Granite Peak has 74 runs, 5 Terrain Parks and 65 acres of tree skiing! Black Runs: The East side of the mountain has very scenic black runs Fox Paw Glades Meadow Ridge Glades Prango s Glades, 10th Mountain Glades Eastern Glades It s usuallysecluded and snowy white with snow covering most of the branches of this very wooded area. The Western Runs can be accessed by the high speed Comet lift and has the Western Glades Thunder Glades Panarama, Legends, Coyote Gulch, Red Quartz and Gem Stone runs. These are serviced by the Donner Lift and provide beautiful scenery and tranquility! Terrain Parks: Both areas mentioned above have a terrain park. 5 in all. Mission Ridge on the East side, and the Main Event on the western side and Sugar Maple and Aspen in the middle of the mountain and a small Tyro Terrain Park for the beginner. Beginner Runs: Great place to bring your kids to learn and practice on the mountain. Lifts go half way up the mountain and there s also the magic carpet for the true beginner. 2 Page 2 Message from the Prez Ski season is almost upon us. Our favorite locations are already sending out notices of first snow. But before we rush too far ahead, we have been taking moments to enjoy the fall season with our social get-togethers at the Vine in Grayslake and Octoberfest at the Hofbrauhaus in Rosemont. Looking forward we will be repeating our Thanksgiving Eve gathering check out our Social activities area for more details. In about six weeks we will be off to our first ski location, Snowbird, followed closely by our New Year s Eve trip to Lake Tahoe. Although, we have been releasing hotel spots and airline seats, if you are still interested in going, just reach out to our trip chair, Jean Bagel, to see what options remain. Paula Snowbird Can t wait to start skiing? The Snowbird/Alta trip leaves Thursday 12/12 and returns Monday 12/16. Good departure and arrival times means there is no need to take more than 2 vacation days from work. The United direct flight leaves O Hare on December 12 th at 5:56 pm and arrives in Salt Lake City at 8:26 pm. This fabulous price of $875 includes roundtrip airfare, ground transportation between SLC airport and the Cliff Lodge, 4 nights lodging and 3 day lift. The current average roundtrip airfare is about $370 if you were to book on your own. Skiing at Snowbird is awesome and if you re looking for adventure you can upgrade your lift ticket to include skiing at Alta for a nominal price. (Around $30/day) Are you new to the club or a novice skier? If you want, we will pair you up with someone of similar ability. You can even take free lessons from one of IBEX s certified ski instructors. No day of skiing is complete without meeting up with the group for lunch and après-ski at the end of the day. Tired and sore? How does drinking your favorite beverage while gazing at the mountains in one of the three hot tubs on property sound? If you re hungry after skiing all day there are excellent restaurants at the Lodge. Monday s direct flight leaves Salt Lake at 4:06 pm and arrives in Chicago at 8:15 pm. This late departure gives you the opportunity to ski a half day. Arriving at O Hare around 8 pm leaves you plenty of time to sleep and awake refreshed for your first day back at work. Or, if you re lucky and don t have to work you can awake refreshed and do what you do. Let it snow... picture taken October 30 at Snowbird! The countdown to Snowbird has begun. In forty-two days we board the plane for Salt Lake City, Utah! The final payment for this trip is due by November 6 th. 3 Page 3 Breckenridge Ibex Spring-Breck 2014 Breckenridge, CO Hey Ibex Skiers and Riders, the spots are going fast for what is sure to be another epic Ibex Spring Ski trip to Breckenridge Colorado. Breck is opening its new Peak 6 terrain this coming ski season, including yet another high speed 6 pack lift, and a 4 person lift. This will increase the skiable acreage by 23%, adding another 543 acres to the varied terrain that Breckenridge offers. We will be staying in the luxurious Village at Breckenridge Condos. This property gives us access to the peak 9 high-speed 6 pack lift right out our back door, and access to historic main street Breckenridge out our front door. The property has no less than 8 hot tubs and a beautiful indoor/outdoor heated pool. There is a spa and fitness facility on site as well. We have a 5/6 day lift ticket and the ability to add a 6th day for only $60. This lift ticket gives us the option of skiing Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail and A-Basin, we will certainly be planning visits to these other mountains during the week. Breckenridge is an awesome and historic Colorado ski town with 76 restaurants and bars, over 200 shops and boutiques and 5 liquors 5tores to find your favorite adult vacation beverages. It also boasts a historic district with 250 structures. Breckenridge is an outdoor play ground with activities such as Ice Skating, Snowshoeing, Snowmobile tours, Sleigh Rides, even Zip- Lining, and there are theaters for plays and movies. Leave Denver: 3:25pm United #830 Arrive O Hare: 6:44pm This is going to be a great trip starting with our Wine and Cheese arrival party and continuing for 7 days of spring skiing in Colorado. We will plan lunch meeting locations, some casual group dinners, and we will even try to visit a few of those76 bars on a Friday evening pub crawl to celebrate the end of the ski week. Don t forget March is the actually the Snowiest month in Colorado. We will likely see warm spring skiing days and almost certainly a few snowy days that will provide a variety of conditions for the great snow riding terrain Breckenridge offers. With a base at 9000, and a peak at nearly 13,000, snow conditions are always fantastic in March at Breck. Don t forget the Ibex Ski School will be offering lessons to help you get the most out of your ski days. The place was packed with a live band that was all dressed in the German attire, but played little German music. The most popular tune of the night was Happy Birthday. Unfortunately, Paula spend most of her time stuck in traffic from the Eagles concert- but better late than never. She arrived in time to witness the waitress paddling a customer. Apparently it s a German tradition do a shot and the paddling is free. Hopefully the shot was strong enough to counter the paddling. The best food of the night was the huge ice cream and raspberries desert Adolf and Christine ordered---- Clean plate winners. Fun was had by all. MIDTOWN 5K WALK/RUN RECAP A handful of energetic (if not athletic) Ibex participated in the Midtown 5K Run & Walk on Sept. 28. It was a perfect early-fall morning for the event which took place at Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine. Let s just say that no records were broken, but the event was a great time. Proceeds benefitted Bears Care, an organization known for its support of childrens programs. Note: Missing from the photo is your dedicated activities coordinator, Sherri! We ll meet in the bar area at 6:30 pm. Right now they don t have a band listed for this night but that may change.
