2 ItiswithgreatenthusiasmandexcitementthatIwritethisarticleasI anxiouslyawaitforsnowtoarriveonourtrails.asyouareallaware, ournewtrailheadfacilities(daylodge,maintenancefacilityandnew stadiumloop)areprogressingwellandnearingcompletion.and thereinliestheconundrum;iwantsnowtocomesoweallcanski,yet Iwantthesnowtoholdoffsowecanfinishourconstructionprojects beforethesnowflies.butmydesireforskiingwinsso LETITSNOW, LETITSNOW! Asyoucanseebythephotosinthisnewsletter,ournewDayLodge withcustodianresidenceandmaintenancefacilityarealmost complete.icannotgoanyfurtherwithoutthankingthefinancial contributionstheclubreceivedfromthecolumbiabasintrust ($75,000forbuildingconstructioncostsplus$10,000forstadium constructioncosts),columbiashuswapregionaldistrict Economic OpportunitiesFund($125,000),theCityofRevelstokes Tourism InfrastructureFund($150,000),RevelstokeCreditUnion($3,000for stadiumconstructioncosts),andtheprovincialgovernmentswage subsidyprogramthroughtheministryofhousingandsocial Development EmploymentandLabourMarketServiceswhichhas covered80%ofallthewagecostsforourconstructionworkers.in additiontothisdirectfinancialsupport,wehavealsoreceived incrediblesupportfromourlocalbusinesses.withoutfail,every contractorandhiredequipmentwehaveusedonthisprojecthas reducedtheirinvoicestotheclubinrecognitionoftheircommitment toacommunitysponsoredinitiative.thissavingshasequaledan amountcloseto$200,000!!! Finallymanyofourclubmembershavedonatedcountlesshoursto turntheseprojectsintoarealitythatweallwillbeabletoenjoyina fewshortweeks.onbehalfofallmembersandtheclubexecutive, wetrulythankyouforyoureffortandtime. Iamlookingforwardtomeetingmanyofyouforahotchocolatein ourdaylodgethiswinter. 3 SkiLeague2010/11 We regettingclosetoanotherseasonandourkidsareasking, Whereisthesnow? OurTrackAttackteam(ages9 12)hasbeen meetingweeklythroughoutthefallfordrylandtraining,ledby ever steadybrucegranstromandthe kingofpain CamMolder. Enrolmentincludes25Rabbits(ages6 9)andalmostthesame numberoftrackattackers.however,weonlyhave13bunnies. Thisgroupisforages4 6andwe vehadeasilytwicethatnumber overthepastcoupleofseasons.areweinabunnydrought?ihope not. ThedeadlineforregisteringforSkiLeagueisDecember1.Weneed tohaveallkidsregisteredbythatdatesowehavetimetosubmit ourinformationtocrosscountrybc,thefolkswhosupplyour insuranceandsupplyuswithallthegoodieswegettohandoutto thekidseveryyear. 4 TheTeamScreamSkiRelayracewillbeheldthis yearonsaturdayfebruary12,2011atthemt MacphersonSkiTrails.Registrationisfrom9:30to 10:30withtheracestartingat11:00.Theformat forthetandemraceisthesameaspreviousyears withtwoskiers,oneclassicandonefreestyle,each skiingalaparoundthemickeyolsonloop.the bestcombinedtimeineachcategorywins.this yearweareaddinganadditionalcategoryof individualpursuitwereoneskierdoesboththe classicandfreestylelapsthemselves.theemphasis asalwaysforthisraceisonparticipationandfun sogetapartnerorgetorganizedtodoityourself andcomeouttoenjoythefun.ifyoucan tfinda partnercomeouttowatchorwe llhelpmatchyou withapartner. Aprizewillbeawardedforthebestcostumeagain thisyear.thisyearthethemeforcostumesis Western/Cowboysodesigningacostumeshouldbe lotsoffun.useyourimagination! AftertheracetherewillbeashortracefortheSki LeagueBunniesandotheryoungskiers. Thereisnocostfortheraceifyouareaclub member.nonmemberspaythedayrate. TeamScream2011 Volunteering AlloftheactivitiesprovidedbytheClubaredoneby clubvolunteers.thisincludesthecoachingforour children sprograms,trailgrooming(summerand winter),collectionoftrailfees,maintenanceof equipment,hostingofracesandspecialevents.by usingvolunteerstocompletetheseprojects,theclubis abletokeepitsmembershipcostsextremely reasonableandaffordable(seemembershipfees below).asonecanimagine,alloftheseactivitiescan takeaconsiderableamountoftimeforafewhardy hands,orasmallamountoftimeformanyhelpful hands.asaclubmember,pleaseconsiderhowyou willprovidevolunteerhelptoensuretheclub s continuedsuccessinthefuture.belowisalistingof volunteerinitiativesthatrequirefolkstohelpwith. Grooming: Oneofthecornerstonesourclubprovidesisthe provisionofgroomedcrosscountryskitrails.formany years,thistaskhasstalwartlybeencarriedoutbyatrio ofmusketeers;brianabear,mickeyoslonandal MCinnes.Thesethreeclubvolunteershaveprovided thousandsofhoursovertheyearsgroomingourtrails. Thesegentlemencoulduseahandinhelpingtospread theloadofcontinuouslyprovidinggroomedtrailsfor skiersaftereachandeverysnowfall,orspringmelt /freezeevent.wewouldliketoincreaseour contingentoftrainedgroomersfrom3upto8or10. Withthisnumberofgroomers,notonlywillwebeable tospreadtheburdenofgroomingamongstmore people,wewillbeabletoincreasethefrequencyof grooming.wewillbeholdinga Groomertraining sessioninthecomingweeks(whenthesnowflies).if youareinterested,pleasecontactkevinbollefer( (w)or (h),Kevin@rcfc.bc.ca).
