7 Product description 3 Product description 3.1 Configuration Scope of deivery Components The scope of deivery encompasses: VEGAVIB 63 eve sensor Documentation - this operating instructions manua - Ex-specific safety instructions (with Ex versions) and, if necessary, further certificates VEGAVIB 63 consists of the foowing components: Housing cover Housing with eectronics process fitting with vibrating rod Fig. 1: VEGAVIB 63 - with pastic housing 1 Housing cover 2 Housing with eectronics 3 Process fitting 3.2 Principe of operation Area of appication VEGAVIB 63 is a eve sensor with vibrating rod for eve detection. It is designed for industria use in a areas of process technoogy and is preferaby used for buk soids. VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output 7

8 Product description Typica appications are overfi and dry run protection. Thanks to its simpe and robust measuring system, VEGAVIB 63 is virtuay unaffected by the chemica and physica properties of the soid. It functions even when exposed to strong externa vibration or changing products. Soid detection in water If VEGAVIB 63 was ordered for soid detection in water, the vibrating rod is to the density of water. In air or if covered by water (density: 1 g/cm³/0.036 bs/in) VEGAVIB 63 signas uncovered. Ony if the vibrating eement is aso covered with soids (e.g. sand, sudge, grave etc.) wi the sensor signa covered. Faut monitoring The eectronics of VEGAVIB 63 continuousy monitors the foowing criteria: Correct vibrating frequency Line break to the piezo drive If one of these fauts is detected or in case the power suppy fais, the eectronics takes on a defined switching condition, i.e. the reay deenergizes (safe condition). Physica principe Power suppy The vibrating rod is piezoeectricay energised and vibrates at its mechanica resonance frequency of approx. 360 Hz. When the vibrating rod is submerged in the product, the vibrating ampitude changes. This change is detected by the integrated osciator and converted into a switching command. VEGAVIB 63 is a compact instrument, i.e. it can be operated without externa evauation system. The integrated eectronics evauates the eve signa and outputs a switching signa. With this switching signa, a connected device can be operated directy (e.g. a warning system, a PLC, a pump etc.). The exact range of the power suppy is stated in the Technica data in the Suppement. 3.3 Adjustment With the factory setting with a density >0.05 g/cm³ (>0.002 bs/ in³) can be measured. The instrument can be adapted if products with ower density shoud be measured. On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: 8 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test acc. to DIN The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. In addition, the sensor is provided with a protective cover of cardboard. For specia versions PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. 10 Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Switching point Moisture In genera, VEGAVIB 63 can be mounted in any position. The instrument must be mounted in such a way that the tuning fork is at the height of the requested switching point. Use the recommended cabe (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe entry. You can give your VEGAVIB 63 additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Fig. 2: Measures against moisture penetration Transport Pressure/Vacuum Do not hod VEGAVIB 63 on the vibrating eement. Especiay with fange and tube versions, the sensor can be damaged by the weight of the instrument. Remove the protective cover just before mounting. The process fitting must be seaed if there is gauge or ow pressure in the vesse. Before use, check if the sea materia is resistant against the measured product and the process temperature. Handing The vibrating eve switch is a measuring instrument and must be treated accordingy. Bending the vibrating eement wi destroy the instrument. 10 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

11 Mounting Warning: The housing must not be used to screw the instrument in! Appying tightening force to the housing can damage its interna mechanica components. To screw in, use the hexagon above the thread. 4.2 Mounting information Agitators and fuidization Due to agitators, vibrations or simiar, the eve switch can be subjected to strong atera forces. For this reason, do not use an overy ong extension tube for VEGAVIB 63, but check if you can mount a short eve switch on the side of the vesse in horizonta position. Extreme vibrations from the system side, e.g. by agitators or turbuence in the vesse, e.g. by fuidization can cause the extension tube of VEGAVIB 63 to vibrate. This wi cause increased stress on the upper wed joint. Shoud a onger tube version be necessary, you can provide a suitabe straining or fastening directy above the tuning fork to fasten the extension tube. This measure appies particuary to appications in Ex areas. Make sure that the tube is not subjected to bending forces through this measure. Infowing materia If VEGAVIB 63 is mounted in the fiing stream, unwanted switching signas may be generated. Mount VEGAVIB 63 at a ocation in the vesse where no disturbing infuence from e.g. fiing openings, agitators, etc. can occur. This appies particuary to instrument types with ong extension tube. VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output 11

12 Mounting Fig. 3: Infowing materia Lock fitting Socket Materia cone VEGAVIB 63 can be mounted with a ock fitting for height adjustment. Take note of the pressure information of the ock fitting. The vibrating eement shoud protrude into the vesse to avoid buidup. For that reason, avoid using mounting bosses for fanges and screwed fittings. This appies particuary to use with adhesive products. Materia cones can form in soids sios which can change the switching point. Pease keep this in mind when instaing the sensor in the vesse. We recommend seecting an instaation ocation where the vibrating rod detects an average vaue of the materia cone. Depending on the arrangement of the fiing and emptying opening in the vesse, the vibrating rod must be mounted respectivey. To compensate measurement errors in cyindrica vesses caused by the materia cone, the sensor must be mounted at a distance of d/6 from the vesse wa. 12 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

16 Connecting to power suppy 5 Connecting to power suppy 5.1 Preparing the connection Note safety instructions Take note of safety instructions for Ex appications Seect power suppy Seecting the connection cabe Aways observe the foowing safety instructions: Connect ony in the compete absence of ine votage In hazardous areas you shoud take note of the appropriate reguations, conformity and type approva certificates of the sensors and power suppy units. Connect the power suppy acc. to the foowing diagrams. Osciator VB 60R is designed in protection cass 1. To maintain this protection cass, it is absoutey necessary that the ground conductor is connected to the interna ground termina. Take note of the genera instaation reguations. As a rue, connect VEGAVIB 63 to vesse ground (PA), or in case of pastic vesses, to the next ground potentia. On the side of the housing there is a ground termina between the cabe entries. This connection serves to drain off eectrostatic charges. In Ex appications, the instaation reguations for hazardous areas must be given priority. The data for power suppy are stated in the Technica data in the Suppement. VEGAVIB 63 is connected with standard cabe with round wire cross section. An outer cabe diameter of 5 9 mm ( in) ensures the sea effect of the cabe entry. If cabe with a different diameter or wire cross section is used, exchange the sea or use an appropriate cabe connection. In hazardous areas, ony use approved cabe connections for VEGAVIB 63. Seect connection cabe for Ex appications Take note of the corresponding instaation reguations for Ex appications. 5.2 Connection procedure With Ex instruments, the housing cover may ony be opened if there is no exposive atmosphere. Proceed as foows: 16 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

20 Set up 6 Set up 6.1 Genera The numbers in brackets refer to the foowing iustrations. Function/Configuration On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: Potentiometer for switching point adaptation (1) DIL switch for mode adjustment - min/max (2) Signa amp (5) Note: As a rue, aways set the mode with the mode switch (2) before starting to set up VEGAVIB 63. The switching output wi change if you set the mode switch (2) afterwards. This coud possiby trigger other connected instruments or devices. 6.2 Adjustment eements Fig. 11: Eectronics modue VB 60R - Reay output 1 Potentiometer for switching point adaptation 2 DIL switch for mode adjustment 3 Ground termina 4 Terminas 5 Contro amp 20 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

21 Set up Switching point adaptation (1) Mode adjustment (2) Signa amp (5) You can adapt the switching point to the soid with the potentiometer. The switching point is preset and covered by a abe. It must ony be modified in specia cases. By defaut, the potentiometer of VEGAVIB 63 is set to mid position ( g/cm³ or bs/in³). In very ight soids, turn the potentiometer to compete eft position ( g/cm³ or bs/in³). By doing this, VEGAVIB 63 wi be more sensitive and ight soids can be detected more reiaby. For very heavy soids, turn the potentiometer to the compete right position (>0.3 g/cm³ or >0.011 bs/in³). Hence VEGAVIB 63 is ess sensitive. For instruments detecting soids in water, these vaues are not appicabe. The potentiometer is preset and must not be changed. With the mode adjustment (min./max.) you can change the switching condition of the reay. You can set the required mode acc. to the "Function chart" (max. -max. detection or overfi protection, min. -min. detection or dry run protection). We recommend connecting acc. to the quiescent current principe (repay contact deenergizes when reaching the switching point), because the reay takes on the same (safe) condition if a faiure is detected. 28 Functiona safety 9 Functiona safety 9.1 Genera Vaidity Area of appication Safety function Reevant standards Safety requirements This safety manua appies to measuring systems consisting of VEGAVIB 63 vibrating eve switches and integrated osciator VB60R. The instrument corresponds to a subsystem of type B. The sensor software must correspond at east to version 1.03 or higher. The measuring system can be used for eve detection of powders and granues which meet the specific requirements of the safety technoogy, e.g.: Mode "max" for overfi protection Mode "min" for dry run protection The measuring system is quaified in both modes to meet the foowing requirement degree acc. to IEC : SIL2 with architecture 1oo1D (singe channe) SIL3 with architecture 1oo2D (doube-channe/redundant) With a specia factory setting, the measuring system is aso suitabe for detection of soids in water (see operating instructions manua). The safety function of this measuring system is the detection and signaing of the condition of the vibration eement. The safe condition depends on the mode: In mode "max": condition "covered" In mode "min": condition "uncovered" IEC , -2, -4 - Functiona safety of eectrica/eectronic/programmabe eectronic systems The faiure imit vaues for a safety function, depending on the SIL cass (of IEC , 7.6.2) Safety integrity eve Low demand mode High demand mode SIL PFD avg PFH 4 >=10-5 up to <10-4 >=10-9 up to < >=10-4 up to <10-3 >=10-8 up to < >=10-3 up to <10-2 >=10-7 up to < >=10-2 up to <10-1 >=10-6 up to < VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

Acc. to the specifications in the operating instructions manua, the current oad of the output circuits must be within the imits. It must be used ony in products to which the materias of the vibrating system are sufficienty chemicay resistant. Note the foowing items for use as dry run protection system: Avoid buidup on the vibrating system (possiby smaer proof test intervas) For the impementation of FMEDA (Faiure Mode, Effects and Diagnostics Anaysis) the foowing assumptions form the basis: Faiure rates are constant, wear of the mechanica parts is not taken into account Faiure rates of externa power suppies are not incuded Mutipe errors are not taken into account The average ambient temperature during the operating time is +40 C (104 F) The environmenta conditions correspond to an average industria environment The ifetime of the components is around 8 to 12 years (IEC , , remark 3) The processing unit evauates the output circuit of the measuring system acc. to the quiescent current principe. VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output 29

30 Functiona safety Low demand mode High demand mode The communication via the IIC bus interface is ony used for defaut scaing and for service purposes. The repair time (exchangeof themeas. system) after a faisafe error is eight hours (MTTR = 8 h) In the mode with the owest demand rate, the reaction time of a connected contro and processing unit to dangerous detectabe errors is max. 1 hour. If the demand rate is ony once a year, then the measuring system can be used as safety-reevant subsystem in "ow demand mode" (IEC , ). If the ratio of the interna diagnostics test rate of the measuring system to the demand rate exceeds the vaue 100, the measuring system can be treated in the way it is executing a safety function in the mode with ow demand rate (IEC , ). Corresponding characteristics is the vaue PFD avg (average Probabiity of dangerous Faiure on Demand). It is dependent on the test interva T Proof between the function tests of the protective function. Numbers see paragraph "Safety-technica characteristics". If the "ow demand mode" does not appy, the measuring system must be used as safety-reevant subsystem in "high demand" (IEC , ). The faut toerance time of the compete system must be higher than the sum of the reaction times or the diagnostics test periods of a components in the safety chain. Corresponding characteristics is the vaue PFH (faiure rate). Numbers see paragraph "Safety-technica characteristics". Safe condition and faut description The safe condition of the measuring system is the switched off status (quiescent current principe): VB60R (reay output) Reay deenergized A fai-safe faiure (safe faiure) exists if the measuring system changes to the defined safe condition without demand of the process. If the interna diagnosis system recognises a faiure, the safe condition is taken up. A dangerous undetected faiure exists if the measuring system does not go to the defined safe condition when required by the process. 30 VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output

31 Functiona safety Configuration of the processing unit The processing unit must evauate the output circuit of the measuring system by taking the quiescent current principe into account. The processing unit must correspond to the SIL eve of the measuring chain. 9.3 Setup Mounting and instaation The prevaiing pant conditions infuence the safety of the measuring system. Therefore note the mounting and instaation instructions of the appropriate operating instructions manua. Mainy important is the correct setting of the mode (min./max.). In heavy or very ight-weight soids the switching point of the measuring system must be adapted acc. to the operating instructions manua depending on the density imits. 9.4 Reaction during operation and in case of faiure The adjustment eements must not be modified during operation. In case of modifications during operation, you have to take note of the safety functions. Occurring faut signas are described in the appropriate operating instructions manua. In case of detected faiures or faut signas, the entire measuring system must be switched out of service and the process hed in a safe condition by means of other measures. An eectronics exchange is easiy possibe and described in the operating instructions manua. If due to the detected faiure, the eectronics or the compete sensor is interchanged, the manufacturer must be informed (inc. a faut description). 9.5 Recurring function test The recurring function test serves to revea potentia dangerous errors that are otherwise not discernibe. The function of the measuring system must be checked at adequate intervas. The operator is responsibe for choosing the type of test and the intervas in the stated time frame. The time frame depends on the PFD avg vaue acc. to the chart and diagram in section "Safety-reated characteristics". VEGAVIB 63 - with reay output 31

32 Functiona safety In high demand rate, no recurring function test is arranged in IEC A proof of the functiona efficiency is seen in the more frequent demand of the measuring system. In doube channe architectures it is usefu to proof the redundancy by recurring function tests in appropriate intervas. The test must be carried out in a way that verifies the fawess operation of the safety functions in conjunction with a system components. This is ensured by a controed reaching of the response height during fiing. If fiing up to the response height is not possibe, then a response of the measuring system must be triggered by a suitabe simuation of the eve or the physica effect. The methods and procedures used during the tests must be stated and their suitabiity must be specified. The tests must be documented. If the function test proves negative, the entire measuring system must be switched out of service and the process hed in a safe condition by means of other measures. In the doube channe architecture 1oo2D this appies separatey to both channes. 9.6 Safety-reated characteristics The faiure rates of the eectronics and the vibrating system are determined by an FMEDA acc. to IEC These cacuations are based on component faiure rates acc. to SN A numerica vaues refer to an average ambient temperature during the operating time of +40 C (104 F). The cacuations are aso based on the specifications stated in chapter "Panning".
