4 Thank you to Jim who filled in for me at our February meeting. It was appreciated Jim. It was with interest that we watched TV1 s item on the classic American car (and seen in an advertisement) which has been converted to an electric motor. Somehow the quietness of the car did not match with the size of it! It is hard to imagine men gathering around to watch a former V8 take off without the throb/ burble of the engine/exhaust! I noticed that the latest Wheel Torque magazine also has an article on the effect of national and local government bodies commitment to achieving zero emissions and the effect it may have on fossil fuelled cars and classic car motoring. I am sure there will be some heated debates over the coming years regarding this subject. Unfortunately we missed the Show n Shine last month. Too distracted getting ready for family from overseas. We will have a brief breathing space after they have left to get ready for the Southern Connection in Oamaru over Easter. 6 CLUB CAPTAIN s Report Last month our Club Run was the Show n Shine with report from Glenis in this magazine. You will notice there were only Mk1 s and Mk2 s present on the day. Congratulations to Jim and Bob for the Show n Shine. This month we have the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop on 16th to 18th March, with over 600 cars already registered to date. Then of course we have our own Southern Connection at Easter 30th March to 2nd April. This is going to be a fantastic weekend meeting up with old and new friends. Please make sure you have sent in your 2nd sheet order form especially if you want a polo shirt. Hope to see you all at the next event. 7 Editor s Report Hello folks I don t know about you all, but I am enjoying it being a bit cooler now. It is a busy next few weeks with Rock and Hop, Swap meet at Winchester, then our Southern Connection in Oamaru. I hope everyone has a great Easter, whatever your plans are. Just travel safe! 8 Allan Sim recently celebrated his 65th birthday. His cake and a carved gift are very much Zephyr orientated. This Mk1 is in good order. Not much rain so has little rust. Happy birthday Allan. 6 15

Malcolm s Mk 1 Convertible in the 1957 Alexandra Blossom Festival Top ute bought for $50. Bottom bought for $150, no motor but good gearbox and other parts. Both too far gone to try and restore. 10 Show and Shine Sunday 18th February of us, Bob & Anne, Jim & Carol, Phil & Mary-Jean, Allison and myself, met at Highfield Café for breakfast before heading on out to Geraldine for a picnic lunch and the Show and Shine. At Geraldine we were met by Ross & Doreen and Geoff & Shona in the Gardens. A couple from Ashburton in a 1964, Rob & Karen, joined us for lunch. The cars were then judged by all members, with Mary-Jean, as Club Captain, judging Most Original. Winners were: Best Mk1 Jim MacDonald Best Mk2 Bob Stevens Best Club Car Bob Stevens Most Original Jim MacDonald Congratulations to you all. There were 5 great cars there on the day. Glenis Hull 8 13

11 Hanmer Motorfest February After a nice drive up to Hanmer Spring's, apart from the odd roadworks, we met at the Domain for the Friday night cruise through town and a few streets. Around 70 cars turned up for this. The locals really enjoyed seeing all the cars. On the Saturday we parked up with Christchurch lads, as they were kind enough to save a spot for my car with them. It was a shame a few South Canterbury members hadn't turned up as well, but there's always next year. Was a great turnout of over 500 cars and the weather gods were good enough to put on a nice sunny day. The sunscreen was well used and the odd Ice cream went down well. After the show we sat outside our motel having a drink watching the cars drive by and catching up with different people we have met over the few years of going. Another great event organised by the Christchurch Falcon Car Club. Looking forward to next years event. Stephen & Karen Rouse

12 Cromwell Car Show January 2018 Another great event organised by the Southland Falcon Club. Beautiful warm day (well almost too hot) We were all using rain umbrella's for shade!! Over 650 car's were on display, all make's and models in any condition. Along with a handful of bikes, awesome to see. Later in the day we all headed to Clyde along with some of the Christchurch Zephyr boys for a nice cold ale and catch up. After a bit of a cruise we called back into Clyde for something to eat. Next morning after a good night's sleep for some of us with air-con in our motel!! we headed out to buy some fresh local fruit. While buying said fruit Kevin's Tigers in the back of his station wagon were very well photographed. Then off to Omarama for lunch on our way home. It was a great weekend away.
