3 00 SERIES: SIZES -20 K-Fo 00 series vaves feature a onepiece-through-shaft design for high strength and positive disc contro. The shaft meets or exceeds a requirements of AWWA C0 Cass 0B. The permanenty ubricated upper and ower bearings require no maintenance, and are designed for horizonta and/or vertica shaft oading. The bearings provide strength and ow friction for easy operation and ong service ife. Primary shaft seas are affected by preoaded contact between the disc hub and seat. A secondary sea is formed by the shaft diameter, which is greater than the passage hoe in the The vave s stainess stee disc edge is designed for optimum performance and ong seat ife. The rugged cast body meets or exceeds a design and testing requirements of AWWA C0. The upper and ower interna shaft seas prevent foreign matter from entering the vave. Sef adjusting, the shaft seas are suitabe for pressure or vacuum service. The ong ife, corrosion-resistant top bushing absorbs actuator side thrust. A stainess stee torque pug provides a positive eak-proof connection of the shaft to the disc. The vave s advanced epoxy-coated disc (NSF approved) provides maximum strength, high fow capacity and exceent fow contro characteristics. Standard materia for the disc is SS/ ductie iron. The vucanized resiient seat is designed so that no adjustment or maintenance is required. Bi-directiona drip tight shutoff to 20psi is optiona. These instructions are intended for personne who are responsibe for the instaation, operation and maintenance of your K-FLO AWWA butterfy vave. A safety messages herein are fagged with the word Caution, Warning or Danger. These messages must be foowed to avoid equipment damage, persona injury or death. Safety abe(s) on the product indicate hazards that can cause equipment damage, persona injury or death. If a safety abe becomes obscured or has been removed, contact Crispin Vave. Personne invoved in the instaation or maintenance of vaves shoud be constanty aert to the potentia emission of process materia and take appropriate safety precautions. Aways wear suitabe protection when deaing with hazardous process materias. Hande vaves which have been removed from service with the assumption that process materia coud be present within the vave. Your AWWA butterfy vave has been packed to provide protection during shipment. Inspect the unit for damage upon arriva and fie a carrier caim if damage is apparent. K-FLO AWWA Butterfy Vaves are heavy-duty, rubber-seat-in-body butterfy vaves in fu compiance with AWWA C-0 for use in municipa water treatment, power generation, and industria appications. They utiize bearings that are of the sef-ubricating type which provide strength and ow friction for easy operation and ifetime service. No specia periodic maintenance is needed. K-FLO Butterfy Vaves are designed for instaation between ANSI B. Cass 2# fat faced fanges. Mechanica joint vaves are designed for use with AWWA C end connections. MJ accessories for the pipe used must be suppied by the instaing contractor. Cass 20 vaves can be ordered with either ANSI B. 20# driing, ANSI B. 2# driing or AWWA C MJ ends. Faiure to ift the vave propery may cause damage. The vave shoud be ifted ony by nonmetaic sings attached to the vave mounting pate or the vave fange hoes. Never ift the vave by its actuator or by the vave body opening. Adjacent piping must be positioned so that minima piping stresses are transmitted to the fanges during and after instaation. The vave shaft axis may be either vertica or horizonta. If possibe, the vave shoud be ocated at east six pipe diameters downstream of a pumps, ebows, or tees (see Figure ).! NOTE: The vave disc must be in the cosed or neary cosed position before instaation of the vave in the pipeine. This is to protect the disc seating edge. The vave may be instaed with the fow in either direction.! WARNING: Moving Parts from accidenta operation of a power actuator can cause persona injury or equipment damage. Disconnect and ock out power to actuator before servicing.! WARNING: The vave is a pressure vesse. Good maintenance and practice dictates that the vave must be depressurized prior to performing maintenance. Isoate the vave in the pipeine by cosing the vave that is just upstream, and then the vave that is just downstream (in that order) prior to performing maintenance. 9 00 SERIES O&M MANUAL K-Fo 00 Series: Maintenance and Repair Introduction It is possibe that after many years of service, the rubber components of the K-Fo Series 00 vave may show signs of wear. The vave stem packing is a repaceabe component. In the unikey event that the vave seat is severey worn, contact your K-Fo representative. If vave packing eakage shoud occur, the foowing procedures shoud be foowed: Packing Remova. Remove packing retainer which is attached to the sot on the vave shaft. (With actuator removed) Vave Assemby 2. After the packing retainer is removed, pu and remove the spacer and its packing.. Repeat the same procedures for removing the ower packing, except first remove the bottom cover pate prior to removing the ower spacer.. Press both upper and ower bearings into the vave body. 2. Insta ower stem packing and ower spacer. Insta cover pate with cap screws and washers.. Insta upper bushing, upper packing, and upper spacer into vave body top stem hoe.. Insta packing retaining ring onto groove on vave stem.. Insta disc into vave seat. This wi require that a ubricant such as siicone oi or grease be appied to the stem hub areas of both the disc and seat.. Insta stem into vave body top stem hoe (operator top pate side). The stem shoud be instaed so that its mied fat aigns with the disc torque pug hoe. 7. Torque the pug down through the disc and against the mied fat on the stem isted in Tabe beow.! NOTE: The stem hoes through the disc must be propery aigned with the stem hoes in the vave seat to aow instaation of the vave stem. 10 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE SYMPTOMS POSSIBLE CAUSE SUGGESTED REMEDY Vave opens ony a few degrees and stops (it wi not open to the fu ange desired) Leakage past the fange face Leakage past disc in the cosed position (eakage in the pipeine) Leakage at the vave stem Improper instaation. The vave is impropery aigned. Mating pipe interna diameter or other obstruction is interfering with disc. Actuator not propery instaed Fange bots are not eveny torqued. Improper fanges Improper fange gaskets The disc is not cosing fuy: Actuator is not propery adjusted. Damaged vave seat Line pressure exceeds vave s working pressure Damaged vave disc Packing faiure Loosen the fange bots. Reaign vave with fanges, and retighten fange bots to correct torque per ANSI requirements. Pipe does not meet standards and spacers may be required. Any pipeine or disc obstruction must be removed. Refer to actuator adjustment manua. Loosen fange bots and tighten fange bots to correct torque per ANSI requirements. Refer to Fange Requirements on page. Fu face fange gaskets required. Refer to actuator adjustment manua. Repace vave. Reduce ine pressure to vave workingpressure. Return vave to factory for disc/ stem repacement.. Fuy open and cose the vave times. 2. Refer to Packing Remova and Vave Assemby steps 2- on pg. 7. Water hammer The vave is cosing too quicky. Turn actuator sower. Excessivey high torque to operate vave Obstruction in the pipeine Vave shaft or disc bent Scae buidup on shaft or seat Remove vave from pipeine and remove obstruction. Return vave to factory for disc/shaft repacement (check for water hammer or freezing of ine materia). Open and cose the vave severa times. Operate the vave at east once a month. Check the vave seat for deterioration. Recommended Storage Procedures Idea storage is in a heated buiding, paetized and covered. If idea storage is not possibe, foowing a few simpe procedures wi assure optimum performance ater.. Vaves shoud be stored aying fat, sighty opened, but must be kept off the ground and high enough to avoid standing water. 2. Support vave weight on fange faces ony and verify weight before bocking.. Cover competey with tarpauin and support on wooden cross ribs underneath to prevent water entrapment.. If vave is eectric motor operated, foow the motor manufacturer s procedures for storage to prevent condensation damage.. Verify at the time of storage, and at remova from storage, that actuator ubricant eves are as required by the manufacturer. Lubricant eakage can occur during proonged horizonta storage.
