3 3 Congratulations to our swimmers Paige, Marissa, Matilda and Zane who competed at the MSW 5-8yr Development Meet at McCredie Park on the 24/2/2018. You all did an amazing job. Special shoutout to our Captain Josh Auld and Vice Captain Teone Fava who attended the meet to support and mentor our young swimmers. Josh and Teone also volunteered to stay after the meet to assist with the MSW Speedo Sprint Finalist training session. Well done to all. by Christina Fava Information is now available for the 2018 Metro South West Development Squads. The ten (10) page document is available on the clubhouse window, on the club website and Team App under Newsletters. Information includes Selection Process, Criteria etc. The clubhouse is now reserved on club nights and carnival days for VOLUNTEERS AND OFFICIALS ONLY. Children are not permitted to be in the clubhouse unless they are a registered volunteer or with the permission of the Club President. This is an initiative so that club business can be conducted in the area. Congratulations to Joshua Baker and Kerri Tiems who have been invited attend the MSW Awards Dinner to receive an award. The dinner is to be held on Saturday 19th May 2018 at St John s Park Bowling Club and is open to guests to attend. Tickets, which include a 3 course meal, must be purchased by 30th April 2018 by contacting Nadia Delessert. Prices: Adults - $55.00, Children - $30.00 and Technical Officials - $ Award recipients are free.

4 4 Perpetual Trophy Events have been a tradition at Ripples St Marys Swimming Club for many years and are held on the last club night of the Summer Season. All Perpetual Trophy Events are Handicap Events. In these events, all swimmers start at different times, depending on their best time recorded for the season. They are particularly exciting to watch, as the swimmer with the slowest entry time starts first and the swimmer with the fastest entry time starts last and has to chase the swimmers in front of them to touch the finish wall first without breaking their handicap e.g. if the entry time for a swimmer in a 50m event is seconds, they will be declared the winner if they finish the race first and their finish time is slower than seconds(36.04 less 2 secs break time). Break times below (as per page 11 of the 2017/2018 Summer Book) : For 25m and 50m events a break time of 2 seconds applies For 100m events a break time of 4 seconds applies. The Referee can disqualify a swimmer for breaking their handicap. Handicap Racing information In Handicap swimming, the swimmers are "equalized" by commencing their start at different time intervals based on entry times submitted for a determined style and distance. It would be anticipated that if each swimmer swam to his submitted time (or swam to his "handicap") all swimmers in that race would arrive at the finishing line at the same time. In practice, the SLOWEST swimmer (also called the Limit Swimmer), based on his submitted time (or handicap), starts FIRST at the command "GO". The other swimmers leave the starting platform when their STARTING NUMBER is called, until the last swimmer (also called the Scratch Swimmer), who has the FASTEST submitted time (or handicap), has his starting number called and he commences the race. The actual STARTING NUMBER for each swimmer is calculated as the difference between the slowest (limit) swimmer's handicap (or submitted time) and the handicap times (or submitted times) of each of the other swimmers in that particular heat. For clarification let us consider the following example for a 50 metre event: Lane No Name Handicap (Submitted Time) Starting Number 1 A. Green 0: (Limit Swimmer) "Go" (Slowest Time) STARTS ON THE GO SIGNAL 2 B. Blue 0: STARTS ON THE 1 COUNT 3 C. Charley 0: COUNT During Perpetual Events, parents and spectators must NOT pace or coach swimmers during the event. Examples include pacing alongside the pool and/or calling out instructions to swimmers in the water during the event. Any behaviour which advantages/disadvantages swimmers may be deemed to be pacemaking which is a disqualifiable swim rule infraction.

For current financial members, your membership registration fees are NOT due until 1st October 2018 so you will only need to pay the 2018 Winter Club Night fee of * $ WINTER FEES: Junior Dolphins aged 7 years and under - *FREE Existing Club Members (aged 8yrs/over): * $50.00 (winter club nights) NEW Members (aged 8yrs/over): * $ (includes registration and winter club nights). * Championships fees and Ripples Leisure Centre entry fees are additional. 6 6 Below are the positions which will be declared vacant at the AGM on WEDNESDAY 2nd May 2018 and will be open for nomination. Nominees must be 18yrs/over for all positions except the Social Committee where members only need to be 16 yrs old. A brief role description is published as a guide to the duties associated with the position, but is not limited to those published. Office Bearers : * President - acts as Chairman at each General Meeting and Management Meeting of the Club * Vice President - acts as Chairman at each General Meeting and Management Meeting if the President is absent. Also Chairman for the Fundraising Committee. * Correspondence Secretary - responsible for the records of the club. Club correspondence, both in and out is collected, recorded and actioned by the Correspondence Secretary. * Treasurer - responsible for keeping the financial records of the Club in order. Does banking of funds and also organizes outgoing payments. * Race Secretary - Co ordinator of the Race Committee which organises club nights, host carnivals, club championships and trophies for presentation nights, entries for championship meets etc. The Race Secretary also compiles Championship results and chairs Race Committee meetings. Other committee members : * Minutes Secretary - responsible for recording minutes at club meetings and distributes accordingly * Publicity Officer - publishes news in club newsletter, promotes the club via media, brochures, posters etc * Webmaster - maintains the club website. * Apparel Officer - organizes sales/stock of club apparel * Social Secretary - co ordinates the Social Committee which organizes social and fundraising activities for the club. * Assistant Race Secretary - assists the Race Secretary when necessary. Member of Race Committee. Delegates to the District Association (2) - represents the club at District Association activities and meetings Delegate to Swimming NSW - represents the club at Swimming NSW activities and meetings Ripples Leisure Centre Representative - liaison between Ripples Leisure Centre and the club. * Management Committee members (3) - attends General and Management Meetings of the club * Carnival Registrar - distributes information for upcoming carnivals. Accepts and submits entries to host clubs for all non championship meets. Membership Registrar - accepts new membership applications and holds club member records. * Member Protection Officer - performs duties as per the Member Protection Policy. * members of the Management Committee Sub Committees : Race Committee - consists of Race Secretary, Assistant Race Secretary, Carnival Registrar and up to 4 other members. This committee organizes and runs club nights and championships, hosts carnivals and helps organize end of season Presentation Nights. Social Committee - consists of the Social Secretary and up to ( 5 ) others. The Social Committee organizes social and fundraising activities for the club, including catering for carnivals. The Vice President is the chairman for social committee meetings.

7 7 Swimmers are reminded of the expectations whilst in Marshalling; that co operation and quietly listening to instructions is essential for club night to run efficiently. Some tips : be on time for your event wait QUIETLY so that everyone can hear instructions SIT in your allocated heat and lane when marshalled Cooperate with and follow the instructions of the Marshall and Check Starter Swimmers who are late for their event without good cause or swimmers who are not giving their full cooperation will be referred to the Referee and may not be allowed to swim their event. If anyone has a Working With Children Check Number that they have not yet provided to the club, please provide these details to the Club Secretary Nadia Delessert for entry into the club s Working With Children Check Register. Name, WWCC Number and date of birth are required. Please see Nadia Delessert. The club newsletter is available on Team App and the club website. If you would like all the club news delivered to your phone/mobile device, please download Team App and turn on push notifications. Running is NOT PERMITTED around the pool as it can lead to injury to either yourself, others or both. Please WALK and KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. Spectator $3.00 Child Swim $5.00 * Child Swim Pass $45.00 (10 visits = $4.50 per visit The Child Swim Pass may be shared between family members or friends. Parents attending club night are required to pay the Ripples Leisure Centre spectator fee. Ripples Leisure Centre Squad members who possess a CURRENT Monthly Squad Pass are entitled to FREE ENTRY Ripples Leisure Centre reserves the right to change entry prices at any time. Please note that entry fees into Ripples Leisure Centre are payable on club nights. The fee structure is shown on the left. Spectators and children are required to pay the required fees upon entry. The exception is Ripples Leisure Centre Squad members who possess a current monthly squad pass who are entitled to free entry. 12th March 2018 Times achieved on the above date are LONG COURSE official times and can be used as qualifying / entry times for meets. 8 8 Ripples St Marys Swimming Club places a high priority on communicating to our members and the greater community. In addition to our club website and facebook page, the club has added Team App to our communications technology. Team App is a customised smartphone app which is available for download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play for access on mobile devices such as iphones, ipads and android devices as well as being accessible from the Team App website. Please follow the instructions on the left to download the App and register to have access to the member only content. The App can also be accessed via the internet: The club newsletter as well as other important news and announcements will now be available on the club website and Team App. Team App members who have their push notifications enabled will receive the newsletter and other notices direct to their mobile device. Please continue to view our website and facebook pages regularly as new content is uploaded regularly. Entering Carnival Meets? If entering a carnival meet via the online system, please inform the Race Secretary of your entries so that results can be obtained from the host club / organisation. This will be especially important that your personal best swim times are recorded on the club database when selections for relay teams are being considered. Over the top Starts may be implemented at the Referee s discretion on club nights to speed up proceedings on any events of distances of 100m or over. After completing a Freestyle, Butterfly or Breaststroke event, the competitor stays in the water against the wall until after the start of the next race. For Backstroke, competitors will position themselves on the lane rope two meters from the wall. When the following competitor dives over the top of the previous swimmer, he may leave the water.

SIGN THE VOLUNTEER REGISTER TO RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION Volunteers, please sign the Volunteer Register to record your volunteer participation and collect equipment by 5.50pm for a 5.55pm time check at the starting end of the pool. Tonight and every club night is dependent on the assistance of each family. Swimmers in the first event of the night, please be present in the Marshalling Area at 5.55pm to be placed in to your heats and lanes. Please BE QUIET in the Marshalling Area and LISTEN to the Marshal s and Check Starter s instructions. CHILD SUPERVISION CLUB NIGHTS / CARNIVALS Swimmers under the age of sixteen years must have adequate supervision (by a person aged sixteen years or older) in attendance for the duration of club nights or carnivals. Any swimmers being identified in attendance at either a carnival or on club night without adequate supervision, will not be allowed to compete until his or her parent carer arrives to assume the supervisory responsibility for that swimmer.
