7 freecd-free PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING (Appication instructions) 1. Precautions in design 1) Use the erma-links within their specified temperature and eectrica ratings. Use the erma-links under an ambient temperature of not more than the maximum operating temperature specified in the individua specification. Using the erma-links under a higher temperature than the maximum operating temperature may cause premature opening or opening deay. * When erma-links is continuousy used at the temperature cose to the functioning temperature, the erma-links may operate whie being used. * When the erma-links is continuousy used at the temperature higher than the maximum operation temperature, the erma-links may be degraded and may not operate normay at the specified temperature. e hoding temperature () is defined as the highest temperature at which the erma-links is activated continuousy at the rated current for 168 hours. e erma-links can not be used over 168 hours exceeding the hoding temperature. Equipment sha be so designed that its overshoot does not exceed the maximum temperature imit() after the erma-links operates. If the erma-links is activated by votage higher than the rated votage or current higher than the rated current, the erma-links produces excessive heat, resuting in premature operating. e arc generated at this condition of operation wi resut in an abnormaity of appearance (fracture of insuating case, bowing out of ead or seaant, and et a) and insufficient insuation. * When erma-links is operated at abnorma status of mode whie the rated votage and/or the rated current being exceeded, it may not cut off the circuit. erma eement may be transformed and erma-links may open when it is used in the environment from which an excessive temperature change (such as outdoor) is repeated. Investigate the environment where erma-links is used. In case that transient overoad might be appied, repeat the tests under the worst conditions assumed for decision before determining whether or not erma-links is used. e erma-links cannot be used as a current sensitive fuse 2) To bring out fuy the performances of erma-links, a suitabe erma-links for equipment must be seected. Verification tests to seect sha be made yoursef every mode. Tests shoud be repeated for the finished equipment to confirm that the erma-links does operate as expected. To maximize the therma response of erma-links, bring both the body and the eads (terminas) as cose to the heat source as possibe and put into mounting ocation where the erma-links is eveny heated. If there is arge difference between the temperature transferred to the body and the temperature transferred to the eads (terminas), erma-links might operate fauty and cause in arcing and insuation deterioration. 3) erma-links body and eads (terminas) must be propery fixed when the erma-links is mounted in the equipment. It may cause breaking of therma eement and/or eads (terminas), or damages of the erma-links body, or other faiure when the body or eads (terminas) is not propery connected. Avoid a transport under the condition with a connection ony a singe side of ead (termina) and the equipment as it might cause breaking of therma eement and/or eads (terminas), or damages of the erma-links body, or other faiure due to the vibration or mechanica stress on the transportation. 4) When erma-links is mounted in the equipment, eads (terminas) must be aigned with the body. If erma-links body and eads (terminas) are mutuay mounted askew, it might cause breaking of therma eement and/or eads (terminas). Aso after assembing erma-links in the equipment, avoid puing, bending, pushing stress and twisting stress in the erma-links body and eads (terminas) in order not to cause breaking of therma eement and/or eads (terminas), or damages of the erma-links body. 5) Avoid vibration or other stress in the finished equipment. ey may cause breaking of therma eement and/or eads and damage of erma-links body by the vibration or some stress even if the erma-links in the equipment is kept at temperatures beow its Maximum operating temperature. 6) When seaing the erma-links with resin, seect the resin that does not corrode the body and/or eads (terminas). When seaing the overa erma-links with resin, test repeatedy on the finished equipment in order to confirm if erma-links is damaged by the expansion and shrinkage of the resin itsef, by the curing temperature, and if the seaed erma-links operate normay. 7) When immersing equipment on which the erma-links is mounted in varnish or sovent and drying it, repeat the test to check whether or not the varnish or sovent used dissoves the coating of the erma-links or causes damage, such as cracks, before performing the treatment A0408-7

In iquids such as water, oi, chemica and/or organic sovent. Under direct sunight, and/or outdoor and/or dusty atmospheres. In pace where water condensation occurs. * Use in the foowing environments may affect the performance of the erma-links; Verify performance and reiabiity etc. before production use. a. In paces fu of corrosive gases such as sea breeze, C 2, H 2 S, NH 3, SO 2 and/or NO 2. b. In environment with high static eectricity and/or strong eectromagnetic waves. * Do not use erma-links in aerospace equipment, atomic energy equipment, miitary weapon, ife saving equipment, etc. 2. PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING 1)Forming and cutting Leads (terminas) are to be bent or cut at east 3 mm away from the erma-links body to avoid damaging the erma-links (axia/radia type) or body (thin type). Sha not be grasped with any toos or hoders. Terminas of thin type erma-links are to be grasped before they are bent. (See Fig.1, and this way is one of requirements by UL). If you have to form the ead at a position of a shorter ength than 3 mm away from the seaant, you shoud take care not to damage to the seaant and the fusibe aoy and cosey check erma-links if the forming affects it. It is recommended that experimenta assemby be made by production personne to verify that manufacturing procedures does not exceed neither a puing forces of 20N nor a pushing forces of 5N on the eadspuing forces of 5N and pushing forces of of 5N in case of thin type), and that manufacturing procedures does not induce excessive twisting between both eads (terminas) or between ead (termina) and body. e eads (terminas) sha not be nicked, fractured or burned. e body must not be damaged, burned or overheated. Excessive sodering heat and sodering time may cause damage to erma-links. In higher temperature, onger time or shorter ead ength exists rather than the conditions of Tabe 1, it is recommended to run tests for finding the sodering conditions that do not damaged the erma-links. Aso use of toos such as piers is recommended to dissipate sodering heat by grasping ead wires between the erma-links body and sodering point. Avoid preheating and gradua cooing as much as possibe. However if preheating and gradua cooing is done, set the process conditions after confirming that erma-links is not affected by these procedures. Do not use any refow sodering. in type (ML, MS, MU series) is not to be sodered. If water or sovent is used for ceaning fux after sodering, check and confirm cosey performance and reiabiity of erma-links. When required to connect erma-links by weding or caking, it is necessary to connect securey at a position of at east 3mm away from the seaant of erma-links so that it may be not appied excessive stresses. Improper connections may resut in premature opening due to excessive heating from a high contact resistance. Set the conditions for weding or caking ony after checking the contact resistance and the connection strength. When re-sodering or re-weding, coo off erma-links in the room temperature. Whie erma-links is heated by sodering or weding, be carefu not to pu, push or twist the ead. Because their stresses resut in breaking out of ead or seaant. It is recommended that the preiminary test to determine proper weding conditions is made in order not to make the heat of weding infuence erma-links, for exampe, function the erma-links or narrow the fusibe aoy, etc, and in order that the weding method, ike a resistance weding, aser weding, utrasonic weding and so on, does not damage to erma-links. For repacement, insta the same part number of erma-links in the same way exacty. 3. Recommendations for quaity contro 1)Measuring resistance and checking the interna status by X-rays equipment are effective means to confirm the erma-links deivered and assembed in your product. 2)It is necessary to confirm norma operation of erma-links with the tria pieces and the equipment of the initia production ot set at norma condition and at abnorma condition. 4. Storage method 1)Store erma-links in packing cases or in poyethyene bags within the temperature of -10 to +40 and reative humidity of 30% to 75%. Store them at the ocation where no rapid change of temperature or humidity, or no direct sunight is appied. e ocation must aso be free from vibration or shock or the ike. 2)Avoid the storage in paces containing corrosive gases such as sea breeze, C2, H2S, NH3, SO2 and/or NO2. 3)e period of guarantee for performance such as soderabiity / wedabiity is for one year after our deivery; and this condition appies ony in the case where the storage method specified in above has been foowed. 5. Law and Reguations 1)No ozone-depeting substances subjected to reguations under the Montrea Protoco are used in our manufacturing processes, incuding in the manufacture of this product. 2)A the materias used in this product exist in chemica substances recognized under Lows on examination of chemica substances and reguations of manufacturing and others. 3)None of the materias used in this product contain the designated incombustibe bromic substances, PBBOs or PBBs. 4)Pease contact us to obtain a notice as to whether this product has passed inspection under review criteria primariy based on Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Contro Law and appended tabe in the Export Contro Law. 6.
