Have you ever wished there was a nice waterproof map that could be used as a navigational aid and not only indicated the Catamount Trail, but also showed the surrounding terrain, other trails, access points, and parking areas? Well, now there is. There are 2 maps, a north and south, and they are currently available through the CTA online store. Members: $9.95/each $18.00/set Non-Members: $11.95/each $22.00/set The Vermont Backcountry Alliance (VTBC) is a program of the Catamount Association (CTA) that seeks to protect, advance and advocate for human-powered backcountry skiing and snowboarding in Vermont. It is guided by a diverse, and primarily volunteer, working group of backcountry-oriented skiers and riders. The VTBC works collaboratively with the CTA and many other partners to facilitate backcountry programs and projects in Vermont. Please go to vtbc.org for more info. 51

52 Frequently Asked Questions... In a nutshell, what does the Catamount Trail Association offer the community? The Catamount Trail Association (CTA) manages, maintains, and conserves the Catamount Trail, a 300-mile backcountry ski trail (for winter-use only) that runs the length of Vermont from the Massachusetts border to Canada. The Catamount Trail (CT) is a free recreational resource that provides access to miles and miles of beautiful terrain for skiers and snowshoers to enjoy. The CTA also offers single and multi-day backcountry ski tours, instructional events, a youth nordic ski program, and other events to help promote backcountry and nordic skiing in Vermont. What sustains this organization? Memberships, contributions, grants, and events allow us to maintain our small staff and continue to do the work we do. But, it is the landowners who host the trail, the volunteers who maintain the trail, and an open and collaborative approach to keeping the trail alive that truly sustain the organization. Where does the trail actually begin and end? The Catamount Trail begins at the MA border in the town of Readsboro, VT and ends at the Quebec border in North Troy, VT. In total, it passes through 36 towns and covers 300 miles of beautiful backcountry terrain. The CT is divided into 31 sections that are generally skiable in a single day. Maps and section descriptions are available at no cost on our website at. How can people help support the CTA? 1. Visit our website and become a member and/or make a donation to the Catamount Trail Association. Membership has benefits! To become a member or make a donation please visit our website at 2. Join us at one of our events or on a tour. In the winter we offer over 40 day tours on or near the Catamount Trail, several instructional events, and 4 multi-day tours that help skiers knock off all 31 sections to become an End-To-Ender. 3. Volunteer at one of our events, help maintain the trail, or assist with office tasks. No matter how productive a day is... there is always another box to check. Our generous volunteers are the reason we get anything done and are able to accomplish all that we do. 4. Get outside in the winter and use the Catamount Trail! 54 2016 Multi-Day Tour Schedule This season we re mixing up our tours again and will be offering one (1) Weeklong Tour (WLT) and four (4) Four Day Tours (4DT s). Each of these Multi-Day Tours (MDT s) provide an opportunity to ski a large portion of the Catamount Trail in a single push, while enjoying the company of others. Skiers may sign-up for as many days as they wish, even if that means only one. Also, check out their new FatBike Category! Topsy Turvy Derby saturday, march 26th Explore section 22 of the CT from Bolton to Trapps while helping raise money for the Catamount Ski Cubs. A shuttle will be provided to the start as well as music, food and refreshments at the end. The tour is ~17km with 1300ft of climbing followed by 2300 ft of DOWN!
