermal insulatin shuld be glued t prvide a vapur seal and eliminate / reduce misture ingress t the cld pipe surfaces. Depending n system type, thermal insulatin requirements will be determined and applied in accrdance with equipment manufacturers instructins and gd refrigeratin engineering practice. Where expsed directly t sunlight a suitable paint r cver shuld be applied t reduce lng term UV r wildlife damage t the insulatin Cndensate Pipewrk. Any rute and terminatins fr cndensate water piping will be determined and agreed with the cntract manager and site representative. Avid rutes ver electrical and IT equipment where leakage may result in peratinal damage and disruptin. If required cndensate pumps will be fitted t allw the water t be taken t a lcal drainage pint, if required by site cnditins install a suitable water trap / air gap t avid crss cntaminatin f drainage systems. Cndensate pumps require a separately fused electrical supply with lcal islatin, this wuld nrmally be in the frm f a dedicated fused spur, nrmally prtected at 3 amp. (Check pump instructins) Attentin shuld be paid t future maintenance / cleaning f the drain piping and suitable access pints shuld be installed t facilitate cleaning f the cndensate drain pipes. Specific cnsideratin needs t be paid t the discharge pints f cndensate water that is ruted t utside where cndensate piping may freeze and blck the line r the remved cndensate water may frm ice n paths / walkways in sub zer temperatures Cables. Where existing pwer supplies are reused r new cabling installed, these need t be checked fr suitability in terms f breaker and cable sizing against the new equipment electrical ratings. Any intercnnecting pwer and cntrl cables will nrmally be supplied, installed and tested by Pitkin & Ruddck. New pwer supplies nrmally by an electrical cntractr wrking directly fr the client / main cntractr r as a sub cntractr t Pitkin & Ruddck. Nrmally pwer supply / Intercnnecting cables will be SWA / SY t suit run lengths, equipment perating current and general site cnditins / client specificatin. Cnnect cables t units using prprietary glands as required and make terminatins with crimp cnnectrs t ensure gd cnnectins. Armur braiding must nt t be used as the nly frm f earthing, a separate cre either as part f a multi cre r separate cable will be used fr the Earth cnnectin. Where plastic bxes are used suitable cnnectins are t be made t ensure any required earth cntinuity f any cable armur is maintained. January 2018 Page 7 f 9

Gd huse keeping is essential t maintaining a safe wrking envirnment. Clear waste material as it builds up, at least nce per wrking shift. Attentin shuld be paid t the identificatin and crrect dispsal f waste. In instances where large quantities f waste are anticipated, a separate waste management plan may need t be put in place. If this is the case, the arrangements fr waste dispsal will be utlined by the cntract manager / prject engineer at the start f the wrks Penetratins. The nature f installatin wrks ften require services t pass thrugh walls r structures. Any penetratins that are made need t be suitable fr the services t run thrugh and maintain the structural and r fire integrity f the building. Standard penetratins need t be finished in a neat tidy manner, where fire walls / fire breaks have been penetrated any remaining vids / hles are t be filled with intumescent fam r suitable sealant / cver t maintain the riginal fire rating / integrity. Where dust and air brne particles are created by the prcess f creating penetratins, suitable measures are t be taken t reduce dust at surce and if required respiratry prtectin shuld als be wrn by peratives Testing and Cmmissining. All new cables t be inspected / tested befre final cnnectins and readings recrded. Verificatin f fuse / circuit breaker, sizes and lcatins shuld be cnfirmed befre cnnectin f pwer supplies are made. The intercnnecting refrigerant pipe systems will be pressure tested and then evacuated in accrdance with the equipment manufacturers recmmendatins and P&R pressure test prcedures. Nitrgen nly t be used fr pressure testing, always duble check cnnected cylinders as accidental use f Oxygen which has the same cnnectins as Nitrgen has a very high ptential t cause an explsin due t the il cntent f a refrigeratin / air cnditining. Fllwing successful pressure testing, the relevant parts f the system will be evacuated t remve any air r misture frm the pipe system. The vacuum will be brken with the systems design refrigerant. Systems will then be charged with the crrect type and quantity f refrigerant accrding t manufacturers recmmendatins fr the system. A recrd f the ttal refrigerant charge weight shuld be nted n the utdr unit / charging pint. It is imprtant that any refrigerant added is cmpatible with the system cmpnents and verall design. A recrd f ttal system charge will be kept and frm part f the dcumentatin supplied t the site represenative. Fully test every cndensate drain pipe, jint and pump t ensure n water leakage. Carry ut verall perfrmance testing and cmmissining as per the manufacturers recmmendatins and cmplete the relevant P&R / manufacturers cmmissining sheets Hand Over. Advise custmers representative / users f equipment peratin and prvide practical demnstratin. Operatin and Maintenance dcumentatin will be prepared and prvided t the site representative by the P&R Cntract Manager.
