3 Water Poo for everyone Very few sports combine teamwork and strategy with the eve of ski, speed and endurance high performance water poo payers have to dispay in the poo. However, water poo is aso a fun and accessibe activity that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of peope, regardess of their fitness and ski eve. Not a water poo participants can become Nationa Team athetes and coaches or FINA eve referees. Moreover, not a participants want to invest the significant hours and funds it takes to achieve this status. Our water poo system aows athetes mutipe programming opportunities to seek their individua goas, whether it is a Nationa Team career, competitive water poo or simpy using water poo as a fun and heathy activity. What is Long-Term Athete Deveopment (LTAD)? LTAD combines sports science with the art of coaching to propose a progression where water poo payers can deveop skis and enjoy the sport through training and competition that are we adapted to their persona goas and to the different stages in deveopment (physica, emotiona, menta and cognitive maturation) rather than chronoogica age. The phiosophies and ideoogies behind LTAD are athete-centered, coach-driven, and administration, sport science and sponsor-supported 1. Using the principes of LTAD to improve Water Poo in Canada For water poo in Canada to grow and thrive, the training and competition structure, coaching, officiating, system aignment, cooperation and succession panning must be highy effective and extremey efficient. A sustainabe domestic infrastructure (grassroots and high performance) wi foster success at the Word Championships and Oympic Games whie reaching the objectives of a heathier Canada. Practices shoud ast no onger than 60 minutes in ength. Programs shoud have 2-3 practices per week aowing for participation in other physica activities, which is to be encouraged on a daiy basis. 3- Goas can be made up of any materia. Cubs shoud offer practices 3 times per week ranging from minutes in ength pus 30 minutes of dry and training each practice that promotes physica iteracy. Athetes shoud be paying 2 games per day (maximum of 3) and a maximum of 5 games over a 48 hour period. There shoud be a minimum rest time of 30 minutes between games. Suggested annua training and competition caendar is avaiabe from WPC. Athetes shoud be encouraged to participate in other sports and activities namey swimming, athetics, gymnastics and other team sports. 5- Goas can be made up of any materia. Athetes who have entered the Exceence stream 10 shoud begin training in water-poo 12 months per year and 6 days per week with periodic rest of no more than 2 consecutive weeks. Competition format and caendar: Provincia and cub-eve competitions. 7- Length is measured from goa ine to goa ine. 8- It is recommended that teams carry two goatenders one of which is at the eary stages of this pathway (~13 years od). 9- Four quarters of 7 minutes stop time with a 2 minute interva break between the 1st and 2nd quarter, 3 minute haf-time and a 2 minute interva break between the 3rd and 4th quarter. 10- See Usefu Definitions for stream of competition, training and competition expanations.

Cubs and Provincia Sport Organizations shoud create seasona programs as water poo may not be the priority for the athetes in this stream. However, programs shoud aign with the Exceence stream as cosey as possibe so new athetes can sti enter the sport and be provided with adequate training and competition to make the transition into Exceence stream. It is recommended that these athetes pay a maximum of 2 games per day with a minimum of 4 hours of rest between games and a maximum of 5 games over a 72 hour period. Competition structure and caendar: Caendars for each age group within this stream is determined by Provincia Sport Organizations however it are critica that each provincia caendar aigns with the nationa caendar. 20- Any and a poos that is avaiabe. Maximum size of the fied of pay shoud be 25m x 20m. The minimum depth shoud be a deep water. 21- Four quarters of 7 minutes stop time with a 2 minute interva break between each quarter. 22- See Usefu Definitions for training and competition.

The fied of pay, the number of athetes in the water and the ength of the game shoud be modified to encourage new teams and equa opportunity sport (i.e. increase the number of femae athetes and minority groups). Training and competition considerations: Refer to modified rues tabe on page 14. For younger ages, use same modified rues as Eary Competitive Foundations. Cubs and Provincia Sport Organization shoud create seasona programs as water poo is not the priority in this stream. The focus needs to be on fun, socia and meaningfu training (i.e. exercise) and competition (i.e. match simiar skis and abiities. 23- Any and a poos that is avaiabe. Maximum size of the fied of pay shoud be 25m x 20m.
13 Usefu definitions Long-Term Athete Deveopment (LTAD): is a payer and participant deveopment mode from payground to podium. It is a phiosophy for modifying the sport cuture in Canada. LTAD affects governance at a eves, coaching, officiating and competition. LTAD is an athete-centered approach, coach driven and administrativey supported. Nationa Cub Championships (NCC): Is the Nationa event for each age group identified by WPC and organized by Water Poo Canada (WPC) and the host cub based on a rotating bid process. The current NCC for each age group is one weekend, however, the proposed changes are for an NCC League over an entire program year with the Nationa Fina occurring over one weekend. Stream of competition: This term is used to describe the type of training and competition, time commitment, type of competitions, etc. associated with each stage of deveopment. There are four streams identified throughout Physica Literacy, Active for Life (A4L), Competitive for Life (C4L) and Exceence. Water Poo Canada is responsibe for the Exceence stream competitions whie A4L and C4L competitions are organized by cubs and provincia sports organizations. Stage of deveopment: This term is used to define the deveopmenta age and the needs of the athete. Each stage of deveopment has an approximate chronoogica age, however, the key is to understand training needs based on the physica, emotiona, menta and cognitive maturation of the individua. Training and Competition: Training is defined as the deveopment of the athetic abiities in a practice environment or non-eague environment: conditioning (physica and motor); technica (skis and individua tactics); tactica (non-eague games, simuated games, exhibition games, haf-court, etc.); and menta (cognitive and emotiona). Competition is referred to as a major competition eading to the fina outcome/peak within the program year. Water Poo Canada (WPC): Is the governing body for water poo in Canada deivering eadership in coach and referee education and athete deveopment, organizing Nationa eve competitions and representing Canada on the internationa stage. 13
